Europa League Thread

Ye deep down like you two i suspect he will not become a true playmaker per say, but i'd hope his club & country coaches never play him as a defender again, so we can see how far his mid-field development can go.

Another Eurorean final.

Hope we win it if only as a thank you to Rafa, man deserves respect, true football fans know you have done a good job and we thank you for doing your best.

Fine goal by David Luiz. I hope more Chelsea fans are able to recognise what Benitez has done cos ironically he's got them playing better than they've done for a couple of years.

Cheers:cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chelsea FC into the final of Europa league.I hope they will win the championship.

Congrats to Chelsea and I'm very happy for Ivanovic and Rafa, one for sticking through all the perceived hate and just getting on with it, and the other obviously because he missed the CL final last year(still think cards should be cleared out before the final!).

Platini might change the rule the day when Ronaldo and Messi get suspended for an El Clasico final.:p

Rafa has done a good job at Chelsea, several players have performed noticeably better under him.

Epic - here's an interesting one for you: Rafa to City? Regardless of what the Chelsea fans thought of him, the man has done a damn good job there, and he did the same at Liverpool.

I didn't know that Benfica hadn't won a European trophy for fifty years!

I'd happy take Benitez, like seriously, I just want to see City succeed in Europe and all the "6 games in Europe, you couldn't win 1" jokes really got me, it was like you guys just found a way to nullify the 1-6. :(:noway

But tbh, he could very well end up at Real, it's either him or Carlo really.

Ikr, sad part is they just about lost the domestic title to Porto at the weekend, but they've got a domestic cup final coming up, so they can still win something.

OMG, what if they did a Bayern of sorts... that would just be tragic. :p

Benfica haven't recovered from the Guttman curse.

Bet they don't; it's always been my experience that when a team has just lost out on the league, they quite often lose the Cup as well - it's certainly been that way with Utd.

Benfica haven't recovered from the Guttman curse.

He also signed the legendary Eusebio, then aged 18, who went on to score 317 goals in 301 appearances for Benfica from 1960 to 1975.

But after leading his team to victory in the 1962 European Cup final over a Real Madrid side which included his compatriot Ferenc Puskas and the great Alfredo Di Stefano, Guttman felt his success deserved a pay rise.

The board of directors at Benfica didn't take too kindly to his request and turned it down before sacking him.

An angry Guttman - billed as 'the original Jose Mourinho' for his self-confidence and personality - responded by uttering the words which have haunted Benfica ever since: 'Not in a hundred years from now will Benfica ever win a European Cup.'

Well, it's has now been fifty years! For a club the size of Benfica, that's nothing short of a long running epic disaster.

Thought the better side lost yesterday, but football doesn't really work that way, does it?

Anyway that's two heartbreaking injury time winners conceded in as many games by Benfica in the space of just four days - first Kelvin (Porto), now Ivanovic. Tough pill to swallow for Jorge Jesus' men and their magnificent supporters.

They're going to be singing that chant all the way through next season now.

Ha ha I know, glad we won it, but the fact that I watched it at home instead of the pub as I do for most important matches shows how much I really care about the Europa

Nothing compares to the champions league win, end of. And nothing ever will
