England In India - October 2011/12

I was reading in today's dailies which said that the selectors were planning to rest Dhoni. The team is announced and he's in. Ok. Fine. He's in. But I feel the best he can do is hand over the gloves to Patel and concentrate only as a Batsman and Captain, only for this series.

But here again...if India are bowling first & Patel is opening...then, he has to keep for 50 overs and again come out to bat. Can the baby :D handle that?

Sub continent pitches. Expect scores in excess of 300 in some matches. Audience wont mind. :D I see both Rahul & Ashwin in the playing 11

If something goes wrong the tail will start from here itself....:lol:lol I dont think they will go in with 5 bowlers. At no. 6 some batsman they will take. Then Jadeja. Then 4 bowlers.

Among 4 bowling slot, I think Praveen, Ashwin, Rahul will make it to the playing 11

I don't think so. He is recovering fast. I am pretty sure he will be available after first 2 Tests I think.

I would give Manoj Tiwary a chance rather than Yusuf Pathan.

No way! If Zaheer is not fit for the first warm up game of the Aussie tour, he should not be selected for the tour. Simple as that! Even if he is Zaheer, the risk should not be taken. We have had enough with it.

A little bit surprised by the selection but all the young players that I wanted are in the team. Umesh, Varun, Rahul, Sreenath. Hopefully they can do well.

Actually I feel its a great team that has been selected. I am happy that the selectors are looking beyond Nehra. And a very good lesson sent to Harbhajan who did well in that game against T&T in the CLT20. Umesh, Varun, Rahul all deserve their chances and they are rightly being given the chance. Only worry is the continued persistence with Vinay Kumar. I am worried that Dhoni will continue with Vinay Kumar and continue having a paceless bowling attack in this series (and thereby waste Yadav and Aaron).

You want to go in with 5 specialist bowlers and one bowling allrounder? NO WAY Dhoni will do that. In fact, Dhoni has said that he doesnt favor the 5 bowlers formula and that he always prefers packing the side with 7 batsmen unless he has a good allrounder. Now that Jadeja is showing signs of doing well, I think that 11th spot in your lineup will be taken by a batsman. Parthiv will open with Gambhir, with Rahane taking the No.3 spot and the rest of your lineup looks fine (for me, its a no choice between Vinay and Aravind, I will pick Aravind easily).

I like this squad.

No Sree, RP, Bhajji, which is a terrific move since they've been given enough chances. Harsh on RP who did the best he could after a long long layoff, but he wasn't match fit.

Irfan could have been considered IMO. Lacking match practice, but have a camp 2 weeks ahead, get him into some shape...given our current bowling resources, he could be mentioned for ODIs atleast.

But some fresh faces. Yadav back, the Kumars and Aaron retained. While Aaron does seem more hype than substance, no harm having him around the team, bowling to the likes of MSD, Raina, Gambhir in the nets. Good learning experience for him.

We get to see what Aarvind and Rahul Sharma have to offer at this level. Kartik's continued exclusion sucks, but he's reached the age where he really isn't a long term option. Ojha and Mishra have had their moments, and haven't done the job. Bhajji dropped, love it. Love it love it love it. Ashwin and Sharma is a good start to blooding some new spinners, with Jadeja for support.

So I like it. Bowling is our weakness, and the selectors are now casting their net out to find some new talent. It's a start.

And then, ofcourse, seeing Rahane and Tiwary getting more opportunities is a good sign too. And Parthiv is making that second keeper slot his.

Well I just called Dhoni and this will be the team that he has in his mind currently. I would love to go for the same team. :

Rahane
Parthiv/ Manoj
Gambhir
Kohli
Raina
Dhoni (C/WK)
Jadeja
Ashwin
Praveen
Varun
Arvind

So spin from Ashwin, Jadeja, Raina and some medium pace from Kohli + Praveen, Varun and Arvind. Looks pretty good to me. I am still confused about Parthiv and Manoj Tiwary.

Patel (+)
Rahane
Gambhir
Kohli
Jadeja
Raina
MSD (*)
Praveen
Ashwin
2 bowlers out of Yadav, Vinay, Sharma and Aravind.

I'd like to see Jadeja at 5 and Raina and MSD pushed down one position, but don't see that happening. I'd like to see Patel take the gloves too. Give MSD a bit of a break. 5 bowlers there, including Jadeja, while Kohli and MSD can turn their arms around...

Makes more sense going with Parthiv. Dhoni gets the cushion of having an additional keeper in the side so that he can rest his gloves and field if necessary. And Parthiv has been in far better form than Tiwary. And Varun is not medium pace!:D

Where's Varun Aaron? You dont think Varun Aaron should play?

The board has done a weird choice selecting Aravind.

i don't think so.. u needed a left arm bowler who is fit and playing cricket. You could say they would have picked irfan or nehra but both of them have not played any cricket in last 3 - 4 months. india domestic season will start after a week, so selector didn't had any other choice.

Aravind bowled well in IPL and he is currently playing CLT20 so he will have some match practice.

India Lineup For Hyderabad ODI

Rahane
Gambhir
Kohli
Tiwary
Raina
Dhoni
Jadeja
Ashwin
Praveen
Rahul Sharma / Varun Aaron
Umesh Yadav / Vinay Kumar / Aravind

hyderabad pitch is little slow and offered spin in clt20 matches, so dhoni may go for sharma in FIrst ODI. Varun Aaron should be picked ahead of umesh yadav or sreenath aravind as he was in england tour side.

If India gets a good total around 300 (which india does 80-90 % times in India), then it would be tough task for england as Hyderabad has a decent size boundaries and in england team they are only few who can clear those boundaries at their will.

Chance of Raining in Hyderabad is also less, so If england have to beat india(B) in india then have to play out of their skills.

Looking at their Last 2 series result in india, chances are highly unlikely.

6-1 (2005)
5-0 (2008)

Shocker at the rapid increase in amount of discussion from India fans now the score has been zeroed :rolleyes

If anything, the injuries to their old guard will probably benefit India in the long run given they've been forced to look beyond the old timers and blood some fresh talent into their senior squad.

Although having said that, the young blood might be crap and they'll end up back at square one. :p

Not too dissimilar to where the Egypt national team stand in football these days.

I'll have Bopara in the side instead of Patel - I just want a side truly selected on performance. And if that was the case, Bopara would be picked ahead of Samit Patel and definitely ahead of Jonny Bairstow every day of the week!

I think the selectors did a good job selecting the fast bowling combo of Bresnan, Dernbach, Finn, Woakes and obviously the spin Swann.

I'll have this side for the first game:

Alastair Cook (Essex)
Craig Kieswetter (Somerset)
Jonathan Trott (Warwickshire)
Kevin Pietersen (Surrey)
Ian Bell (Warwickshire)
Ravi Bopara (Essex)
Tim Bresnan (Yorkshire)
Graeme Swann (Notts)
Chris Woakes (Warwickshire)
Jade Dernbach (Surrey)
Steven Finn (Middlesex)
