For my customary one-cap wonder I pick Fred Grace, younger brother of the illustrious WG, who if not one of the worst was probably one of the most tragic Test cricketers of all time. Despite a solid first-class record which read 6906 runs at 25.02 (which was frankly brilliant for most batsmen during his playing days) and 329 wickets at 20.06, he played only one Test against Australia in 1880 where he bagged a pair, didn't bowl, and promptly died a fortnight later.

He can bat at 3 in my XI seeing as he mostly batted in the top-order during his FC career.

Wasn't he opening the batting in the series that Dravid and Ganguly made their debuts?

Tendulkar, Azharuddin, Dravid, Ganguly, that's about as good a middle order as you can get.

I'm trying to remember the other opener then (without looking at the internet). Sikh fella wasn't it? Big beard? What's his bloody name?
