England tour to South Africa December 2015/February 2016

Can anyone explain to me what's going on with ABDv and his reluctance to keep wicket? Is it being done because SA need him so badly as a batsmen, or is it, as I have read in some writings that he feels he needs a rest? I also read he wants to concentrate on shorter formats, so maybe this is it?

I only ask because he's not old (30, 31?) and it seems very odd that, if selected, you wouldn't want your best WK behind the stumps. I know De Kock is a decent batsmen, but I haven't seen him behind the stumps before, so I don't know how good he is. With Steyn out and Abbott just about fit, surely you'd want your best team in as many positions as possible.

I am probably in a minority of one here, but I'd probably stick with Woakes for the next Test. If Jimmy isn't totally fit, his pace will be way down, and I feel it's important for Woakes to get as many games as possible whilst he is developing. However, I must admit that I am not very knowledgeable about South African pitches, so I'm not sure what Cape Town will offer.

Can't wait for the next match though and looking forward to chatting to you all throughout!

Happy New Year chaps and chapesses!

Think he doesn't seem to keen doing it anymore and he did miss a couple of chances in the first test. Anderson apparently bowled what was basically 6 overs straight through in the warm ups on the last day of the Durban test so having had a few more days rest I'd assume he'd be back up to full fitness by now.

Thanks Sam. Yeah I just read he'd done a full spell, but I guess it's different over a whole match. I'm a massive Jimmy fan by the way, I am just conscious of when he retires not having a replacement with experience in the middle.

QDK is a better keeper then AB as he keeps regularly. AB only keeps when the team asks him. Also it frees up AB as a batsman and a slipper.

Should never have been dropped from the test team to start with. He was basically dropped based on odi form and one duck in test cricket with the bat.

I am excited to see young radaba play on SA tracks. Hoping Viljoen plays as well.

Good news for SA then!

Had never heard of either of those guys before, so I'm looking forward to seeing how they get on in this series and beyond. I don't really follow cricket outside of England like I used to, so planetcricket is great for finding out stuff without trawling the web!

I don't know what the track is going to be like in Cape Town, but regardless, SA will have to play a helluva lot better to get a win. I think England are full of confidence and will put pressure on the young guys in the SA team, but it's good to see SA selecting younger players.

Our selection is such a joke I'm actually refusing to watch...

Rabada is down as 'right arm fast' on cricinfo. Did I imagine him bowling left arm on TV a few weeks ago?

Ignore that. I've just watched some footage on YouTube. Looks quick.

Must have confused his batting. He bats left handed and bowl right arm fast.

Would have liked to see Viljoen ahead of Morris. Bavuma playing ahead of Roussow is a joke.

Morris bowls at a good pace. Seems to be regularly between 88-90 mph. Looks like a decent bowler to me.

Rabada is regularly above 90 mph so this might be the quickest attack England have faced for quite a while, considering Morkel is also a 90mph bowler. Other teams England have faced in the last few years have had one or two quick bowlers, but not 3.

Viljoen and Paterson are both quicker but not that I dont like Morris more that he isnt good enough/ consistent to be a Test bowler...
