Cricketing Queries

Murali was called for chucking by one of the umpires and Arjuna obviously didn't like it so he took all of his players off the field.

Just came to know that Arjuna Ranatunga did some overaction against the umpires in Adelaide ODI against England, can anyone say me what actually happened?

As khalek said one of the umpires, the square leg umpire it actually was that called him and Ranatunga didn't like it and he took his guys of the field. One of the main reasons I like Ranatunga.
Just youtube it, its on there.

Can someone tell me the difference between Pull and Hook shot ?

A hook goes behind square on the leg side; towards fine leg.
A pull doesn't.

Should Zimbabwe be given their Test status back? Would they not be better than Bangladesh?

I personally would prefer Zimbabwe and I think tat they would beat Bangladesh in a few years time when they have re settled into test cricket fully.

Just to add a little more, the hook is usually a shot played when the ball is at head height or even above and that's why it goes finer - it's harder to control. Often a batsman steps inside the line of the ball to play the hook so he's basically helping the ball on it's way, while getting his head out of the way as well :p

Pull shots are played with the player in line with the ball and the ball is lower, between waist and shoulder height.

Idk man, Bangladesh has been good off late. 141/1 against a fairly strong English bowling lineup currently!

And then what happened :p. But, a query, how many times has 10 wickets been taken in a session?

Can someone tell me in detail how the rating points for teams are calculated ?

Overthrows:

Say a run is attempted, but the batsman is sent back, and the fielder throws, and misses the stumps - ball runs to the boundary.

Obviously 4 runs

But now, if in the same scenario, batsman is sent back, fielder throws, and the batsmen can cross over to the other end before the ball hits the boundary, is that 5 runs?

What is the 'official' ruling on what is classified as 5 runs and what is 4 runs.

I believe it will only count as 5 if the run is completed before the overthrow occurs. The official laws of cricket state:

6. Overthrow or wilful act of fielder
If the boundary results either from an overthrow or from the wilful act of a fielder the runs scored shall be
(i) the penalty for a No ball or a Wide, if applicable, together with any penalties under either of Laws 18.5(b) (Deliberate short runs) or 42 (Fair and unfair play) that are applicable before the boundary is scored
and (ii) the allowance for the boundary
and (iii) the runs completed by the batsmen, together with the run in progress if they have crossed at the instant of the throw or act.

So I was wrong. if they have crossed at the act of the throw, then the run will count.

When a ball is lost and a replacement ball is brought in, where are those balls from? How do they get a X overs old ball? Is it from a previous match? or are they worn down using some technique to simulate an older ball?

I asked Steven on cricinfo this many times but the prick never responds.
