Don Bradman Cricket 14 - first impressions thread

I played a game with my friend T10 on the same PS3 at my place yesterday against each other in casual mode? IND Vs SA, where I was playing as India
My friend SA batted 1st and end up scoring 8/84 in 10 overs. I started slow and steady and my score was 38/2 in 6 overs and after that I started taking more risks (but it was too much I guess). At the end I needed 10 runs of last over with 2 wkts in hand. Oja the left hander was on strike
Ball 1 ? dot ball :mad
Ball 2 ? dot ball (by this ball I was struggling to face Dale Steyn fast bowling with Left hander Oja) :mad:mad
Ball 3 ? missed again to a good Yorker through to wicket keeper but ran for a single to give strike to my right hander Bhuvneshwar Kumar, but Oja got run out before we crossed at the keepers end
Here comes Shami.. The last ?batsman? :facepalm
Ball 4 ? wacked the low full Yorker to fine leg for four :thumbs
Ball 5 - wacked the low full Yorker to fine leg for four :cheers :thumbs
Now 2 needed of last ball and 1 wkt in hand
Ball 6 - missed again to a good Yorker through to wicket keeper :facepalm:facepalm? and my friend started celebrating his great win but I hold myself and set of for a quick run and completed ?so it?s a tie and at the end I won on a count back?:lol:lol:lol
Hoooo Hoooooo?..what a game?. it was a thriller? I was cold n shaking n my palms were sweaty ?
that feeling wasn?t any different to what u feel while watching this sort of game on TV or at the cricket ground or when I play for my club?.great job big Ant :thumbs:thumbs:thumbs:thumbs:thumbs:thumbs:clap:clap:clap

Got to say im loving this game! It's breathed new life into my 360 :) Started a career swapped out the weakest english team and put my saturday team in, so probs with players but thats well known issue. Batting - all rounder doing okay 1st innings in the county champ 4 day game got 40. I've had many games since can't get near that score haha it's like the harder i try the worse i do. All good fun tho! So enjoyable! It really does make you feel every shot must be perfect 1 mistake you're gone! :) Bowling is going okay not as well as others on here . Many times i hit they guy infront im like THATS PLUM!!! not out... WTF go to the replay the slightest inside edge... WOW Awestruck by how well this game plays! I didn't notice many bugs other than the well known ones... Only thing i miss is when say given out LBW and you don't review for example and is out i'd wish i could see a hawkeye for the decision. Loving this game immensely! Might go out tomorrow but who am i kidding this game has me gripped! Well Done to BA for putting so much work into this game, For a 1st iteration it's quite remarkable the level of detail in gameplay. Truly outstanding! :cheers

So. The impression I get is this: if your a casual gamer and can't sink bulk hours into this game your screwed. I would imagine the career to be the part most people want to play, but if you only get sporadic hours to play the game, very little chance of doing any good.

The career needs an easier difficulty for batting.

The most frustrating part is it would be such an awesome game if you could pick it up a bit quicker.

Not all gamers can put 30+ hours a week into a game.

There are mid-game saves and easy difficulty levels.

Fielders fielding EVERYTHING

Hey guys, in terms of the game being realistic, have you guys been caught by an infielder on the boundary after hitting a lofted shot?

sadly i didn't have my game capture running when this happened, but i had a lovely moment yesterday evening...

left a ball that wasn't quite as wide as i thought, shouldered arms into the ball, it caught the back of the bat and ballooned up very high and dropped for a catch in the gully. splendid physics.

there is so much right here. if they listen to the feedback, sort the wheat from the chaff and fix the main issues - batting AI giving a bowling/batting imbalance in career, and ridiculously overpowered fielders the main 2 - this game would be wonderful.

Anyone else notice the boundary rope comes further in for T20's and ODI'a?

Ok Guys i am ready for my review of the game but i am having computer problem so it's going to be short and sweet or in my case written badly.:rolleyes

After a week i have been asking myself what is the best cricket game ever made and i would still say shane 99 at the moment for it's time.

I will not go into what the game offers as MattW/Barmy will do a way better job than i ever could.

Don 14 is a masterpiece for how it has changed cricket games forever but also heavily coated in bugs(5% of Ashes problems) and very strange mistakes by Bigant.

Sometimes when i play i feel i am out there with the Aussie team but then the game slaps you across the face with silly AI fields/runout bugs to name just a couple. Then you look at the amount of content in the game and understand what work was needed to make it all work was never going to happen without help and that's are jobs because i feel this is just the start.

To end this review i will say Don14 has so much love in the game if you give it time and just needs to put some makeup on and a nice dress then it will be ready to meet your parents:rolleyes:eek:

I feel i am reviewing a unfinished game and will review the game again sometime later in the year but for now the Don holds onto second place but is so close to the finishing line and feel it will pass in the next couple of months.

I played that to death but it was very simple, Lara 96 had the options but boring gameplay and shane 99 had the gameplay and options and blow my away for it's time. PS Now back to Don 14, i have scored five 50s now with a best of 87. So much better than last week.

Yep agree Shane 99 was awesome. I do agree DbC can be frustrating. Best bowling in a cricket game ever - lovin bowling my leggies. Batting is unforgiving in the career but spose I'm still 16 and kinda suck. My team mates might be wondering how I'm still coming in a five with my single digit average. Tweaked us to victory a few times though. It's a great game and like you said tight skirt and some lipstick and look out. So much on such a small budget by BA.

The AI batting on pro seems absolutely baffling. 85 overs bowled against them in my last match, not a single edge, not a knick, not a catch or even a chance at one. 20 wickets from being bowled and lbw. Words cannot describe how bizarre that is to witness. To summarise why it's so odd though:

- Every over there were at least two close play and misses
- They slogged it over the in field at least once every second over
- About half of the 20 wickets came from a missed slog attempt

So it seems that basically, on pro difficultly, the AI shots have two modes: Hit and miss. If it's hit, it stays hit and the fielders aren't allowed near it, and if it's a miss, no biggy unless it was going on to hit the stumps.

About 10 odd first class games in now and I've only seen the wicket keeper and slips called in for a catch a whole about 3 times, and one of those was a mistimed attempt at running it down to third man.

I edge it all the time, that doesn't seem to be an issue. But the AI, they just seem to be unable to edge the damn ball. It's either a complete airswing or a absolutely middled. I do see far more catches (not in the slips) normally from them trying to hit it over or a mistimed drive, but edges just aren't happening.

Did I mention that they don't seem to edge or knick the ball to the keeper or slips.
