Review Demo impressions thread

OK, some more game play I started off thinking it was pretty average then moved to think it has some good potential to now having more questions than ever about the final product.

The AI just sucks at chasing targets, so I really hope there is some more realism to it, I can score 35-50 on Hard and then not even have England look like being in a chance to chase the target. They get around 19 and thats it. I have even lowered the totals to 30 and have them need 14-15 of the last over and not have a go. It totally baffles me as to why the AI is suppose to pace and have play differently as to the target but as usual this does not seem the case.

Im hoping this is just a bug, as its 3 overs each in a test so it doesnt see it as needing to chase down the revised target.

Also on that note, I would asume players play to their rating? Yet as usual again I can hit the ball just as well and score just as easily using a lower order batsman or bowler as I can with an opener. This is on hard level and really makes the stats and game play boring if it translates accross to the final game.

I have also found the use of front foot shot relatively useless as dancing down the pitch or using back foot shots to produce late cuts and hooks the best option to score runs. On hard I can hit a four or six with ease at least 2 ball an over by dancing down the wicket and picking the ball that can be smashed. Sometimes this may be 4-5 balls in an over and has just taken the need to play shots out of the equation.

Yea as it has been said like 10 times already the AI is not optimised for a 3 over game, so they dont know it is a 3 over game (more or less)

We have discussed the fact about dancing down the wicket. The AI does not do much about the fact and you can easily start hitting everywhere quite easily. Now its on each individual on how they want to exploit the AI. I know this is not perfect but I guess the other issues like AI getting Run Outs is more important. Just don't exploit the charging that much and you will enjoy the game. I for a change don't dance down the wicket at all and am enjoying the game more.

Secondly, dancing down the wicket will not be as bad as I thought before when playing other human players. The bowler has the ability to change the ball length at any time before delivering. This means the bowler can first bluff the ball, change the length and then adjust the speed. You might get lucky one or two times but versing against a good player will prove lethal and you will probably sky up a shot or two very soon. I guess its pretty neat to have that much control as a bowler.

This is the first game for which I have seen so many posts about people who are enjoying the bowling. Usually its the most tedious part of a cricket game.

cant wait for the ps3 demo anymore, Im going to try to play it on ridiculously low settings on my crappy PC tomorrow..

ya thats right i never enjoyed bowling even on brian lara 99 or any other game but i am enjoying bowling in ashes cricket 2009,cant wait for full version where u can produce reverse swing and different deliveries.

Ok. I have been reading everyones comments for past 2 days. i have been playing demo for the last few days and here are my two cents. i will not go into details as pretty much everything is already said in this thread.

Batting:
batting is difficult to master. i see people making 3/63 on hard, but they lost 3 wickets in 3 overs, which means they will loose all wickets in 10 overs in a test match. so this does not mean its easy to score runs in this game without loosing too many wickets. i have not been able to hit one six yet on hard. although i made 73 runs in easy. its a demo friends. you cant expect everything from it. AI plays it as its a full lenth test match and thats why it doesnt score too much. AI tries to leave difficult balls as its a test match and it does not want to loose wickets by playing risky shots. and at the end of the day, you are playing against computer and you will after a while will master the batting. Real challenge would be palying live and against other humans. yes there are few issues with the batting but over all its not too bad.

Bowlling:
AI does seem to ball one lenth for the whole over. whoever i noticed that i hit few fours on one side and on the 4th or 5th ball AI put 2 fielders on that spot. that was cool. I personally dont play with AI, i always play online. ofcourse i am talking about blc07. i dont see my self playing with AI anyway. i love to play online and thats all i play.
catches:
love the whole third person/first person view. i miss the fact that we cant time the fielding anymore as it gave you choice to be a good fielder or a bad one. whoever i am ok with this.
over all:
I am happy with this game. Yes few things can be changed and i hope they do get changed. ofcourse this game could be better but it could have been worse as well. lets have fun with this one and hopefully we will see another game from codemasters next year. maybe EA will have crack at this aswell later this year.

by the way this is my first post on this forum and i just wanted to post few of these thingies :banana2:happy:doh....
