Dec 16-20: 3rd Test - Australia v England at Perth

^Geez  He's going the Brad Hodge route, which means he's spot on - he'll never play for the Aussies again.

Nah. Hauritz will let AUS down all the time & will be just as useles any other spiner picked picked.

I wasn't saying he's been brilliant or will be brilliant. Merely saying Hauritz has let us down a lot less than any of the other 8 blokes that have played since Warne. You'll argue Krejza, but he failed in 50% of his Tests... But I think we've been here before :p

Oh and it seems like Warney's too busy shagging Liz Hurley to put his hand up for a game...

"Nathan, we think you're a good spinner but we want to give younger guys the chance."

Still, pretty spectacular story.

Lol good on ya Haurie, thought it was some joke but that is a way to make a statement. He should also start a petition to get the selectors sacked.

Yeah I'm feeling really sorry for Hauritz now, he must've really gotten on Pontings bad side. But why the heck has O'Keefe not been picked? Did Hilditch give a reason??

I bet Hauritz will regret selling all his Test cricket gear later in life. He may be bitter now but no point in getting rid of what could become cherished family heirlooms.

Wonder if he sold his baggy green, that would be the ultimate insult

Johnson's day of reckoning | Fox Sports

Well at least they won't be playing Siddle and Johnson together, that pair can be a nightmare (for us). And given we have no idea what Beer will be doing, having 3 potentially expensive bowlers leaves a lot on a injury prone Harris. Hilfy can at least keep it tight plus take the new ball.

Nothing Hauritz has finally realized his nothingness :thumbs. I feel sorry for the lad but he was never good enough for this level.

Predictions
Leading wicket-taker: Ryan Harris (should really swing it)
Leading batsman: Shane Watson
Leading fielder: Steve Smith
Man of the match: Shane Watson

Result: Australia by 10 wickets.

surely you're being sarcastic.

Hauritz is still the best spinner Australia have at the moment.

If thats the case, Australia should not play a spinner at all. A no good spinner equates easy runs.

But if they play 4 seamers that would be overkill, especially since Watson bowls seamers decently.

They are just going to have to keep trying till they find someone that works, but it might help not to pick complete hacks with FC averages in the 40s.

Or they should've used North as a all-rounder, he actually gave the ball some air and as a result got some turn and troubled the batsmen while Doherty did not. If I was to choose a lineup for the 3rd test it'll be

1. Phillip Hughes
2. Shane Watson
3. Ricky Ponting
4. Michael Clarke
5. Michael Hussey
6. Marcus North
7. Brad Haddin
8. Steven Smith
9. Ryan Harris
10. Peter Siddle
11. Ben Hilfenhaus

As far as I know Smith is a leg spinning bowling all-rounder so with North bowling offies and Smith with his leggies, this provides variation and more importantly the spinner actually spins the ball.

Smith and North in the same team, in theory, sounds good, but given North's recent form with the bat and Smith's experience, it's prone to failure.

I'd much rather have a spinner who can bat at 8. Be it Keefe, Doherty, North or Hauritz. Don't expect them to run through sides, don't use them as attacking bowlers, use them only to hold up one end or when conditions are favourable. Do what England did with Giles for those few years, or what South Africa are doing with Harris now. Or what (arguably) Vettori does for NZ.

Hauritz was tried as an attacking bowler and failed, was doing just fine when he had to contain. Doherty just lacks the consistency needed to even hold up an end. Don't know what happened to Casson, Krejza was never going to be suited to this role. North has actually done a very decent job at holding up one end.

If Australia aren't going to play a spinner at all, they'll need a 4th seamer who can bowl long spells and take the pace off the ball on slower tracks. Maybe bowl cutters if the pitch has some turn in it. A bowler like an Irfan Pathan or Collingwood, a medium pacer. McDonald could be up to that job. And he adds with the bat at number 8.

Oh, but the flaw with this plan is that Australia pace attack isn't taking wickets at the moment. Hilfenhaus is the sort who holds up an end, and apart from Siddle on the first day and Harris in patches, no bowler has looked threatening at all. So playing a bowler who isn't going to even try to take wickets will be counter productive.

Although you could argue that the pressure a good containing 4th bowler will build can help the other three get more wickets. But at the same time, if the other 3 aren't consistent then England's lineup could be happy just seeing off the one consistent bowler and helping themselves to runs from the others (kinda like what happens with NZ and Vettori...)

North and Smith in the same team seems like overkill. If anything give North the spinner spot and bring in another batsman (as North is not even a Test #6) and let North move way down the order. That way his runs are bonus and he will take more wickets than any other spinner.

Since Warne left Hauritz is the leading spin wicket taker for Australia followed by North! (and then Clarke)

I back Australia to win at the WACA. Ricky Ponting will definitely strike form and so shall Mitch. Will be a tough Test for England, this one.
