Europa League Thread

There is a waiting list to do that though (almost as long as the armchair fan's exaggerated Anfield season ticket waiting list). We apply a rota system. Nothing more embarrassing then reaching for the same laptop and brushing hands with a stranger accidentally like nervous teenagers on a first date.

Very true, with only a few hours to help yourselves, you wouldn't want to waste time getting in to a house that's arleady been robbed.

That Bale injury looked really bad - the ankle just isn't designed to bend like that! Just watching it was painful.

That's why he dives to avoid serious injuries like that I guess.

I've seen rumour reports circulating that UEFA is contemplating allowing the winner of this year EUROPA League a direct route into the champions league.

From a bias english perspective if this happens, it could be a big help for clubs like Chelsea, Spurs & Arsenal who are all battling for the 4th place in the premiership.

I reckon the fixtures congestion will eventually hamper Chelsea's top 4 ambitions - so if the win EUROPA & even finish 5th/6th in the league - a c-league place would be assured.

This would then save Arsenal presuming they are good to sneak past Chelsea into a 4th place and Spurs if they loose Bale for a large portion of the end of this season and drop crucial points.

Only idiots think Chelsea will finish below Spurs. The press seems to love concluding that Spurs season is finished by March. Any Spurs fan knows we'll always fit a nice bottle in there at some point. Teams like Chelsea and Arsenal know how to end seasons with a bit of form.

I also think the Europa League should have a Champions league place for the winners. Have done for ages.

One other point regarding Bevab's comment about Bale. The whole English press anti falling over patrol is getting ridiculous. It's become this stupid buzzword that gets thrown out constantly as though it's the only thing that blights football. Leg breaking challenges and crude behaviour are fine, but if a player dares to fall over to avoid a challenge that could potentially do them serious harm out comes "simulation" and morons talking rubbish. Players get out the way of legs that are likely to hit them because getting taken out is just stupid. Only in England is it considered normal to have to take the actual hit to gain the freekick. The intent of the challenge is rarely considered. Slow it all right down, and of course it looks like deliberate attempts to gain an advantage, but the reality is they're avoiding the clumsy challenge.

Of course there are genuine dives, but they're so easy to spot it's embarrasing.

The result of this at the moment, is that the entire middle area seems to have been lost as well. It is very possible for someone to go down but neither be fouled or dived, but invariably at the moment the player will be booked.

That penalty by Adebayor - I knew he was going to put that over the bar by the way he ran in! It just looked... odd.

I'm still hoarse from that Newcastle game last night. I was certain we were going to do it. From Cisse's goal onwards we dominated, plus had a clear cut penalty turned down. In fact the referee had a very poor game imo, the refereeing throughout the competition has been sub-par, both in decisions for and against us.

I reckon Benfica will win it now. They are a superbly talented team, who could pass United or City off the pitch let alone us.

Need to get a top 10 finish now, come back next season, aim for a top 6 and be back in Europe again with a bit more squad depth :)

I thought Newcastle were switching to the French league next year?

Once again David Luiz looked close to world-class playing in the mid-field, with his trademark hairstyle and free-kick ability, it was like watching Carlos Valderama reincarnated.

I hope Benetiz & whoever takes over chelsea along with brazil national coach Scolari forgets about playing him in defense after that performance.

Now that Riquelme has got old, Luiz potentially can be the South America continent's real true mid-field playmaker. Noticeably all the best mid-field playmakers in the modern game are from Europe.

I think that's expecting quite a lot from him.

He'll probably turn out to be like Alex Song, who was also moved from defence into midfield. A useful passer and good ball-winner but not someone who can dictate the tempo of matches.

With Auwais, it's very rare that you see a defender get turned into a playmaker, holding mid he will be.
