Cricket's Greatest Moments

Edgbaston is clearly my favorite. Sitting there at night thinking Australia were probably gonna get bowled out 100 runs short of the target but the determination of the lower order was amazing.

But they are all middle order bastmen...Langer is a great opener...his average opening is around 50...that is great in anyones language...and probably apart from the guy he opened with (Hayden) he is probably the most consistant opener in test cricket

Langer was one of the best openers this game has seen, and with Hayden it was a force to be reckond with.
I don't know why he didn't play many ODI's. He seemed agressive enough for the game and when Hayden was out i think he may have been a better option than Katich.
Oh and Tendulkar is an ODI opener btw.

I would definitely call Langer-Hayden opening partnership one of the greatest in test cricket, but does that necessarily make Langer one of the best ever? I'm not so sure about that.

Off the top of my head i can't really think of any REALLY FANTASTIC test openers. The closest ones that come to mind are Langer, Hayden, Gayle, and Sehwag-to a limit. (i'm no fan, although he's not bad in tests). I'm not going to go as far back as behind my time...

Gavaskar and hobbs were fantastic test openers. as for partnerships greenidge/haynes and hobbs/sutcliffe

I genuinely think that Trescothick was a world class opener before his stress and he probably still will be if and when he returns. He could tear any attack to pieces on his day and he was on form more times than he was out of it.

Then no wonder you think Langer was great :p Allow me to name a few really good ones from the past that were better than Langer.

Gavaskar, Greenidge, Sutcliffe, Hobbs, Haynes, Anwar, Morris, Hanif. I'm sure I am forgetting some other obvious ones. :)

Oh yeah, forgot about Trescothick. Where is he by the way? I know he left before the ashes but he hasn't come back since..
Strauss in my opinion isn't that great to go as far as making him a captain in Vaughn's absence.

I'm sorry. I'm only 14 :p

very true and he had a great partnership with strauss which for a while guaranteed England at least 50 runs to start with

Well I wasn't exactly alive either when Hobbs played :p Read up on some of these players, you won't be bored.

Anyway, as much as I like this chat of sorts, we should probably be getting back on topic.

I'm sorry but Trescothick doesn't even come close to the dizzy heights of Hobbs, Gavaskar, Greenidge, etc. He's good, but he's not that good, or should I say was.

It also helps when you watch ESPN's Legends of Cricket. :p
Not when you live in the US, all we get here is boring American Football :crying :(

Alright, another moment was of course the winning runs scored by Zak in the Natwest series. It was 11:30 in the night in India, it was pin-drop silent and i was in the game, wearing my Indian jersey all tensed and sweaty :p Flintoff came into bowl that over, Zak just nudges it and we run two. Literally the whole neighborhood jumped with joy, it was soo loud! It was awesome. Best cricketing moment EVER for me.

I don't think Trescothick is a great opener, he was a good one. I believe Mike Artherton was way ahead of trescothick, from England.
