England in Australia

You cannot go out and try and defend for a day aaginst Warne because you will allow him to start bowling well and when he bowls well he can tear you apart. We were bowled out because we allowed Lee and Wanre to bowl well rather than anything else. Although the 3 appauling shots player by KP, Jones and Freddy ddin't help at all.

Yeah I am not saying that we should have defended for a day, far from it. But shots like that were not needed. Jones's dismissal was actually the most needless I have seen for quite a while, but to be honest its not fair to blame him there as the pressure had been put on by the top-middle order who had been tied back at 1.5 rpo. I dont think we needed to go out and play boundary shots like those 3 did, I was just looking for more singles, that could have kept the run rate at, at least 2.5 rpo. The Aussies didn't get too many boundaries but Hussey and Ponting kept rotating the strike.

What you guys needed to do was playing like you did on day 4. Had no problem with any of our bowlers really and Warne was going for something like 5 an over. You can't defend against the Aussies as thats what they love especially Warne and he'll just take you to the cleaners if you do that.

precisely, England took the wrong mental approach to day 5.

Exactly.
I think it was a good peace of bowling to remove Pietersen, if you watch back you could see KP moving to the off side and Warne saw it a bowled on leg stum.
Brillant peace of bowling and that is what changed the game.

Australia now are likely to win the next test and the series with a dissapointed England with no realitic chance of winning.

Yes, excellent piece of bowling, but did he really need to sweep the first ball he faced against Warne.

thats good news for aussie fans, he doesnt look a very good player. very bad news for england wanted him to play cause hes not exactly threatening.

Well hes more threatening than last time but when he comes on to bowl I definitely won't be thinking wickets from him. His batting is good enough to warrant a spot though as he has a FC average of 50 which is better than quite a few guys.

Watson improves all the time he's playing, he may not be a threat this series but in 2009...

Probably injured his finger nail ;) Honestly though Watson always seems to pick up these injuries especially when he is on the verge of finally making a name for himself. First the WC in 03 and now the Ashes.

I've been avoiding this thread all day because I honestly can't think of any words to express my disgust with the team. All I can do is apologise to the Australian fans and quote this post I saw on the BBC messageboard which sums up my thoughts quite neatly:

I spent yesterday pooh-poohing all talk of possible defeat.I am thoroughly depressed and embarrassed by the pitiful performance acted out in view of the whole cricketing world.I do not think that crucifying Fletcher should deflect attention from the shameful lack of responsibility shown by the English batsmen during their capitulation to the Aussies. It hurts me to include my favourite player in this criticism but his performance with the bat was pathetic and his cliche-ridden post-match interview did nothing to raise the spirits. Well done Aussies and no, you are not dreaming.

I would like to see Watson given a chance since he worked really hard for it. Also Symonds is another great player, who deserves to play an Ashes Test (did he ever played one?) Martyn has shown his worth during the Champions Trophy. He deserves some more innings to prove that he belongs to this team. Unlike Giles.

The question is, if Australia win the third test, will they go for a whitewash or lay back and see how the fringe players perform against quality international opposition?
