Cricket Leagues - Feedback and Suggestions

I guess the ghost of unorganized & unprofessional leagues have returned to haunt PC. There are many leagues like that, would not like to name them, but they are really armature to be honest. Something should be done to improve those leagues.

It's a tricky matter. In a perfect world, everyone would read the cricket rules thread then join a league to get a sense of what is involved. Then when it comes time for them to start a league, they sit down and really give it some thought and planning, and then work on a nice way to present matches etc. But we don't live in a perfect world.

If anything I think we need to be more strict with regards to finishing one season of a league before starting another. I know I've let a few people slide.

Why not make a rule that a person should take part in at least 3/4 leagues before starting their own league.

Tbh, that shouldn't be the case. Take an example of when the leagues initiated. Biggy started APL, did he have any experience? No. He improved as it progressed. We need to help people who are trying to start new leagues. And, not just dictate terms. Some grasp quickly while some need time. This is not a big deal tbh.

This is a good idea.

It's something that I've tired to control in the past, but it's pretty hard to do so. If someone new joins and starts a very average league straight away it's reasonably easy to tell them to participate in a few leagues first, but the main problem comes about from what Iridium said.

Someone who's participated in only a couple of leagues starts a league that might have some potential, but when it struggles to get going maybe midway through the first season, they give up on it and start a new league, and then that cycle has the potential to continue. Often when you want to break them out of that cycle, you'll come online after 24 or so hours, and they've already started another league again which has already been going for a couple of pages, which is when it's hard to shut down a league since other members have already got involved in it.

A lot of the league members from the past whom would've had higher standards have now left, like Biggy, Chewie, Hedger, etc., and even though probably ever since after original APL this place has had an English second language majority, it seems to be at it's highest now. I've seen the likes of Dipak, Haarithan etc. improve their leagues greatly over time, but now the likes of them and others are becoming less active, so we're left with a new generation of members who hopefully over time will improve.

Interestingly, this issue is the whole reason that I started the Elite League. I plan to run the first season, then find a another member to hand an established league over to, rather than them starting a new, and often substandard, league.

I believe that is exactly what happened with the ZPL a while ago.

That's all very well but whether they can carry on the same high quality that you put forth is a different story.

Hello all. Just an idea for anyone who wants to start a league.

Rather than starting a lame, recycled league along the lines of the GPL, WPL, LMS and many others, try this.

World Test Championship

Group A (The Oval)
Australia v Netherlands
England v Netherlands
England v Australia

Group B (Trent Bridge)
Pakistan v Zimbabwe
India v Pakistan
India v Zimbabwe

Group C (Edgbaston)
New Zealand v South Africa
Bangladesh v South Africa
Bangladesh v New Zealand

Group D (Headingley)
Ireland v Sri Lanka
Ireland v West Indies
Sri Lanka v West Indies

Playoffs (Lord's)
Semi Final 1 (A v D)
Semi Final 2 (B v C)
Grand Final

---

Points System (Group Stage only)

Result
Win Outright --- 15 points
Tie --- 8 points
Winning Draw --- 6 points (on first innings)
Losing Draw --- 4 points (on first innings)
Loss Outright --- 0 points

Bonus
| Batting | Bowling
1 pt | 200 | 2 wickets
2 pts | 250 | 4 wickets
3 pts | 300 | 6 wickets
4 pts | 350 | 8 wickets
5 pts | 400 | 10 wickets

First 120 overs
^^^^^
There you go. It'd be great if someone could do the difficult part now.
