A Brief History

In October 2008, Das took over a team as their new manager and named it Golden Warriors. At first the team didn’t have a name in the community. No one knew who Das was. No one knew about the players playing for the Golden Warriors. Das' first aim was to give promotion in the OD league. As because they were in the same league for quite a long time. Many managers took over previously and all failed. Now it was up to Das to bring back the lost glory. Das took over the team midst of the season 11 and gave victory in all the matches but failed to give promotion in OD as the previous manager lost some OD games and the same happened in FC as well.

Season 12 saw the team get demoted to a lower league due to expansion and for OD League it saw the team remain in the same. This was the season of change. We saw many changes occurring this season for example, selling players and buying better ones to replace them. Leaded from the front by Ramprakash, Golden Warriors won each and every game in their OD to get promotion and go to a new division after 4 seasons. They also got glory in the FC as they got a promotion in it as well. Season 12 saw the addition of a BT20 league in which Golden Warriors clinched the fourth place. The first cup for Das saw the team surviving 2 rounds only.

Season 13 was also a good season for Golden Warriors as they won all FC games which saw the team get another promotion. The OD wasn’t easy like the previous one. There were two teams stronger than Golden Warriors but they didn’t give up that easily. They tried their best and saw them finishing 3rd. BT20 saw them remain in the same division for one more season. The team was knocked out in the 1st round.

Season 14 was the most disappointing season for Golden Warriors. This season saw the team get promoted into a really tough FC division. They got off to a good start by winning their first game but from then onwards they lost each and every game which saw the team get demoted. OD performance got better than the last season. This season Golden Warriors finished 2nd after loosing the last match by 14 odd runs, a win in which could have seen the Golden Warriors play ‘play offs’ to get promotion. They had a good season in BT20. After remaining in the same league for 3 seasons , we saw the team get promotion in style by winning each and every game of the season. The team had another poor run in the cup as they got knocked out in Round 2.

Season 15 saw the team changing their name to Bengal United. This changes saw that they were going for a new beginning. The team started off well as they won their first OD against a strong team. They also won against the two opponents in each round and now are heading to round 3. They will be facing champs united in round 3 and are hoping for a brilliant win to seal their place in the 4th round as well. But Round 4 opponent wasn't easy. It was a strong opponent in Indian Vikings. Bengal United’s manager said before the match, “We will give our best in the match. We may loose the match but we will give a good fight.” Coming into the match with positive words like this, Vikings won the toss and elected to bowl first. Bengal United facing a strong bowling attack was able to survive it for 25 overs. Scored 90 overall out of which Myirha was the top scorer with a brilliant or we should say a well fought 39. With a elite top order, Vikings openers came into the middle chasing down a low total of 91. Terrell surprised everyone with the wicket of Vikings star batsman who went back to the pavilion for a 0. Bengal United from then onwards didn’t get anymore wickets as Vikings chased the total in 15 overs. Season 15 saw the team finishing 2nd in both FC and OD but saw the team getting demoted in BT20 after a poor season.

After season 15 ended, Season 16 saw a big change in the batting line up. Christian Akrivelli, then wicket keeper batsman for Bengal United was put up on market and was sold for a huge fee of 4.25m. The world soon saw the signing of the experienced wicket keeper batsman in Darren Mills. The 27yo was bought for a sum of 4.5m, the highest money paid to a player by Bengal United so far. The fans of Bengal United witnessed a huge achievement by the Bengal United this season getting promoted to Division III of OD after staying in same division for nearly 4 seasons. They got a promotion in BT20 as well and got back to Division V.

With several changes promised by Battrick and many being fulfilled saw Bengal United in a completely new OD league. But the start wasn't so good for Bengal United as they suffered their first defeat in the hands of a team weaker than them in their first OD game of this new season. With the loss, Das got frustrated and instantly put two of his bowlers on the market after their disappointing performance in the OD game. After the two bowlers were sold, fans saw the signing of two new bowlers in Greg Martin, a RH Off Spin bowler and Edwin Granville, a RFM bowler for 3.4m and 3.1m respectively . The team still has a feeble middle order and weak seam bowling which the management will soon be fixing by probably buying an AR. With new challenges lying ahead for Das, can he stay alive in Division III of OD or will Bengal United get demoted back to Div IV? Join us in our journey.

As Suren said its my real bt diary. BTW this week there are three BT20 games instead of one FC game and I don't usually take BT20 seriously and I throw them and I am doing the same this week also. Tomorrow is OD game so I will post Pre match and Post match summary of tomorrow's OD game!

Good start Funknath. There haven't been many hit BT stories on this forum probably you can change that. Good luck for the OD game.

