1st session report
On a damp pitch Michael Vaughan won the toss and decided to field. Opening bowlers Harmison and Flintoff bowled superbly early on with Flintoff having 2 good LBW shouts turned down. The breakthrough finally came at 14-0 where Flintoff got Ganga caught behind of a straight full ball, Read got down well to take the catch. Only 3 runs later a superb ball by Harmison took the wicket of Sarwan, a ball pitched mid-length appeared to curve in and just clip off-wicket.
After 6 overs each for Flintoff and Harmison, Jones and Hoggard were brought into the attack and they bowled very accurately giving the batsmen absolutely nothing to play at. The only thing missing was a wicket and Jones got it when he dismissed the dangerous Chris Gayle who skied a shot when he tried to place a shot over the infield where it was caught easily by Mark Butcher. Between Jones and Higgard they conceded only 16 runs in 12 overs.
Then before lunch Dawson was given a bowl and he conceded 16 runs off 2 overs with Lara hitting him all over the park. Butcher also got an over conceding 4 runs/
