Do we need a ban list?

Do we need a ban list here?

Not really bothered - at the end of the day it's a cricket forum.

It isn't anyone's business who is banned and for how long. If you like the person, chances are you have 'em on msn or are in contact in some way so you can find out anyway.

Think of it like this. You go on a thread and see someone has been banned for no apparent reason. You are curious, so to find out you catch a staff member on WLM or something and they normally tell you. If we had a ban list, though, it would be a quick and easy way to satisfy and curiousity. It wouldn't be naming and shaming, because we can see who is banned anyway, and I haven't come across a staff member yet who has refused to tell me why someone was banned. Why they can't just put who, how long and why quite simply in a thread for easy reference I don't know.

Lee I got your back homey.

its like im chris tucker nd you lee mayne.

That's the bit where we differ I guess.

Aside from a few members, I wouldn't be curious at all and I definitely wouldn't be bothered.

But then chances are that if you're curious about that person you know him, and chances are you have him on WLM or anything so you can ask them themselves.

The only way I see this ending up is that people talking, gossipping and questioning the staff's decisions in various places like WLM etc., which of course I won't mind but I can guarantee it will find way to the forums which is when it will get infuriating. I'm sure you all trust the moderating team, don't you?

With so many people banned at once, I don't see it justified to warrant all the extra effort the moderators / staff have to put in to maintain a list, just for "curiosity". I'd think its rather easier you ask someone on WLM.

Or if you must, you can email that person through his profile.

I quite don't know what to go with.

Not having the ban list.. okay, fine. No hassle with doing list and minor points like People would just go after the banned people and nail them over what they've done and bhllah!

Having a list. Well, 'do get a pinch of positive points. One that a temporarily banned person would be ashamed or just doesn't want to be in the list again.

Two, that you can keep out from those people. Not just on PC. Or have a good info of the person.

People are different. Some banned guys might wanna be nice again and some, just get out of the site.

Err... 50:50. :p

You misunderstand! A ban list isn't a 'list of shame'! It is just to keep the members informed of why people have been banned and when they will be back.

For this we have a third option in the poll, vote for it :D

Well I've got the point that its not about name and shame but you still haven't replied to my previous post yet.
I don't think a ban list would be the firing up of huge debates over the reasons for bans at all. No more than it does now. It would save on spam, in fact, by getting rid of the posts saying 'why is so and so banned?' etc.

I also disagree that it is too much work for the staff. Once a ban list is set up, all they have to do is take the 2 minutes to update it whenever a new ban is issued. We don't want the spambots to be put on the list, just the real people who have at least made a post.

this is not going anywhere. It seems most of the users want the ban list and the mods dont want it. Ultimately they have to power so just close this thread and be done with it.

And then they have to remove older names from the list as well. With the current load of moderation and the upcoming [Ashes Cricket 09] with the Ashes actually going on, I think its pretty tough to remember when someone is getting over with their bans and do the likewise etc. Checking daily doing that is also an added load.

If it was an auto add on I'd think about it again maybe but definitely not now.

It wouldn't be a case of checking every day. Bans, on a small forum such as this, should be rare. A ban list would be easy to maintain here.
