Fifa 09

You seem entirely convinced that PES09 won't have a new engine just because 'someone with contacts with someone or other' says so. That's incredibly naive for anything to think like that.
Well my cousin's great uncle's dog's mistress told me that PES is definitely going to be crap next year, so there's a 100% chance that it already is.

Never played PES though, just liked FIFA more because of its extra licenses which is what attracted me to it, and I grew to like it. I certainly do hope that next year's game is more responsive because that was its major downfall for me, too slow at times.

PES 2008 is a joke of a game, this is 2008, we expect something where we have some control over our passing... The game speed is also a joke, as are the physics, keepers and to a certain extent the graphics (lighting effects are far superior in FIFA).

15 stadiums, cant remember how many footballs, not many anyway (8?), only a few leagues (was it 7?), messed up player attributes (Adriano still the best striker on the game - where is he now? Sao Paulo, nice one Konami), old squads (Solskjaer and Puerta still in, at time of the release Solskjaer had retired and we all know about Puerta :(), completely broken online play, way too fast gameplay, only 1v1 online, crap player communication online, badly optimised for both consoles and PCs, using a PS1 gameplay engine, bad animations (face 90 degrees away from goal and shoot), only having 8 directions to run in, no control over pass power/placement, basic set pieces, terrible AI in for opponents and teammates, hardly any licenses, non-existant atmosphere, bad pitch textures, bad net physics, crappy old master league with no improvements, no international challenge mode, very annoying menus.
Is that acceptable for a 2007/2008 next-gen game, absolutely not...

Yes, I hate PES 2008 as it is a disgrace and shows that Konami make no effort with PES, we have been given the same thing basically since the PS1 days, just now it has better graphics and has been tweaked and improved slightly in some areas (and totally ruined in others)...

With PES 2009 not even having a new engine, there is no chance that it can beat FIFA 08, let alone 09...

@evo - There is slight button lag online, but it is hardly noticeable for me.

I've been a PES man since PES 4, but I'm beginning to agree with you. Every year, they roll out the same tired M/L format and bloody stupid features like 'dog heads' and every year, the same thing happens. I play it exhaustively for a month or so and then get bored of it. The M/L format has had it, Konami! Please God, make EA give us PC people the proper next-gen Fifa game! :upray

Have you noticed how whenever they release a Fifa demo on PC, it's always in the lowest resolution they can find? That's hardly going to make us buy the game, is it? I want to see how the damn thing runs on my PC with everything turned to the max (or even better, give us an option to fiddle with the bloody demo settings, so those with lower end PCs can see if it will run ok on their machine, while higher end users can max out and see how that runs!)

I mean, look at how the PC demo of Euro 2008 looks! I quite like the way it plays though (just wish they'd sort those headers out - yeps, those headers again, Madman!!!!)

Those headers are in FIFA 08 on PS3 and 360, not as many as in PES but they are there! :)

I don't think EA care about the PC market to be honest, the amount of piracy, amount of work needed to make it work on various rigs etc probably wouldn't be worth it for the bit of extra revenue they would make.

Even if you just rented FIFA on your PS3 for a few days or a week, I think you would be impressed at the difference in quality between it and the PC version. Manual passing on it is worth a try too, it makes the game almost completely different (and a lot better if you get used to it!) :).

If you dont use manual passing it feels a bit like pinball.

They are low quality scans, obviously it won't look special . The ones on the top and bottom look nothing like current-gen.

You can see a ref on the see a ref on that second pic, finally they have added an in-game ref :) Not that important but will add to the realism.

There will be more info when the mag is released.
lol The mag's being anticipated not the game. :p

Every online dickhead uses assisted though, so you are forced into using assisted or semi yourself to stand any chance of competing with them, even if they suck at the game .
FIFA 09 should options to limit the teams you play against online (how many stars you want the teams to be) and what control type the opponent uses, that would make online much better.

Take a look at this:
www.fifasoccerblog.com

Used to have manual everything but it gets hard to stick with it when someone with all auto/semi has forgotten that you can tackle without sliding like my friend so now I'm back to default settings.

This sounds so simple but would make a world of difference to online play

Lol i love that quote:

"Drogba tends to topple over as soon as anyone touches him"

Realism or a flaw in the game?

I'm getting sick of having to wait ages to get a game, I only play 4 star teams or under most of the time.

95% of the time they select Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Inter, AC Milan, Barca, Madrid etc. so I just leave the game.

4% of the time they use a 4* or lower team but play the same old boring close-down-as-quick-as-possible-all-game and slide tackle, use all assisted controls and just do the knock ahead run up the wing with the fastest player on the team.

The other 1% is the amount of people who will play fair games, with semi/manual controls and with lower skilled teams.

It's still a fun game against those idiots but it is much more realistic and enjoyable playing against people who try to play it like proper football, that's why I don't play many ranked matches, people think the "skill level" or "ranking" you have on a game makes a difference to anything so they play all out to improve both of them instead of playing the game properly. Pointless.

Maybe because some people want to win?

Its like saying dont use an AWP because its one hit kill, but its fair if you dont use it!

Yeah I know Rob, i was waiting for pingu to come in this thread and explain why it's a flaw.
