England In India - October 2011/12

Thats why I feel Duncun Fletcher has a big role. He has to be at a level which Gary was.

We ended Australias run of form, England did ours for the moment, and South Africa will run Englands run of form later this year.

England aren't hosting South Africa any sooner than July 2012.

England

West Indies (H) - Sep 2011 - 2 t20s
India (A) - Oct 2011 - 5 odis, 1 t20
Sri Lanka (A) - March 2012 - 2 tests

West Indies (H) - June 2012
South Africa (H) - July 2012

South Africa

Australia (H) - Oct 2011
Sri Lanka (H) - Dec 2011
New Zealand (A) - Feb 2012
England (A) - July 2012

So they keep Ranking Number 1 if at all they win 4-0 this series or more till March 2012.

I am assuming that India win 2-1 at Australia, South Africa win 1-0 over Australia in 2 match series and Srilanka and Australia series end up 1-1.

Also Sri Lanka as playing at home conditions winning 1-0 against England.

England end up at 122 points followed by India at 118 and South Africa too on 118. Rest all teams are no were near 118. Closest being 113 of Sri lanka.

And by chance if India lose 4-0 here and Australia too, they will rank 4th. on 109 points behind Srilanka on 115 and South Africa winning all test series white wash :p

jesus, what a sham.

You missed out Pakistan in the UAE.

That tour's a doubt ATM, its not even available on England's cricinfo fixtures page nor is it on ICC's Test Rankings predictor calculator.

----------

Ohh and when are England's t20 & 50 over squads being announced?

I agree to Ollie, 2 T20's ? Come on, but that was to adjust the Standford TV rights deal I suppose.

Away tour of 5 ODI's and 1 T20 was needed. Wish India could have taken rest :facepalm

Yea, spot on.

The England & Wales Cricket Board has confirmed that it will be staging two extra Twenty20 fixtures against West Indies at The Oval in September, in order to fulfil their contractual obligations to Sky following the demise of the Stanford Super Series.

Lulz. That looks terrible. Dhoni is in awful form and we've got 4 anchors in Gambhir, Dravid, Dhoni, and Kohli. Lulz lulz lulz

We'll see what happens...

You are absolutely right man, they should have taken some more players who can play aggressively, if Sehwag gets injured or doesn't perform, then it will be too difficult, as MSD and Raina are anyways vulnerable on bowling conditions.
It would have been a bit risky to take chances with some aggressive batsmen, but then it was required to give the english bowlers some rough treatment and put them under some pressure time to time.
The approach of the selectors is very negative, they should not start crying every now and then in front of Dravid whenever the team is in crisis. He will be a big plus for India in the ODIs, but what after that? what will be done when there is again a series in England or South Africa. And over it, who will play aggressively if Sehwag falls early? England team has a series of aggressive batsmen in their line up and we anyways can't expect too much from our bowlers.
They should have been bold enough and taken some chances instead of making short term adjustments.

how do you know dhoni's dropping players? might be the selectors.

dravid's played 155 Tests and 339 ODIs for India, also has got 4 fat ipl checks....nobody's wronged dravid for crying out loud.

I am blaming the whole management, captain takes part in the selection so he is included in it . There has been constant changes in the team and there has also been a lot of mysterious selections since Shrikant has taken over. I might have said it a bit harshly on Dhoni, but the captain always has the last say in the selection, and Dravid has played a lot of cricket but was dropped for just 1 bad series,
and if dropping him was justified then why do India call him back when the team is down and out on seamer friendly wickets? He was also picked in the ODI squad before in similar situations in Champions trophy, and when India starts playing on the flat wickets again, he is again discarded. This is not fair on a player.

----------

Dravid is Mr. India. No doubts about it. He has opened, kept wicket and done just about everything for the sake of the Indian team. A thankless servant.

Perfect comment, Dravid is the most selfless player.....

i would've chosen irfan pathan but considering lack of form and match practice guess RP Singh was the best option when it comes to swing bowling, doubt he'll get a game in front of Munaf and the rest though.

