England in India - Oct to Jan 2012/13

No Ishant Sharma please. Bring in Dinda and Awana. Ojha and Ashwin are alright for the spin. But, with Yuvraj dropped, it seems Jadeja will definitely play. So, yeah it may be well be 2 pacers and 3 spinners. But, not Ishant as a pacer who has failed to take wickets. Also, it is about time selectors talk to Sachin about his plan. If Zaheer can be dropped why can't Sachin? He has been as poor as Zaheer has if we look at their roles respectively.

England in India 2012-13 : Zaheer, Yuvraj dropped; Awana, Jadeja picked | Cricket News | India v England | ESPN Cricinfo

It's good we have dropped Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh. But, why call up Chawla? And Jadeja? I am only happy with Awana's selection. Jadeja has hit 3 triples alright but, that guy isn't Test Cricket material at all. He will fail big time. Sehwag has been dropped for the T20s. That's ridiculous to be very very honest!

Look,I haven't even seen him play any Ranaji match, but if you are judging him from his performances in one days and T20,then they are a different thing.I think Rohit Sharma falls in this category too.He has a much better FC average than List A but still he is picked for one day side instead of tests.
I am happy with Awana too.

No Ishant Sharma please. Bring in Dinda and Awana.

The very fact Dinda was overlooked in his home ground (Eden Gardens) for Ishant Sharma gives me the vibes it's going to be Ishant starting again. Could well be wrong though.

This is stupid. Dhoni, Gambhir and Ishant still in the team and capable players like Tiwari and Praveen Kumar are still outside the team... Looks like Tiwary's going to be another Badrinath.
Isn't there any good WK's in FC to replace Dhoni?

Any good fast or fast-mediums's to replace Ishant?

Dinda wont likely make a difference even if he's picked. He hasn't shown much in the international arena in the few chances he's gotten.

Lets go through the fast bowling options for India:

Zaheer Khan is too old. 'nuff said

Praveen Kumar is always a surprise for me. I have no idea why he's sidelined. He has a decent test and ODI career, but for some reason, he tends to fall out of favor pretty often. He performs and still gets dropped. He averages 25 in tests and 36 in ODIs. For the love of God, why is he not chosen in tests? Lets put this into perspective - Harbhajan Singh, who had shown no progress in his game, was suddenly recalled to the 15 man squad, while PK was ignored. I just feel for Praveen Kumar.

Ishant Sharma has become a tragedy for India, but his age and attitude gives selectors hope. It doesn't matter though because he can't bag wickets and hasn't been good for many years. It will never make sense to me why he's chosen over Praveen Kumar for this tour.

Umesh Yadav is good and has a good pace too, but he's injured. Lets hope that doesn't become a pattern.

Ashok Dinda has failed to impress in the few chances he's gotten.

Parwinder Awana.. well lets see how he does but I'm not entirely impressed with his IPL performance though. But that's a completely different ball game.

Varun Aaron is a strong option for ODIs. His List A average is great. But he doesn't seem to be good for tests.

Munaf Patel is another strong option for ODIs. He bowled his heart out in the world cup. Afterward, he had one bad series in England, and was dropped from the ODI side. He hasn't played for over a year.

Irfan Pathan is also another option, but not because of his talent. Pickings are just that thin.

After reviewing this, India's ODI options should be Yadav and Aaron, with Patel as the 3rd medium pacer. Praveen Kumar and Irfan should be on the fringes of the team in case of injuries or poor performance.

In Tests, it's gotta be Yadav and Kumar. It makes 0 sense to me to keep Praveen Kumar off the Indian test team. Since no one else has really showed that they can perform in tests, its a huge toss up for the remaining slots in case of injury, etc.

Agree with Bairstow for Patel but not Morgan for Bell. IIRC Morgan was the only batsman worse at playing spin that Bell on the UAE tour.

Deluded Ojha went celebrating Trott's wicket (7/2) in a wild manner thinking India were still in this! :lol

If I'd been watching (instead of sleeping :p) I'd have been panicking at 7/2. Being an England fan, old habits die hard. :D

All in all though, seems surreal winning two tests in India and especially seeing as we can't lose the series now. Just hope we have one more good game left in us, to take this series.

Job done, just about in the end. Shame it couldn't have been done for one down, and that Bell got a few runs that will probably see his retention for the final Test. Shame Ashwin couldn't make the necessary extra runs, I'd expect him to be dropped despite being joint second in the Indian series batting averages and boasting their third highest score of the series.

If they axe him, Yuvraj, Kholi and Sachin that might be too many but when you need to win how many underperforming players can you afford to retain? Evan Zahir could be dropped, but then I don't really care if we do the necessary next Test :D

Tiwary and Rahane are fair players but they will take about twenty tests to be good players, in that time their confidence will dissipate. Its ironical how fans like yourslef chased out Laxman and to an extent Dravid to broad players like Pujara, this Pujara guys seems a failure he played well in the first test but thats it! What about the bowling, what replacements you have, none I guess!

Just accept it, India weakness is finally coming to forth! All this crap about the revenge series and India winning 4-0 has shown to be a fallacy. All the arguments that Ashwin is a mystery spinner like Ajmal/Narine has been shown how stupid thinking guys like yourself do!

The one time India needed Sachin to bat the inns of his life he fails them but you guys say he is the best? He is crap always has been and will always be an utter waste!

I've never been a fan of India's bowling for the past couple of years barring Ojha. I agree we don't have good replacements in the bowling department. As far as Pujara is concerned, how long have you been following him, eh? I have been following him for years now and I'm quite confident that he (Pujara) and Rahane are definitely test material. Yes, as you say, Manoj and Rahane alongwith Pujara will need about 15-20 tests to cement their places in the side but the thing is, barring Pujara, the other two haven't been getting any chances.

----------

Squad for Nagpur Test: MS Dhoni (capt & wk), Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Cheteshwar Pujara, R Ashwin, Ashok Dinda, Pragyan Ojha, Ajinkya Rahane, Piyush Chawla, Ishant Sharma, M Vijay, Parvinder Awana.

Ha ha! Ravindra Jadeja is the test probables. Lets see what he has in store. That of course, if he gets any chances. Awana is one good inclusion but I doubt he will be preferred over Ashok Dinda. Zaheer Khan has been rightly dropped. His form was disastrous for the team. Chawla somehow makes it to the team yet again. Don't know why the selectors keep picking him. If they are picking him just because he is a leg spinner, thats the most mindless thing to do.

Yesssss!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to the English on another thumping victory over the Indians at the holy Eden Park! Soon the dynasty would fall!

Sachin scored 76 in the 1st inns and scored 5 in the secound inns, his worst phase of his 20 year old career continues, hopefully if he is dropped for the fourth test the Indian batsmen may be inspired to perform and probably square the series! Whatever come, the legacy of Tendulkar is tarnished we will remember him in his last playing days as a failure with the bat who was way past his prime soaking up the a place at number four in the lineup blocking youngsters like Rahane!

Sreesanth should be considered for test team. He's supposed to be India's finest swing bowler and has the aggression needed for a fast bowler. I believe that he will be a completely different bowler under a new captain.

Even if they want a leg spinner,Mishra should have been picked at least ahead of Chawla.

Always loved his aggression, good bowler also.

Just read an article in which Dhoni said he doesnt plan on running away from the captaincy position with the team in such a bad state, gotta agree with him there. People are calling for Dhoni's head but the fact remains that the entire team has failed not only him. Team India needs the talismanic Dhoni now more than ever!
