Darts Thread

What I want to know is, why hasn't Taylor been knighted? He's easily the greatest darts player ever, and probably the most successful Englishman across any sport. Darts may not be a recognised sport among a percentage of the population, but there's no doubting the skill it takes to be a pro, especially to win 13 World Titles like Taylor has.
He was in line for an honour a few years ago but it was taken away at the last moment because many years ago he assaulted a woman.

Barney's checking out has been woeful. You can't afford to miss chances against Taylor. But if Phil turns up you'll need to play perfectly just to keep up. I'd say only Barney is capable of matching Taylor when he's on top form. When Peter got to the final against Taylor in 2005 he didn't stand a chance, Taylor turned up and played like a god and Peter just couldn't match him. I don't want to see another Taylor 7-0 final win, I wanna see Barney come back in the 3rd set and really go at him.

Phil Taylor is immense. No-one could have stopped Taylor on this form, an average of 109.75 is phenomenal. Barney didn't play badly either, an average of 102/103 is no mean feat. 7-1 to Taylor, well deserved 14th World Title. Queeny, give this man a knighthood.

It's Manley's year next year though ;)

Get in there!

What a win for Phil :)

Sid Wadell, what a Legend!!

Theres only one Phil Taylor!

van Barneveld would have thrashed anyone else playing like that with that average. Not Taylor though. Probably his best Championship win too.

I love the annpuncer calling out the scores. It's as if he wants to shout out '180!' every time but then corrects himself.

No, I only watched the highlights of the Taylor-Barney final. Not a darts fan.

Another great night of Darts tonight. Peter pulled off a really good comeback to take out Andy Jenkins, who shouldn't have even have been in the tournament. He punched Terry Jenkins in a tournament a little while back, and is yet to have been punished for it officially. I think they were going to ban him from the competition, but he appealed which delayed the ban. Acted like a dick on the stage as well, waving Pete off the stage after going 2-1 up, delighted to see Pete knock him out and win the last set 3-0.

Adrian Lewis was magnificent as well. Averaged over 120 in the 2nd set, was a brilliant show of attack on the trebles. He peppered the Treble 20 and looked a class act. Lewis's problem has always been his consistency throughout a competition though. He can pull of a performance like this one game, but then look horrible and lose his next one. He's so talented, and has the perfect throwing partner in The Power, and he's a real nice bloke. Hope he goes far in the sport. Hoping that Lewis-Klassen is the future Taylor-Barneveld battle.

Had to :laugh at the crowd in the 2nd set of the Manley-Jenkins match. Some bloke dressed as a x-mas tree pulled some woman dressed as Santa, which led to the whole crowd turning in her direction and shouting 'Easy, Easy, Easy'. Brilliant. Bet her parents'll be proud.

I was watching the 2008 prem, you guys certainly know how to get the atmosphere going. I was shocked to see the amount of crowd and the noise they were making for Darts.

The Darts crowds are magnificent. It's so loud inside those arenas, the noise on the evening of the World final I went to at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet was electric, was so good. Think it's a sport that doesn't get the credit it deserves, great entertainment and requires alot of skill and hard work to be one of the best in the world. Check Phil Taylor, works hard to achieve everything he has, have heard him say he practises 8 hours a day, ridiculous work ethic. Definitely a sportsman that doesn't get the respect he in my view has earned. Clearly deserved Sports Personality of The Year this year, achieved far more than Giggs.

Anyone watching the BDO World Championship? There have been some high quality darts so far since it started last Saturday.

Here's a particularly fine example of just how good the BDO is.
Taylor/Whitlock on the other hand was magnificent. One wonders how much longer the BDO can survive for?

I think that's a bit unfair Barmy as the BDO does have some really good players. Saying that I don't think there will ever be a worse leg of darts from someone at the Championships for a long time.

Look at how poor Mardle has been of late, that first night at the World Championship he was very bad and it could take a while for him to come back from that.

I believe the BDO will be around for a number of years to come yet with the likes of Adams, O'Shea, Hankey et al there is quality and with the likes of Scott Waites coming through over the past couple of years then there is great hope for the BDO.

The trouble is that most darts 'fans' don't know that the BDO exists as they only watch what is on Sky and follow Phil Taylor.
