England In India - October 2011/12

Zaheer khan's loss is a huge blow to whatever little chance India in the series. It is totally up to Sehwag to ensure his team is not embarrassed any more.

I can't believe how Indian fans turn against there heroes. It has been what three months since Dhoni hit that six to lift the World Cup for India. I agree that Ganguly and Dravid have contributed a lot as captains to get India up in tests but it was under Dhoni's leadership that India attained the number 1 status.

Situation still under control. They haven't started burning the effigies of players already...

Obviously, the World Cup triumph has given the Indian fans EVERYTHING and the IPL came and gave them an overdose of cricket :p so much so that cricket fans here in India are not talking about cricket much..probably they are busy in concentrating on other things like movies, music, s** :D

After some months , Cricket will slowly start entering their head and then you can expect burning of effigies....:D

Nobody is taking anything away from MS Dhoni, but once he dropped Dravid, why does he have to go back to him again? I have stressed so much on the importance of Dravid and Sourav because Dhoni's is overrated at times,
If he is so sure and confident about about himself and the decisions he had makes, then why is he taking a backward step when there are tough situations? why does he and the selectors go to Dravid when the team is in crisis?
They should have taken a chance with a promising youngsters as it would have given him an idea about the English conditions, for how long will you keep demanding from a player who is already 38.
The approach is quite negative and defensive, only short term solutions are made for things right now.
People speak a lot about Dhoni and his captaincy, but once Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj and Zaheer are not in the team he just becomes miserable,
this proves the poor management and grooming of the new players, there have been so many mysterious selection in the past, players have been dropped for no reason, MSD and the selectors are just going on the wrong track which will be very harmful for Indian cricket for long term.

If you go into technicalities, you will see a lot of flaws in the current system of Indian cricket. These things are increasing now.

whatever, the ones who burn the effigies are the same type of people who bring such topics to the thread, they are uneducated and unwanted.
There are problems and flaws everywhere, nobody is perfect,
you don't just disrespect India for a few bunch of losers burning effigies.

Don't get to personal insults. No one is dis respecting India in anyway. It is the 'Indian fans' that have created such an image of themselves. We put someone who performs well for a period at the apex, we start calling him God. And, if he is out of form for some time, we start blaming him for everything. We (Indian fans) can't take the defeat, in a positive manner that is. We have to accept, England outplayed us, fully and completely. Nothing much an individual could do with the shitty bowling attack.

You seem so sure that it was Dhoni who dropped Dravid and not the selectors. Why is that?

No he isn't. He's bloody awful as recognised by any England fan who's had the misfortunte of watching him play.

Says it all.

That tells us the story of this season ,where Taylor has been good but Bopara has been playing a hell of a lot longer, has a slightly lower average but it's ok (41) and has averaged over a 100 in 2 series' against the Windies. he needs to be given another shot at test level. An extended run of a few games, which will not happen unless Morgan falls out of favour with the selectors (highly unlikely).
And I have seen Taylor bat in person this season and Bopara quite a few times. Both are good but for me Bopara has an edge. But then again I guess it's all about what you like.

Scoring runs against the windies is no indicator whatsoever, Robert "The Don" Key has scored 378 runs @ 63.00 against them which says it all.

Bopara vs 'The Don'

Key : 775 runs @ 31.00
Bopara : 502 runs @ 33.47

vs West Indies : Key 378 runs @ 63.00, Bopara 355 runs @ 118.33
vs AUS/SRI/SAF/IND : Key 375 runs @ 22.06, Bopara 147 runs @ 12.25

Teeny Bopar' needs to score a few runs when he gets his chances ie next Test, because he won't get many otherwise. He followed up the windies series with 105 runs @ 15.00 against Australia, you just can't score that few runs and expect more chances - he deserved to be shot not another shot.

yes but Bopara managed 3 back to back centuries. And Bopara does score runs. On the subject of Taylor, his only been in the game a while and it is really only this season that he has shown. I think the selectors have done well for picking Bopara based on present and past. Is we were only looking at how well someone does at county level then Tresco should be picked again.

Do you even know what the Tresco situation is?

Taylor has been a consistent performer for Leics since his debut for them in 2008. 59 FC matches @ ~50, so it's hardly just this season. Bopara doesn't score runs against the big sides, he's completely unproven and has been in mediocre form this season.

I think he deserves another shot at Test cricket, but when he's actually in form!

Its pretty clear the selectors wanted the slight security of having a top order batsman that can bowl a bit - thats why he got picked over Taylor or Hildreth.

Bopara on batting form certainly doesn't merit selection over those two, but this wont be the slightly puzzling selector from the Flower and the selectors, in which they are backing a player to come good and us fans may be skeptical. So in a way im willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

All my point was that there has been very poor management of players currently, I m blaming MSD aswell because a captain is always involved in the selection and player development process .

See the below article to understand what I mean.

Dravid recall smacks of poor planning: More - Hindustan Times

Dravid's selection was required because India doesn't have any other option, but at the same time it also shows that India has not been able to create a proper bench strength since Dravid and Ganguly were dropped from the ODIs.

All the sounds from the England camp indicate Bopara at 6 and Bresnan/Tremlett for the final bowling spot.
Shame if you ask me. Should have played 5 bowlers.
