England in India - Oct to Jan 2012/13

Looking forward to that, Ashwin and Ojha against a quality opposition.

----------

Just noticed something... 5-fa for Yuvraj, wtf?

This may be the breakthrough series for Pujara, he looks a certain legend in the making and playing against one of the best most experienced bowling attacks in recent times will certainly add to his credentials, the grounds may let him down if roads are prepared it will show no substance in his batting.

As I posted before if Pujara makes a hundred it would mean everything whereas if Sachin makes a hundred it means nothing, but in reality its the opposite. I just hope the Indians at home get behind this Pujara guy and encourage him a bit.

the series hinges a lot on india's young batsmen, I think one of them will have to step up and play a series that will stamp their authority on their place in the team.

they're missing a load of senior players so it's anyone's guess how they'll cope. Pujara, Kohli, Yuvraj can't just provide little cameos and expect a creaking sachin or a woefully out of form gambhir to do all the damage.

I actually think england could win this and I'm not usually one for over-estimating england.

So England scored some runs against a random mixture of Indian seamers and still managed to lose 5 wickets to a part-time spinner? This doesn't bode well haha

I think though, it's the india line ups inexperienced, out form players that are more likely to collapse.

I can easily imagine a match this series where india turn a slightly tricky pitch into 60 all out or something like that, or a flat track where they end up struggling to make 300 and choke under the pressure of batting for a draw.

As an England fan I think we'd do well to draw the series. But both sides have significant strenghts and weaknesses.

England

Strengths:
-Bowling, Finn and Swann are most the dangerous but Anderson and Broad have also bowled superbly on subcontinent wickets in the last year.
-Main batsmen, Trott, Cook and KP have all got the potential to score heavily in India. Last year Cook made it into the nineties twice against Pakistan and SL. Pietersen's 150 odd needs no introduction.
Experience, Trott, Cook, Bell, KP, Prior, Anderson, Broad and Swann have all been playing international cricket for years now.

Weaknesses:
-Bell & co, Bell is pretty poor against spin, Root, Coompton and Bairstow are all potential weaknesses.
-Dressing room disunity, Could be a problem?
-Cook, First tour as a captain, could be a harsh introduction.

India

Strenghts:
-Ashwin & Ohja, Incredible starts to their test careers and considering England's record against spin could be devastating.
-Home, India have home advantage and the tracks could be difficult for England.
-Kohli & Pujara, Kohli is one of the best young batsmen in the world and his century against a good Australian pace attack confirmed that. Pujara looks like a solid 3 but is an uncertainty.

Weaknesses:
-Sehwag & Gambhir, Gambhir is in terrible form at the moment and Sehwag is likely to struggle against England's quality seam attack.
-Seam bowling, When Ishant Sharma regularly starts in your seam attack you know you have problems.
-Number 6 spot, Just England, India will have some difficulties filling that spot
-Tendulkar, Hate to say it guys! Struggled against the 130k Kiwi bolwers and Finn will only be harder to get away. Are his reactions failing him?

My prediction: 2-1 India, I think they'll just edge the series. England's batting to let them down.

Yuvraj should just be used as second spinner to Ashwin. Put him in at 8 and Tiwary at 6. That way we are bound to not collapse, and well get KP out cheaply every game.

KP isn't that bad against SLA. Look at his innings against Sri Lanka where he destroys Herath, or his demolition of Doherty.

And considering he scored a 200 in his first FC game back, that's saying something.

Yuvraj Singh is the only Indian batsman which I want to excel in this series, well along with Pujara maybe.
