England tour to South Africa December 2015/February 2016

With bigred on this one. Rather see Footit who for me is an unknown anyway, Woakes I don't rate one bit. Pie chucker. People thinking he'll replace Anderson are deluded - Anderson was a much better bowler at the same stage in his career.

Here is a suggestion to the proteas, play better and win some games and you won't get criticized. What do these guys expect after being bowled out for their 2 lowest scores since readmission in their last 2 test series...

Proteas fed up with critics

Cape Town - The Proteas players feel the negative press they have received in the last while was uncalled for.

The team will lose its No 1 status in Test cricket after the conclusion of the current series against England, who boast an unassailable 2-0 series lead heading into Thursday’s final Test in Centurion.

Before the England series, the South Africans also lost a Test series 3-0 in India and they have copped heavy criticism for their performances.

But opener Dean Elgar feels some of the criticism is unfair.

Elgar responded to comments made by former captain Graeme Smith, who hit out at the team’s efforts after last weekend’s Test at the Wanderers.

“It hurts when it’s coming from people who were part of the set-up and knows what it’s all about,” Elgar told Netwerk24.

“I think our team management deserves to be held in higher regard, and not cop as much criticism as they are currently receiving. I think they, the team management, did everything that was expected of them.”

Smith’s comments came after England won the Wanderers Test by 7 wickets, courtesy of bowling South Africa out for a meagre 83 in their second innings.

"The players have to take responsibility for their performances, there's no doubt about that, but the management do too," Smith said after the game.

"They haven't quite come into the equation of late. At the end the day the performances of the test team for the last year haven't been good enough, so you have to ask questions of everybody.

"How is management getting the best out of them, how are they preparing them, are they directed in the right way, do they need to be firmer, do they need to be softer? I don't know.

"These are all questions that need to come out of the environment. When you are not performing well, people are going to ask questions and you've got to live with it."

In an unprecedented step, current national selector Ashwell Prince also hit out at skipper AB de Villiers.

“It’s never nice to hear such criticism,” Elgar continued. “Many players say they don’t read what’s written in the newspapers, but I’m someone that does read it. I can honestly say we’re still a tight unit. I think it’s best not to let the criticism bother you, but it’s not so easy.”

It's pretty clear that he's not going to be the next Jimmy Anderson. I haven't seen him swing one ball in test cricket yet. Evenin those test matches he played at home against India. He has occasionally moved it off the seam. If anything, he might be more like Broad- mid 80's in pace, tidy line and length, hits the seam.

Oh he is not a scratch on Jimmy, but ive seen him a lot for warwickshire, and he does swing it, he was also the quickest bowler in durban, but he is quite easy to pick up with his classical action so its not judged to be as quick.
He also swung the ball against India. He is so much a better bowler than say Jordon, in terms of cricketers ive seen play live, so mainly div 1, i havent seen fottit recently, the ranking for english seamers is broad, jimmy, Finn, Wood, Woakes, Stokes, Onions, Rushworth, Harris, Jordon

From what I've seen in test cricket, Stokes is a far superior bowler to Woakes. Stokes could easily end up with 250 test wickets. Can't see that happening for Woakes. I'd love to be proved wrong.

Chris Rushworth is an interesting one. I would say that there is nobody better at County level apart from Broad and Anderson. But the fact he bowls at between 78-82 mph, probably means Woakes pips him at test level. Have there been any world class test bowlers post 2000 that have bowled at that pace. Hoggard seemed to be a bit more slippery than 78-82mph. I suppose Vaas would've been that sort of pace, but would he have had all of that success bowling the same stuff, but right arm?

You're deluded if you think he's a pie chucker. Sure, he may not become a good Test player, but he deserves a chance. It's impossible to tell how good he could be if he only plays one game at a time. He looked decent in the First Test for me and deserves a chance to show what he can do. And I remember a time when people didn't think that James Anderson would be able to replace Matthew Hoggard, people improve, but they only do that if you give them the games.[DOUBLEPOST=1453404602][/DOUBLEPOST]Good to see de Villiers mouthing off in the press today too. He'd be better off proving it on the pitch rather than in the press conferences. And last time I checked, no one said that this was a great England side, it's just a lot better than South Africa's at the moment.

Stokes seems to have developed a lot since I last saw him live which was a few seasons back, I think the way he is being used at the moment is also perfect for him, short spells, can bowl quick
Rushworth would get demolished at test level end of, but in terms of the standard ive seen him play at he is dangerous

I for one am so excited for this test, can't wait to see Cook perform!

joins illustrious company in hitting his first ball in test cricket for 4, but jimmy couldn't have been kinder in the ball he gave him!

served up more pies this morning than Greggs!

Moeen is making it turn quite a bit. South Africa should've played Tahir instead of Piedt.