Irfan should have been selected, because RP Singh has anyways not been great in domestic games and over it, he cannot be chosen over Munaf, Irfan could have been a good option as a 5th bowler and he can also contribute with the bat, his inclusion would have solved our bowling problems atleast.

The best article that could describe Dravid's sacrifices for the team.:thumbs

Gone for 14-16 weeks... Is this the end of Zaheer Khan?

If he can lose a good amount of weight, go through the rehabilitation program sincerely and make sure not to repeat his mistakes again, Zaheer can play for 2-3 more years. I am pretty confident we haven't seen the end of Zaheer Khan. 14-16 weeks is like 3-4 months. Lets say he takes one more month after that to achieve full fitness. Its 5 months at the max. He will be back in January 2012. I am worried that he might be rushed through for the Australia series at the end of this year which I dont want him to be rushed through. Hopefully Ishant and Sreesanth cement themselves in test cricket and Praveen and Munaf provide good backup along with RP Singh.

Please stop this 'Irfan Irfan' thing. He is downright poor form and don't make him out to be a magic solution to our fast bowling problems. He has not got back his swing, and at his pace, he has probably even slower than Praveen Kumar and we cant afford two of such toddlers. RP is much faster than Irfan and has also had good success last time in England. So he was the ideal replacement.

No he isn't. He's bloody awful as recognised by any England fan who's had the misfortunte of watching him play.

Says it all.

I was thinking the other day, with form Trescothick continues to have in FC cricket, imagine how unbelievably strong ENG would look if he was stay playing. Along with if Flintoff and Simon Jones were not so injury cursed

A possible XI would already be the stronger ENG XI of all time IMO - very close to might of the 1951-1958 great ENG side.

Trescothick
Strauss
Cook/Bell
KP
Trott/Bell
Flintoff
Prior
Broad
Swann
Tremlett
Anderson

S Jones, Bresnan, Morgan, Hildreth, Davies/Kieswetter/Bairstow, Onions, Briggs in back-up. The already strong depth would have been the envy of the world if that famous trio where still around in the starting XI.

NHoultCricket: 'Zaheer goes home, Praveen almost has a punch up with a fan and Sehwag has temporary deafness. Just another crazy day on this tour for India.'

Anyone got any sources of the last two? Took it off twitter.

My dad was telling me that apparently Praveen was seen storming off the team bus with a bat in hand towards a group of fans who I suspect were heckling him. He had to be held back by Raina.

They say Sreesanth is the crazy one. :rolleyes

Praveen always looks to me like a psycho mad killer

There is aggression which is ok but his behaviour is psychotic sometimes

Its funny seeing him getting mad at fielder's when he himself can't field

And then after all that he bowls 70mph military medium

Come now. That was one of the best bowling attacks in the world at the time in swinging conditions. I don't rate Morgan as a test player but its a tad unfair to use that innings against him.

I agree that was actually a great attack probably the best in the world at that time, and has been the only attack that has really troubled this english side for a whole series in the last couple of years.

I can't understand why RP Singh wasn't in the squad before hand tbh, I am quite a fan of his obviously haven't seen much of him lately but he did pretty well in England last time and led the attack well last time in Aus when Zaheer got injured. He also can be quite pacy which could be something this Indian attack needs.

But whats the point of taking him when he is anyways not going to be selected ahead of Ishant, Munaf and Sree, we just need one bowler right now who can bowl as a fifth bowler and who can be better than Irfan to perform that role as he can also add value with the bat. And he is anyways fit and got his rhythm back towards the end of IPL 4. He is not bowling that slow, he was just back after an injury in the IPL, that's why he was bowling a bit slow in the first few games.
And in England conditions, its the swing and control that helps more than anything else, speed can be an added bonus but its more important to bowl good line and length and swing it.
India desperately needs to play with a 5th bowling option, our bowlers look so tired and helpless towards the end of the second innings of England in Nottingham, part time bowlers are not helping as they are giving away easy runs which adds more pressure on the main bowlers.
And don't forget, Praveen is our most succesful bowler in the current series even though he doesnt bowl much pace.
