Current World XI. Come one! Come all!

If we are talking glovework strictly, Haddin is second to Read only - and he barely plays. Haddin is excellent behind the stumps and is the best domestic player in Australia at the moment by far.

WOW isn't that a good batting line up :p. Only 1 person who can't bat.

Firstly, I believe McCullum is under-rated with the gloves. I believe he's easily one of the best in the world. He kinda goes unnoticed a lot. I do admit, he doesn't have to cope with someone who spins the ball miles, but he rarely seems to miss chances. He is also lively.

I'm not sure we have seen enough of Haddin and Read at International level to know whether they are capable of a World XI. it's hard to go passed Sangakara in my opinion. He is very good with the gloves and a great batsman, a good balance.

In relation to the second comment, I would even argue that Bond is better skilled then a number 11. He has a first class hundred. he only problem is he seems to be troubled by spin. He has good lasting technique against pace though.

it's kinda hard to pick a test eleven, but i'll try.

Hayden
Smith
Ponting (c)
Kallis
Yousuf
Sangakkara (wk)
Hussey
Oram
Clark
Bond
Murili

: Pietersen, Jaywardene, Vettori, and Lee would be backup. I feel guilty leaving out Pietersen, but it's hard to fit him in. Oram edged out Flintoff based on the fact that firstly, Flintoff seems to be injured, secondly Oram had a good showing with the ball against SA-A.

Agreed. To say Chris Read is a better gloveman than McCullum is laughable tbh

Well, it's just hard to tell. He doesn't exactly make the England side.

I'll just add that leaving Kallis out of a World Test side is a sin. He's easily one of he best players in the world. His form has been excellent. Such a hard job picking an eleven. I have a headache.

ODI XI

Matthew Hayden
Adam Gilchrist
Ricky Ponting
AB de Villiers
Jacques Kallis
Andrew Symonds
Shahid Afridi
Chaminda Vaas
Shane Bond
Muttiah Muralidaran
Lasith Malinga

Ok, you want me to explain Gilchrist. I think the second opener's spot was a toughie and so was the keeper's spot, so I guess you might see it as being lazy; I choose to think it is efficient. :p As a batsman, Gilly has been quick and his WC final score was a beauty, quite easily one of the best of the year and apart from Hayden, not really anyone has scored more than 1 century from the top of the order; in this respect it was harsh to overlook Gibbs, but frankly, it would have been far more harsh to overlook the players in the middle order, so this is the lesser evil, in my opinion. I've glossed over actual wicket keeping, but Gilly beats the others out on sheer dismissals, plus I think he's kept as good as he ever has with the range of things he always has to keep to, from slinging 160 kph thunder and standing up to fast-medium pace, down to tricky wronguns and ripping leg breaks.

Anyway, moving on. Ponting, Kallis, Hayden and Symonds are the five most dominant batsmen right now. Firstly, Kallis hasn't been as slow as he is perceived, about average and in any case I think for any game he has lost by lack of aggression, he has surely saved several low scoring games from certain doom.

AB de Villiers is my 'specialist fielder'. He's actually averaged 50 in his last 12 months and has added 3 centuries to his name, but there are a lot of guys making runs, even fast runs like de Villiers does. The centuries really help, but he is a hare in the field and I felt it was worth picking someone for adding something extra, especially with all the potential choices that aren't very good fielders at all.

Down the order and of course no bowler would want to have Symonds and Shahid Afridi joining forces late in the game. Afridi's batting average has been passable and is also something of a star support bowler. Symonds' batting is at its peak, both destructive and hard to stop; it's hard to believe he had to get a biceps tendon reattached a month before the World Cup.

Bowlers, again with the troubles. Murali is prolific as always and Shane Bond looking quite firm for the first time in a while. McGrath left on a high and might still be on top of the wickets table, but we'll exclude him to be fair to anyone playing more than 4 months this year. Vaas and Malinga have been in top form for Sri Lanka and a key component of the World Cup. However, many times I considered picking Flintoff and Tait for the sheer fierceness they present. Consistency and fitness won out, to Vaas and Malinga's fortune.

Besides, four wickets in four balls? What magic be this?

Here is a place where you can create your world xi teams. Feel free to create a world xi test or ODI, or both!

One rule, the players have to be playing today - and international level!

By the way: I'm sort of picking this on form and how well I believe they are performing etc.. Hence the exclusion of Tendulkar. If I was doing a more general one, I'd certainly include the little master. Same goes for the inclusion of Brad Haddin.

