No Bairstow, Foakes, Wood, Leach and Robinson. One would assume Mark Wood is being rested (possibly Bairstow). Does not look good for the careers of the others going forward. Two of them essentially having their understudies picked ahead of them.
I thought they might stick with Hartley because he looked the better of the two and showed potential with the bat. Although he has been at the World Cup.Shoaib Bashir before Test selection: 10 wickets @ 67

no indian conditions this time either, wonder what prompted them to continue with him
I really do agree with this. I've always been someone who'd choose to pick the best available keeper as a specialist, but that's one of my views that seems to be a bit out of time. It's a shame for Foakes. It feels like England has really squandered a player with a lot of talent over the last decade. It's good to see a player rewarded for his Birmingham Phoenix form last season.
Perhaps they've picked him off the back of his 19 second XI wickets @ 17.57Shoaib Bashir before Test selection: 10 wickets @ 67

I'll also have a go at picking my 18. Actually I might do two - a realistic one and a fun one.Jofra’s talk about getting fit and targeting test cricket for the ashes down under while on comms during the Hundred today got me thinking about the potential ashes squad down under in 2025.
I think, barring someone having a catastrophic loss of form or injury, the top seven picks itself.I'll also have a go at picking my 18. Actually I might do two - a realistic one and a fun one.

Totally agreed. It's a very settled side and I don't see them making any big swings on the batting front before the Ashes: Jamie Smith was the last piece of that particular puzzle.I think, barring someone having a catastrophic loss of form or injury, the top seven picks itself.
With bowlers, they probably have an ideal four or five they want to use, but it'll come down to who is fit.
Yeah, Carse can bat too. I feel like he's seen as a Plunkett type in the one day side. Not sure about test team.Totally agreed. It's a very settled side and I don't see them making any big swings on the batting front before the Ashes: Jamie Smith was the last piece of that particular puzzle.
On the bowling front though, I could see rogue picks for James Coles and Brydon Carse at least. Despite consistently average stats I'm sure they see Carse as a "Test-type" seamer (6'4" and 87 mph).
do you think he's really that good already? i dont know much about him, but he must have some serious talent for you to pick him in a (fun) squadBen McKinney
He's absurdly talented, yeah. Best 19-year-old English batter since Sam Northeastdo you think he's really that good already? i dont know much about him, but he must have some serious talent for you to pick him in a (fun) squad
