Don Bradman Cricket 17 PAX Live Stream Discussion

Thank you @BigAntStudios ! With the length indicator displayed earlier, slider settings to allow users to customize gameplay as per their preferences, stadium creator and an in-depth career mode, you have literally incorporated most of the feedback from DBC 14. TBH I wasn't sure all of these items would make it to DBC 17 but I'm pleasantly surprised. Kudos to Big Ant team and a big thanks to everyone involved :clap

Mike did mention during the live stream that on Legend, the length indicator would appear like in DBC14. Well, the best part about modifiers for people like us is that we can now play on Legend and change the "Ball Marker Display Time" modifier to our liking.

That's why I love the slider based approach! Now I can play at the difficulty level I want to (say Legend) and tweak just one specific setting which is hampering my gameplay expereince, as opposed to playing at a difficulty level (Amateur) just because I can't change one individual setting. This is a huge leap forward in cricket gaming and pretty soon you will have a sub-section on PC.org dedicated to the best set of slider settings which provides the most realistic gameplay similar to the real game. Something similar to the following which happens in Madden and I'm thrilled we will be able to do so this December...
Madden NFL Football Slider Forum - Operation Sports Forums

One thing about the sliders could there be a number or something. For example people might share the slider settings and it would be hard to do so even with screenshots depending on how much the sliders move in each section. If that's possible. :)

Sorry to mention fifa but i use other peoples sliders on that and it's so quick to do as they are numbered (i.e pass speed 56)

Great idea, even FIFA does something right once in a while. :P

It'd only be a matter of time with a community as dedicated and inventive as PC that users would be sharing slider combinations to recreate playing conditions on specific grounds.

I just yelled out a "whoot whoot" at my workplace! This is stuff dreams are made of.

Reminds me of the last game I played online against Mumbai Indians. Every player in the team including Rohit Sharma was a tear away left arm fast bowler. I never played online after that.

You can't do much about it unless Big Ant only allow certain pre-selected teams and players to be allowed for online gameplay which would defeat the purpose of DBC Academy, i.e. you would want to play with your created/edited team. Madden/FIFA etc. manage this issue by allowing real teams/players to be played online but they can do so since they own licenses for players/teams. Big Ant can't lock down the team/players as they don't own the licenses so you will have user-created/edited teams used online.

My take is that if you are looking for realistic gameplay stick to offline or playing with your friends online. Online gameplay is for folks who want additional challenge and in my case I love facing such weird custom teams and tactics which you can only come up against in online mode.

Yup. That's what's gonna happen in DBC 17 as well. You will see threads/posts as follows...

Poster1: I used XYZ's slider... the gameplay is so realitic for Tests
Poster 2: I did the same but I changed the 'Spin turn' setting to 14 (say out of 20) for sub-continental tours

And maybe in the future iteration of the game, "slider settings" itself can be an object which can be shared across platforms via DBC Academy.

I noticed there was an option for grass pattern in the pre match menu. Hopefully there will be an option for no pattern at all on the grass

Maybe lowering the slider for bounce and swing once the new ball loses it's shine in (10 overs in maybe?), for example, UAE tests.

Yup. If you are not happy with how the ball behavior changes over time you can tweak the slider settings every session. Though i'm not sure this approach will work coz in Madden the a new game needs to be started for the sliders to take affect.

I think 'Normalizing the values' was a good thing to do. But the kids are ever too eager to host the game so they disable this option. We come across these type of opponents once in a while. I used to note their usernames and block them. I am having loads of fun against AI with Franco's patch. Been months since I've played online.

I loved facing such opponents just for the unique experience. I came across teams with demon fast bowlers (Joel Garner clones) and diminutive spinners & medium pacers. I faced tactics ranging from short slow medium deliveries to fast yorkers outside off with a 8-1 field to slow spinners etc. If you treat it as a challenge online games are fun. The only thing which p*ssed me off were the rage quits along with online bugs but I loved the experience of coming up against random teams and tactics.

That's exactly what I am talking about. DBC14 only had option to edit players skills and attributes. Gameplay sliders were not there.

Now if DBC 17 has given option for both attribute and gameplay, then we can imagine what the players can come up with.

True, but to karolkarol's point above, each pitch should have it's own characteristics depending on where in the world it is - Bangladesh/India/UAE big turners... Australia fast and bouncy, England greenish with seam/swing movement.

So, I guess my question is: will individual pitches have realistic characteristics depending on their location, or will we have to tweak things using the sliders? - So you might start a game in Bangladesh on what looks to be a perfectly flat, pristine batting track but we would have to use the sliders to turn it into a worn track which takes spin? And would the pitch characteristics (or lack of them, if they aren't applied) going to affect team lineups?

You'd pick 3 or 4 spinners in Bangladesh, rather than 3 or 4 pace bowlers - but if the pitch is just a 'normal/standard' pitch which then needs tweaking in match, are the team lineups not going to be a bit unrealistic?

Hope that makes sense! Just interested in how it's going to work!

Yeah I think that would be the way forward with this amazing feature. In the future I think individualized sliders for each ground OR an easier approach of setting 4-5 types of custom slider combinations that can be saved and selected before or after the match would be amazing too. It would allow for minute differences in gameplay between each ground or each game. It would be a paramount experience cause each game would literally be not the same anymore. Timing the ball will differ according to pitch as we set and will never be able to have muscle memory. Great future ahead :D