Erm, Tendulkar hit over a thousand runs at an average excess of 47 (in ODIs) in 2007. If thats bad form for you, then yes, he should not be in your list .

My list for ODIs

Sachin Tendulkar-Look above.

Matthew Hayden-One of the most dominant batsman in the last 12 months, but seems to be losing his sheen slightly. Still a great force. Also included for the left-right combo.

Ricky Ponting*- Great captain and fantastic run scorer.

Yuvraj Singh- One of the best batsman in World Cricket for the past two years. Great hitter, brilliant fielder, automatic inclusion to the XI.

Andrew Symonds- has averaged in excess of 60 since the 03 WC. Fantastic in the field, and can bowl.

Jacques Kallis- Awesome form with the bat, can bowl a bit too. Can switch spots with Symonds any time.

MS Dhoni (wk)- I know I may be biased by picking the Indian keeper to fill the role in the World XI, but I tried to not be. Gilchrist just hasn't been on the ball with the bat lately and same with Kumar. Dhoni, on the other hand, has been batting consistently at a high strike rate and average for a few years now. He is not the best with the gloves, but his batting edges it out.

Brett Lee- Needed a rip-roaring fast bowler and Lee was the best option. Good in the field, too.

Shane Bond- A fast bowler who is the best bowler in the world when he is fully fit. Great to watch.

Murali- Murali is Murali.

Shaun Pollock- Needed a bowler who gets it in the right channels and Pollock was the best option. Not in the best form, but is a legend. *switch spots with Bond*.

Tests
Hayden
Vaughan (c)- now he's not played much cricket for a while but when he came back he played very well and is a brilliant captain, his record speaks for itself considering he's not had the best players in the world.
Ponting
Pietersen
Hussey
Sangakarra (wk)
Kallis
Flintoff -If fit he can get in on bowling alone
Clark
Bond
Murali

Tendulkar, Dhoni, Smith, Ntini and Yousuf all come pretty close too.

ODI's
Hayden
Gayle- Smith comes close but Gayles more destructive and less of a knob. Plus he can bowl and according to the ICC he's the 2nd best all rounder in ODI's :p
Ponting (c)
Pietersen
Symonds
Dhoni (wk)
Afridi
Flintoff
Pollock
Bond
Murali

than how come so many people including you have Flintof in their teams but he hast done anything in a long time.

Test:
Smith
Hayden
Ponting *
Yousuf
Chanderpaul
Kallis
Sangakkara+
Ntini
Asif 2
Bond 1
Murli

Jayawardene, Panesar, Z.Khan, Kumble miss by a litle, cant take out Murli.

ODIs:

Dhoni +
Hayden
Chanderpaul
Symonds
Yousuf
Ponting *
Pietersen
Fernando
Maharoof
Murli
Bond

De Villiers, Yavraj, Afridi, Vaas, Pollock again could have a place in the 11.

these i gues are my ODI and Test 11, Chanderpual has had a incredible year in both forms of the game. i gues i couldnt do any better with the batting order in ODIs with so many players doing good this year i didnt kno who to put where lol.

people where is Chanderpual he is having the best year of his career and was great against England, average like 140+ in tests and 67 in ODIs.

Hayden
Smith
Ponting*
Yousuf
Dravid
Kallis
Sangakkarra+
Ntini
Asif
Muralitharan
Clark

Bit heavy on the batting, but Kallis will make a formidable 5th bowler option. Would've opted for Akhtar over either Asif or Ntini if it weren't for his poor fitness levels.

Tests:

Hayden
Smith
Ponting*
Pietersen
Yousuf
Dhoni+
Flintoff
Lee
Bond
Asif
Muralitharan

ODI:

Hayden
Tendulkar
Ponting*
Bell
Yousuf
Yuvraj
Dhoni+
Vaas
Lee
Vettori
Akhtar

A lot of you may say "why Bell?" but if you look at his ODI form over the past year, other than Yousuf, I bet you will be hard pushed to find a more consistent performer, he has come on leaps and bounds.

Test-
Cook- A constant performer and one of the best test batsmen in my opinion
Kalis- Great Batsmen
Ponting(C)- No words to describe
Pietersen- He has a few bad patches but when hes in form hes destructive
S. Chanderpaul- A batsmen who will score runs all the time because hes doesnt get out
Gilchrist(WK)- Good batsmen and great WK
Flintoff- Drunk or no drunk still a quality player
Murali- As much as i disagree with his bowling action he does get wickets
Hoggard- If where doing it on form he was still in form before he got injured
Malinga- Same with Murali but he gets wickets
Broad
