England In India - October 2011/12

So basically, I'm trying to say:

Strauss < Sehwag
Cook > Gambhir
Trott >= Dravid
KP < Sachin
Bell > Laxman
Morgan = Raina
Prior > Dhoni
Broad/Finn = Sreesanth
Swann > Harbhajan
Anderson = Zaheer
Tremlett > Ishant Sharma

Cook > Gambhir? NO WAY! I would say they are equal. Trott >=Dravid??? UNBELIEVABLE!!! Even in his average form that Dravid has had in recent times, Dravid will win that on sheer reputation. Lucky that Pietersen is tagged against a guy like Sachin. Bell > Laxman? OMFGGGG!!!!!! Terrible analysis, absolutely TERRIBLE!!!! Anderson = Zaheer? I GIVE UP, THIS IS INSANITY!!!!!!!!!

----------

Do you know Anderson averaged 50+ in Australia prior to this Ashes series?

Do you know that this series is being played in England?

Do you know that the annual rankings upgrade by the end of August?

I dont agree with that. It doesnt matter where you are playing. The players you are talking about have performed in all conditions. And the last time India played in England was in 2007 which is 4 years from now, where most of your England players have been playing in England conditions so much in last few years. So comparison only by England conditions is a waste of time.

I don't think Indians have to worry about the type of pitch or England's bowling as much as some of them are saying here. We managed Steyn and Co quite well and on more tougher pitches than we're going to face in England.

I think the collapse in 1st test was more of Sri lankan batting failure than anything else. For most part of the series the English bowlers weren't threatening even to the Sri Lankan batting lineup, only on 2 occasions they bowled out SL below 200 out of 6 Innings played and allowed them to score 330+ on 3 occasions. For India our bowling will still be a concern though.

I think our bowlers will manage well in England. Our bowlers are completely different when they encounter pitches with some help in it for them. If England have to have a good chance of beating India, they should actually prepare batting friendly and slow pitches that don't help bowlers much, but that will negate their bowling to a huge extent. This time, we also have a practice game (where the entire test XI should play to get acclimatized). I believe we are due for a good exciting tour. I still back India to win the test series (not just as an Indian cricket fan; I believe we will be the better team).

To hell with you! Its not my arse's fault if you failed to see the criteria on how I rated them!

http://www.planetcricket.org/forums/2142424-post157.html

took into account 'recent form' combined with 'Home advantage' for England.

And in my very next post, I said this analysis could turn out to be highly deceiving!

Well after going through some of your posts here, I think you have double standards.

In some of your posts you are claiming such insane things just on the basis of pure stats that too of many years ago, and in other posts you are saying that stats doesn't tell us how the player will perform.
The last time India toured Eng was way back in 2007, so that team was quite different from the one today, so your stats aren't justifying anything.
Also your stats are faulty as Cook hasn't done anything of note besides the SL series against a weak attack in England.

I just don't get how on earth, Cook > Gambhir when Gambhir has been consistently performing better than him.

And Trott>= Dravid, wow. Add to that Bell > Laxman.:lol and now you'd say that I used stats to back it up, then stats aren't the answer to everything in cricket.

Also what you showed in stats was one of the worst analysis I have come across, Indian players have only played English team in Enland whereas English players have played every opposition at their backyard including minnows like Zim, Ban and mediocre team like NZ, WI etc.:lol

Also Bell played 34 tests in England and Laxy played 7 and you made a comparison that Bell > Lax. Wow, you're good.

Now coming to Trott and Dravid, Trott played 10 tests in england in which he faced Bangladesh and Srilanka(with a second string bowling attack) thus his average was boosted to 78. Whereas Dravid has been facing the likes of Hogaard, Harmison, Flintoff, Anderson etc. and still averaging 65. And Trott >=Dravid.:rolleyes

I thought Ollie said that, not me. :rolleyes

Wow-O-Wow! :clap Forgot the Ashes eh? Same in the case of Belly, Trott, Anderson and Swann.

For the (N+1)st time in this world, I'm saying I rated them taking into account 'current form' combined with 'home advantage for England'. Don't take these as the overall comparisons! Everyone in this world knows that Dravid >>> Trott including me and Laxman > Bell.

P.S: Let this discussion come to an end please.

Ridiculously biased stats. To claim that one team is in form, you cant just do that with stats from a single series. Moreover you were talking about the home advantage, i don't see how winning ashes down under result in any sort of home advantage. The team has to be consistent over last 1 or 2 years. You wanna add the home advantage? Here is how England performed against top 2 nations in test cricket in last 2 years(Australia,South Africa) at home

Only Trott And Strauss average over 50.

India Is Just By Name Number 1 Test Team As We Have Seen Yesterday How West Indies Give Them Tough Time. :p And Now The Mighty England Which Are The Ashes Winner Gonna Beat Them Easily I am Pretty Sure.

Do you know half the indian team is not in west indies? we are winning.

South africa which is a lot better struggled against a half strength indian team (except the first test which BCCI usually considers warmup :D)

Bring on the jellybeans English fans....:lol

I would say that home advantage means that if the series were in India, they would definitely be favourites. As it's in the UK it's harder to call.

I'm liking this pre-series banter. Lets try to challenge the Australian tour of 08 thread in terms of spice ;)

Whoever wins or loses its cricket who is winning. People said this 4 year back thay india need to win an away series and they won in england. Hope they do that again
