Desert Rain

Thought I'd bump this. The weather here is incredible, you wouldn't believe it! It rained yesterday from like 2 till 6, but that was just light rain. The real stuff started at midnight last night, with a massive thunderstorm. It has been raining cats and dogs since then. All schools were open as we didn't know how long it would go, but it has become so fierce that all schools have been cancelled for today halfway through the day, and it might even be cancelled tommorrow! According to Effine, an entire school got flooded, and roads all around here are like ponds! And the rain is still coming down hard, and it is now 1:37, thats 11 hours straight!!! Absolutely brilliant! Although parents and teachers alike don't think so...

I feel though that UAEs poor drainage has had more to do with the flooding than the rain. The sun has only just started coming out now, so things might slow down.

5:22 PM, still raining, although it is much lighter than before. Still more than a drizzle, but not as ferocious as it was.

UAE got pwned by the rain :p Our school got all flooded, and it was raining heavily at the time, making it difficult to get from one class to another. Buses would have found it difficult to operate in the flooded streets too. All the schools around UAE got cancelled, and so did ours.

And believe it or not folks, 9:28 PM, and it is still raining. It hasn't let up. Still not heavy, but still more than a drizzle. It is amazing. All the roads, balconeys, streets are flooded, and school has been cancelled for tommorrow. Incredible.

Congrats:)

But this is really wierd. Why don't these people have a good drainage system??

The UAE has a poor drainage system because they very rarely get any rain. They don't have good drainage in the same way the UK has poor earthquake procedures.

Its true but as far as I remember, whenever it rains in UAE, around the place that I lived, it always was fully flooded. They know there is quite alot of rain according to the country, so they should be ready.

Think about it this way. A good drainage sytem will cost a lot. Now, is this cost justified for just 2 days of the year?

Also, the news is that school has been shut do for tommorrow too, and will start again after the weekend on Sunday :D The rain stopped late last night (After midnight) and hasn't rained since, so it is pretty much over. :(

Yay...Rains over:)

Its not worth...But it costs other companies alot of money too if they start work late or something like that happens.

Bad example. Every country gets rain, even the desert countries, what tends to happen in places like the UAE is when it rains, it's heavy and goes on for longer than a Boycott innings. Whereas we won't get any kind of earthquake of magnitude because we can't geologically, our biggest fault lines are the ones on Gordon Ramsays forehead.