Bengal United's newest member

Recently we saw Bengal United manager, Das being really active in the Transfer Market. With around ?4.9m in the bank, Das was in search of a new player to give depth to his middle order and strengthen his seam bowling also, as he wanted an AR but they were going for heaps and it wasn't possible for Das to buy one. As he already bought two bowlers few weeks back this time he bought a new batsman worth ?4m . The batsman hails from Auckland, New Zealand. His name is Mark Cavanagh who joined Bengal United on the 16th of September, 2010. With this buy, we see the middle order of Bengal United becoming stable. After the transfer occured we had an interview with both the player and his new owner. First we talked with Das. On asking him what are your thoughts, feelings about the new player. He replied, " I am pretty happy with the buy. I have seen him play for his previous club and he has impressed me a lot with his beautiful skills. I pretty much think he would be a good middle order bat and will add a lot towards depth which we were lacking at the beginning of the season." We then asked Cavanagh how he feels about his new home and he said," I feel pretty good to join Bengal United to be honest. Have seen the players coming out of the club and they have been pretty gun. One example is the young captain, Brian Myirha. Look at the skill the young lad has. Hoping to have a good time with the new manager and the players."

sumraXI vs Bengal United- 25 overs Update

Bengal United faced one of their toughest challenge in Division III in sumraXI. Bengal United coming into this game as a weak team, but they didn't give up hope and was ready to give sumraXI a tough challenge.

sumraXI won the toss and elected to bat. The pitch is looking a touch on the green side. All the seam bowlers have been out there rubbing their hands on this sunny day.

sumraXI have selected Budania, Gordon, Gerber, Alshaun, Wharrad, Gerhard, Tinkler, Mcshane, Chanderpaul, Bruce, Ayub.

Bengal United have picked Myirha, Maxim, Mills, Cavanagh, Allott, Kobus, Ashok, Granville, Terrell, Ghandi, Martin.

Bengal United Info- We see the addition of Cavanagh straight away to the line up. He will be adding a lot of depth to the middle order. With the addition of Cavanagh we see Allott being pushed down the order and we can see Allott playing his natural game more freely, that is being aggressive in the death overs of the game. We see no change in the bowling. Granville and Martin will be the bowler on whom Bengal United fans and management will be depending upon.
sumraXI's Innings

sumraXI was batting first and the batting was opened by Budania and Gordon and the bowling was opened by Granville and Terrell. Granville gave a good start to the Bengal United by conceding very few runs but this tight bowling from Granville was ruined by Terrell as he gave away 30 runs in the first 10 overs already, but Granville didn't disappoint the fans as he soon got the first wicket of the day in Gordon.

8.3 W Granville to Gordon
Gone! Nice variation in pace from Granville, got it through a little quicker with just a bit of away movement. Gordon tries to cut and succeeds only in getting a top edge through to Mills. Good bowling, great catch.

The next batsman was Gerber who came in and got off the mark straight away with a two. The next two overs didn't see any boundary and sumraXI was

End of Over 10: 45-1, runrate=4.50
Terrell 5-0-30-0
Budania* 22 (31 balls)
Gerber 8 (6 balls)
Last Wicket: Gordon c. Mills b. Granville 14 (FOW: 36/1)

Soon after we saw a bowling change by Myirha. He bought in the inexperienced Brijesh Ashok and the spin star Greg Martin into the attack. Both did well as they restricted them to few boundaries in the next couple of overs. But the players, member of the management and fans supporting the men in golden jersey were desperate for some more wickets. We saw the new batsman in Gerber dominating the next 10 overs as he got 34 runs of 36 balls with 3 boundaries. Budania soon joined the party also as we saw some of his shots going past the boundary ropes. With 20 overs bowled, the bowlers were in search of another wicket, hoping to get one soon.

End of Over 20: 106-1, runrate=5.30
Martin 5-0-25-0
Gerber* 42 (42 balls)
Budania 49 (55 balls)
Last Wicket: Gordon c. Mills b. Granville 14 (FOW: 36/1)

We saw a change in the bowling one more time. Terrell was bought back. And his partner bowler will be Nilay Ghandi. Ghandi started off the 21st over and this over saw Budania reach his 50
20.5 1 Ghandi to Budania
Managed to steer to deep backward point, Terrell running wide to field.
And that's his fifty! Well played.

Terrell bowled the next over and this time he didn't go for a single boundary, instead he restricted both the batsman to singles and doubles. The next over wasn't good for Ghandi as we saw the batsman launching big shots, taking advantage of a player weaker than themselves.

22.4 6 Ghandi to Budania
Tries the yorker but instead serves up a knee-high full toss which is dispatched over the rope on the off side. Dreadful bowling.

Both of them again smashed two boundaries in the following two overs with which they put sumraXI in a pretty comfortable position after the first 25 overs of the 1st Innings was bowled.

End of Over 25: 137-1, runrate=5.48
Ghandi 3-0-19-0
Gerber* 53 (52 balls)
Budania 69 (75 balls)
Last Wicket: Gordon c. Mills b. Granville 14 (FOW: 36/1)

Can the Bengal United comeback after this? Stay tuned to find out.

That completely makes no sense. If the writing is awful, then why is it great work. Normally the main factor in a story is the writing.

