C.O. Player #3
Victor Matfield

Role: :ar: (RHB, RMF)
Former captain of the Springbok rugby team Victor Matfield grew up with a love for both rugby and cricket, and even represented Far North Schools in the latter.

Matfield has also appeared in a couple of friendly cricket matches against the Proteas, one in which he scored a fiery 62 off 36 balls against the likes of Dale Steyn, Kagiso Rabada and Wayne Parnell.

C.O. Player #5
Jered Weaver

JeredWeaver_zpsu0ckl1f5.jpg

Role: :bwl: (RHB, RFM)
The Los Angeles Angels' 20-game winner Jered Weaver possesses a sidearm delivery that would make him a dominant wicket taker. His motion is similar to the round-arm bowling school to which Sri Lankan great Lasith Malinga adheres. They both look like they are slinging the ball.

Weaver would bowl a yorker or full toss with a style and motion unorthodox.

Usain Bolt

Role: :ar: (RHB, RFM)
Sprint star Usain Bolt had spoken of his desire to play in the Big Bash League a few years ago.

Bolt, who describes himself as an all-rounder, has appeared in charity cricket matches and famously clean bowled then West Indies captain Chris Gayle in 2009. Bolt also showcased his batting talent when he blasted his way to a 19-ball 45 against Yuvraj-led side in seven-a-side cricket match.

C.O. Player #8
Yohan Blake

Role: :bwl: (RHB, RFM)
Yohan Blake, the second-fastest 100m runner in history, had made no secret of the fact that cricket is his first love. The Jamaican sprinter grew up with the ambition of making it as a fast bowler and only switched to athletics after a school teacher noticed the extraordinary speed of his run-up.

Blake also professed his desire to play the game professionally when he retires from athletics.

C.O. Player #9
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

AlexOxladeChamberlain_zpswtst2tws.jpg

Role: :arwk: (RHB, RFM)
Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could have been a cricket star if he hadn’t chosen football. He was an opening batsman who would keep the wickets for 20 overs and then bowl 5-6 overs. That’s all-rounder in the purest essence of the word.

A former district cricketer for South East Hampshire, the Englishman ultimately chose football, but didn’t let go of the opportunity to play the sport once again when he, Theo Walcott and Gabriel Paulista lined up against Essex County Club a few months ago. And by the looks of it, he seems to have been a decent player.

C.O. Player #10
Phil Neville

PhilNeville_zpsi3cytpsd.jpg

Role: :bat: (LHB, DNB)
Six-time Premier League winner Phil Neville probably had bigger chance of making it big as a cricketer, than his elder brother. When he was 15, he was good enough to play for the Lancashire second XI, and he also captained the England U15 side. Among the ones he captained was a certain Andrew Flintoff. He remains the youngest player ever to play for the Lancashire second team.

It is said that he was a much more talented at cricket than he was at football. While he loved cricket, he thought that his dedication towards football was more and hence opted to play it. But that never deterred his love for the gentlemen’s game.

C.O. Player #11
Rafael Nadal

RafaelNadal_zpsrarh2rkv.jpg

Role: :bat: (LHB, DNB)
The 14-time Grand Slam singles winner Rafael Nadal possesses freakishly strong wrists and forearms. The success he's had on clay, grass and hard courts to complete a career Grand Slam means Nadal would be a man for all batting surfaces in cricket too. When his knees are holding up, he'd also be a devastatingly quick runner between the wickets.

C.O. Player #12
Ilya Kovalchuk

IlyaKovalchuk_zpstc3qxdwy.jpg

Role: :bat: (RHB, DNB)
The New Jersey Devils sharpshooter Ilya Kovalchuk is typically stationed at the point on power plays to take full advantage of a devastating slap shot. Kovalchuk's windup, weight transfer and torque are ideal for generating tremendous force behind the puck.

Given a cricket bat to toy with, he would send close-in fielders scurrying to the boundary by peppering the cover region with drive after drive.

C.O. Player #13
Israel Dagg

Role: Bowling-:ar: (RHB, RFM)
All Blacks' fullback and a former Central Districts Under-17 cricket representative Israel Dagg clocked at a Shane Bond-esque 143kmh at the age of 16.

A conversation with the former Australian speedster Brett Lee had Dagg convinced him he would chase an international cricket career. Then, in a decision that will haunt New Zealand Cricket but bring sighs of relief from opening batsmen, rugby came calling.
