Europa League Thread

A couple of interesting ties to look forward later tonight.

Napoli vs Villarreal
Sevilla vs FC Porto
Rangers vs Sporting Lisbon

Can't wait for Napoli v Villarreal, my two favourite teams to watch this season

There are a few Last 16 ties that might be somewhat interesting after last night's results.

Benfica vs. Paris Saint-Germain
Dynamo Kiev vs. Manchester City
FC Twente vs. Zenit St. Petersburg
CSKA Moscow vs. FC Porto
PSV Eindhoven vs Rangers
Bayer Leverkusen vs. Villarreal
Ajax vs. Spartak Moscow
Liverpool vs. Braga

If Man City doesn't win this competition i'll be stunned.

I won't. They have a hilarious history of shooting themselves in the foot.

But regarding the others: Villas Boas' Porto look a formidable outfit, Benfica have woken up from their early season slump and Villarreal are a great side, so it won't be no cakewalk for Mancini and co.

CSKA Moscow, Liverpool, Villareal, Benfica, St.Petersburg all have chances too. Mancini will need more than money to win it.

Moscow are a good side, Liverpool have the quality and edge and also King Kenny, Villareal have Rossi, Cani, Santi, Nilmar, Benfica have made a good recovery, and St.Petersburg are well good.

And also Porto have Joao Moutinho and Cristian Rodriguez and also Hulk. I think I missed a few players as I'm not familiar with Porto players.

I am surprised that Russian teams are doing that well. On the other hand they've got a big budget.

There are three Russians, three Dutch and three Portuguese teams left in the competition. All Italian teams are knocked. And of the four big European competitions there are only four teams left (Villarreal, Leverkussen, Manchester City and Liverpool).

Of the final 16 I would say a lot of teams are equally match against each other.

Napoli were the better side last night, but a very entertaining game overall. They lost to a good side, and had a bit of bad luck. Villarreal v Leverkusen should be another great tie.

Was feeling bored and decided to make a fake Quarter Finals and Semi Finals draw after roughly picking which teams will win their Last 16 ties. :p

Quarter Finals
Rangers vs Benfica
Villarreal vs Ajax
Manchester City vs FC Porto
Zenit St. Petersburg vs Liverpool

And...

Semi Finals
Villarreal/Ajax vs Rangers/Benfica
Manchester City/FC Porto vs Zenit St. Petersburg/Liverpool

The possibility of those teams playing each other certainly looks exciting. :lol

And also Porto have Joao Moutinho and Cristian Rodriguez and also Hulk. I think I missed a few players as I'm not familiar with Porto players.

They also have Falcao who is the current leading goalscorer in this competition with 7 goals.

Woops , from your hand on the draws , it looks like our run once again ends in the semis and if not , before that ! :p
And from your predicitions , all looks fine except that i would favour a Dynamo Kiev victory over City who have come into the Round of 16 after thrashing Besiktas 8-1 on aggregate . And Artem Milevski really looks an impressive and quality striker to me

It felt pretty strange what is written above. So I went for a search and I found this:

'The draws for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final (to determine the "home" team) will be held on 18 March 2011'

So the winners of the final 16 will not face 'automatically' against each other in the quarter-finals.

Almost every team in the final 16 is on the or in the subtop of their competitions, so hopefully we can see some good football.