Anyway, great update Funknath. Good luck in your battrick career. I also do play battrick a little although my team isn't that great (mostly made up of players between proficient and wonderful)

sumraXI vs Bengal United-next 25 overs update

Terrell continued the bowling for Bengal United only giving away singles in the 26th over of the game. It was still Ghandi who was bowling from the other end. He was a little expensive in that over, as he gave away two 3s and a single, but both the 3s where stopped beautifully by the Bengal United fielders, both time it was the experienced Allott. Terrell did a pretty good job next over as he tried his level best to keep the over as tight as possible and was successful in doing so as he only gave a double in the first ball of the over. Ghandi continued the tradition as he also bowled a pretty good and tight over, little better than Terrell as he gave just a single, yes just a single. But soon this tradition was broken by none other than Gerber who swiftly punished Terrell for a four for his lazy delivery.

End of Over 30: 160-1, runrate=5.33
Terrell 10-0-57-0
Gerber* 65 (68 balls)
Budania 80 (89 balls)
Last Wicket: Gordon c. Mills b. Granville 14 (FOW: 36/1)

Myirha now gave the ball to the youngster, Brijesh Ashok. Ashok started the over beautifully by giving two back to back blockhole delivery making the batsman struggle a bit. The over saw two singles and a three in the last ball. At the other end it was spin. Yes, Martin was brought back into the attack. Pretty much bowled a good tight over giving away four runs which included three singles and a no-ball. Ashok whatsoever didn't have a great over as Gerber timed the ball perfectly for a well deserved four. With that four being smacked, we saw Martin being expensive also in the next over, giving away eight valuable runs to the opposition, including a wide and three. Ashok was again smashed for a four next over but this time it was Budania. He tried to spank that between the covers, but got a thick inside edge which went perilously close to his to his leg stump. It runs away to the fine leg boundary for four. Martin came back with a beautiful over of spin as he bowled the first maiden over of the day, yup that was the first maiden over!

35.1 . Martin to Budania
That's hit something and spun a long way. Budania has a prod at the pitch.

35.2 . Martin to Budania
Budania flicks that one firmly behind square, but is unable to beat Allott.

35.3 . Martin to Budania
No turn there and Budania leaves that for Mills to take behind the stumps.

35.4 . Martin to Budania
Played back down the pitch. Solid defence from Budania.

35.5 . Martin to Budania
A routine ball from Martin is treated with unwarranted respect by Budania. The result is still no run.

35.6 . Martin to Budania
A little turn, but Budania knocks it back to the bowler without looking in any trouble.

End of Over 36: 188-1, runrate=5.22
Martin 8-1-37-0
Gerber* 79 (82 balls)
Budania 92 (112 balls)
Last Wicket: Gordon c. Mills b. Granville 14 (FOW: 36/1)

But Ashok ruined that perfect over :laugh. He was smacked for a four next over by Budania again and not only that, he gave away five more runs in singles and doubles. Martin bowled another 'ok' over where he went for four runs. The next over saw very few singles given away by Ashok , and he did pretty well to finish his ten over quota. Martin bowled another beautiful maiden over to finish his bowling for that match.

End of Over 40: 205-1, runrate=5.13
Martin 10-2-41-0
Gerber* 92 (92 balls)
Budania 95 (126 balls)
Last Wicket: Gordon c. Mills b. Granville 14 (FOW: 36/1)

Granville was brought into attack, his second spell and started off with a huge wicket of dangerous looking Gerber,

40.2 W Granville to Gerber
Goes straight on and hits Gerber on the pad, a huge appeal is met with a raised finger from the umpire and Granville wheels away in celebration. Gerber, less amused, turns for the pavilion.

Ghandi didn't bowl a pretty good next over as he was smacked everywhere by Budania as he desperately wanted to reach his century which he successfully got in style,

41.4 4 Ghandi to Budania
Four runs. That went straight off the meat of the bat. An excellent cover drive by Budania.
And that's a century for Budania! Well played indeed Sir!

Granville bowled another good tight over, showing how good a bowler he is, and showing to the Bengal fans, this is how he is going to perform in every matches from then on. Ghandi next over was also good compared to his previous one. The next few overs were very tight and only few singles were given. 47th over of the 1st Innings saw the fall of another wicket. Granville strike for the 3rd time in the match, this time again getting the all important wicket of Budania.

46.6 W Granville to Budania
Budania needs a feather duster, not a bat. He tickled at that one and is comprehensively beaten. Next.

Next over saw two fours being smacked off Ghandi's bowling by Alshaun and Wharrad, the two new man in the crease. Granville was pretty expensive next match, as he gave 7 runs, the most expensive over he has bowled today. Ghandi bowled one of his best over of the match as he gave only three runs in the last over, keeping the batsman pretty much quite in the last over.

End of Over 50: 249-3, runrate=4.98
Ghandi 10-0-54-0
Alshaun* 25 (29 ball s)
Wharrad 9 (8 balls)
Last Wicket: Budania b. Granville 105 (FOW: 228/3)

The players are off the field for the break between innings.

you had a decent partnership with openers and when Budania and Gerber had exceptional innings. bowlers now need to strike in and get some wickets. worthwhile writing mate. :)
