England In India - October 2011/12

Dhoni's easily our 3rd best seamer at the moment though :p Potentially second given how Ishant has been bowling.

Good signs from Sharma, pitching it up first 3 balls. We need Sharma's WI form if we need to chase a decent enough total in the 4th innings.

Oh yeah, come on get it there. That was a ripper! Ishant, just keep doing it!

Once again, ???

It was a joke considering the majority of the illegal book makers are from India. But the claim that India wouldn't make the follow on doesn't seem like such a bad one anymore, does it?

Lol, I thought you were being serious because I see a lot of status updates like that on Facebook by Indian and Pakistan friends during the IPL.

Before PK got going, there was one stage where I actually thought it was gonna happen!

Will England be sporting enough and give India a chase of less than 400? With no Sehwag in the Indian lineup, it might be worth a shot (if England cant score quick enough and want more than a day to bowl India out). I think chasing 380 odd in Chennai and chasing 380 odd in Lord's is completely different. And with no Sehwag, there is almost no way that India will chase down such a score. I am sure they are already thinking of how long they need to bat in the 4th innings to save this test.

Dravid was completely air tight. Good to see the old man still has lots of fight left in him. No other Indian batsman looked even remotely comfortable, apart from Mukund, but even he had trouble with the inswinger.
On to Broad, I think many of us will have to eat some humble pie, although one innings does not prove his the best choice for England, and may be with a 5th bowler we could have made India follow-on.
A lead of 193, 2 days left and all 10 wickets, unless Indian bowlers ball better than they have all throughout their careers, I could potentially see an England win, but they are going to have to be ruthless and declare at 350, which means scoring 160 odd runs tomorrow, may be they could afford to go up to 400 if they play fast enough but our lads are going to need more time to ball out India for a second time.

If we bat normally, i.e. without even being overly aggressive, we'll get 200 in two sessions, leaving a 400 lead with 4 sessions to bowl them out. No need to leave them something less than that really.

I'd hope for more than 200 in two sessions to be honest, as long as we get a decent platform from the openers and Trott we might as well start slogging. Just look at the rate Pietersen was going yesterday, 8 an over. With a bit of luck, Morgan or Pietersen getting in and Sharma/Harbhajan bowling poorly I'd back us to go at 5 an over for 40 odd overs. Over 80 overs we could manage 4 an over I think.

Obviously India will have alot to say about that though. We might get rolled over for less that 200 for all I know.

I mainly meant that in reply to the guy saying that we'd have to set them 350 to leave enough time to bowl them out. I agree, we should get plenty enough barring a disaster.
