Pinch hitting? Like how Vaas was opening the batting?

I know it's pinch hitting, but he's never done it before on the NZ scene, so it was interesting that he's gone over there and started doing it.
Maybe he can replace Bell in the Wellington team for the T20's. :p

Northern Districts should open the batting with Southee in the T20s :spy

No BS, I actually think in the next T20 WC Southee should open the batting instead of Ryder, then drop Ryder down to five.
I wrote a few paragraphs on it for another thread, but can't be bothered regurgitating it.
Pretty much the essence of it was Southee is going to swing no matter what, so you might as well use him in the powerplays.
Since Ryder is reluctant to swing when McCullum gets out early (which happens quite a bit), drop him down the order a bit so he can come in with 5 - 10 overs left and clear the fence.

Maybe they are thinking along the lines of Franklin takes a few overs to get in (it always seems that way at INT level), but when he gets in he can clear the fence. So if he gets his eye in fully in the powerplay, once it's over and he goes for it he'll be able to clear the fielders on the boundary. Or they could just be saying go out and have a slog.

Trescothick is not in good form and that makes a big impact on the Somerset team. Pollard so far in all his innings has played few big strokes and then got out.
Somerset really need these two batsman's to play big innings.

According to reports Franklin isn't slogging while opening hes playing proper cricket shots. Almost certain he will open for Wellington next season now if all goes well there he might well "do a Watson" and end up opening in tests given that our current openers haven't really done much.

That's actually a pretty good idea :)

And lol at the fact that the English Domestic Cricket thread has been basically taken over by NZers :p

Woo! NZer's really standing out in the English T20. First Taylor went berserk, now Franklin hits 90. Too bad he doesn't do that at international level.

HA! You're right. The English might be too busy focusing on the World Cup in SA.

Tell ya what, that Ross Taylor knock the other day was absolutely fantastic! Was some seriously good hitting and his with his small backlift at the start of the ball and gradually getting bigger allows him to get some serious power!

Just read that hampshire have given up on having Mendis for any part of the season.

Why? he's not in the asia cup team, surely that massively increases his availability.
