I've just finished reading Graeme Swann's book where he makes it pretty clear that the England players don't really give a damn about ODI cricket.
Just how it should be
I want England to win a World Cup, Test cricket is all well and good but just goes on, and on, and on, and on, and on, with no start or end and being top is a status not a trophy.
Not a good start for England, blob and blob at the top of the order and Trott for some reason deciding to score quickly in that situation. BUT it is a chance for Pietersen, Bopara, Bairstow and Patel to make their respective marks, Pietersen to turn it on in ODIs as he hasn't been so much, the rest to prove their worth.
It will be interesting to see how Cook tries to defend this, I'm guessing he'll turn to Bopara and Patel middle overs as usual whether India are 100/4 or 100/0. That is of course assuming England don't rip India a new one which is always a possibility, but based on a modest total I'll be interested to see if he applies captaincy or thinks it's just going through some preset motions that never worked.
I'm working on that set of stats, last 101 ODIs since the 2007 World Cup and am about halfway. Based on the matches analysed so far, England have won only two of the 17 games they haven't taken 10 wickets in (excluding D/L affected matches) while winning 13 of the 16 games they've taken 10 wickets in. D/L they've won 9 of the 10 games to produce a result and lost only one which shows how D/L affects games and maybe favours the lesser bowling side.
Bops outscoring Pietersen, maybe KP's form is weighing on his mind.
