FOOTBALL Fifa 15/16

Unless they improve the best thing in PES (BE A LEGEND MODE !!!) they are done and dusted

Come to that, do we know what EA have planned for Fifa 15's Be a Pro yet? Even if Konami were to improve BaL, if BaP matched it then it wouldn't matter either way.

A bit of the chat I had with EA support about the stuttering today...

you - Is there anything I can do to solve the problem on my end, or is it a bug in the game?

you - and if so, will this be fixed?

Mithun - Our developers are working on it and it's just a bug you can say and sure this will be eradicated from the game soon.

Hopefully that's correct and it's resolved in the full version...

I am really hyped for FIFA this year, got the email with the page my Origin key will appear on. Would be great if they let us preload the game as my connection sucks. Will likely be the day after release I get to play it :(.

Fifa 15 is going to be the best football game ever, I have no doubts - but there are couple of slight concerns about the demo (one is a real concern, the other is nitpicking ha ha).

I have found the referees to be a bit red card happy - I have seen straight reds given for tackles that were a yellow at best.

Nitpicking? For years now, it seems that EA's 'background crowd sample' has always included a chant that is so very clearly The Utd Calypso - so even when Utd are nowhere to be seen, a Man Utd chant can be clearly heard. Nitpicking as I say, but when the gameplay is this good I move on to fixing the little things that can elevate great games even further. ;)

I just saw Aguero diving, Agger's challenge was a clean one but Aguero's brilliant dive made the ref believe it's a deserving penalty even I at first believed that it's a fair penalty but when I reviewed from instant replay, it was a clean challenge. Tackling is a lot more fun now though and it's quite easy to get a set piece as well.

I haven't had that many red cards myself yet, and none that I'd consider harsh. I've had a couple where they were blatant hacks from behind when one-on-one, and one where I sprinted and lunged in from the side, hitting about half way up the guys shins... He went off injured as well, pretty cool :).

The CPU seems to get many more bookings and concede a lot more fouls on the higher levels which I like, as well as the keepers getting themselves sent off.

I'm sure the chants can be modded quite easily with the PC community on various sites (moddingway?) getting into it each year. I'm looking forward to getting some chant packs including swearing, for a more authentic experience... It's not a football match without the ref getting called a ****** :D

Me and a friend play Fifa 14 nearly every night on Pro Clubs, and we've often been enraged for red cards shown for perfect tackles. The worst thing is, in Pro Clubs there was an odd rule/bug which meant the game is forfeited if you go down to only 1 Pro on the pitch!

I played quite a lot of Xbox 360 FIFA 14's Ultimate Team co-op with a housemate at uni last year, and yeah there were plenty of dodgy fouls given... You would make a perfectly timed goal saving slide tackle, take the ball and the opponent would trip over you... Penalty + red card :(. Ended up just not sliding at all in the box... I guess in real football it's the same though, you see dodgy penalty decisions almost every week on MOTD.

The chants can be modded, but I've never heard of a mod that deals with the sample EA appear to use for the 'background' crowd audio - that's where the problem lies, although once the modded chants are added you can't hear it much. Trouble with the modded chants is the quality and volume vary so much - they can go from being perfect to sounding like one guy is too close to the mic ha ha! You're right about the swearing though - just feels too sanitised without some vulgar chanting ha ha! Following on from that, I don't like the half arsed 'player emotion' when a player is fouled. Either have them properly push and shove each other or just leave it out entirely, EA. Right now it looks like they're inviting each other to dance or something... :D

I haven't had a keeper get sent off yet - good to hear that happens as it will make it worthwhile actually having a replacement on the bench. Following on from that, I hope keepers can actually get injured in games as well for the same reason. And I hope EA have finally introduced a stretcher into the game to take injured players off instead of having a guy who has just ruptured his cruciate ligament walking off by himself...

That's true about the chants - I remember PES6 chant packs used to have abrupt cuts at the end and each chant would stand out on their own rather than naturally blending in with the rest of the ambient sound.
I'm sure someone in the modding community would have taken these into consideration though and manage to produce some which do fit quite well with some decent source material smartly edited. Even if not, the crowd sounds are really good anyway this year. I like how there's a genuine roar now when a goal is scored :).

Another small thing... I like how the goal frame shakes and makes the net ripple a bit when the woodwork is struck firmly. The pitch deterioration is pretty good too, when you zoom in on a replay towards the end of a game you can see little patches where the grass is flattened/bare. Hopefully some lower league pitches will be much less pristine in the full game than the demo's Anfield.

Stretchers would make sense, but I haven't seen them yet, despite having a few players unable to continue.

I thought I quite liked the commentary to begin with, but having heard how shite Spain's World Cup was, and how the 2014 was Gerrards international swan song for the 100th time, its starting to grate. As is "Trying to use the height of Rickie Lambert" every time I play a long ball or cross in his direction.

Yeah; all the World Cup lines are what I call 'commentating for commentating's sake'. I wish EA would cut that out of the game and focus the commentary more on the match - the stats for example, there's a wealth of commentary in them yet they never mention them.

Yes, there's a great roar when a goal is scored, along with an equally good missed goal sound which varies from football culture to football culture so a Serie A game will now sound nothing like a Premiership game.

The World Cup commentary lines happen every single match - it's annoying enough from the few days playing this demo... Over the course of a whole season, or multiple seasons in Career mode it would drive me insane. I wish they had an option to turn off all that superfluous crap but keep the stuff just related to the game/competition in progress. Don't they usually have two English commentary teams (Andy Townsend and someone)? Perhaps they didn't record so much extra crap for the second pair.

I may switch it to Spanish/Mexican in the full game so there is some commentary, but I can't get annoyed by what they're saying because I don't understand it. They're also likely to be more entertaining when a goal goes in ("GOL GOL GOL!!!!" :D). I might even leave it completely off and just have the crowd/match SFX. I play DBC with the commentary off and don't miss it, although DBC has pretty awful commentary :p.

Konami have been a complete shambles for years, comically so. They are terrible at communicating with their audience, and they have released buggy/unfinished games for most of the iterations in the 360/PS3 generation. Their post-release support has also been poor, with them remaining silent for most of the year and coming up with one or two half-arsed patches in the whole life cycle of the game.

This demo situation is just stupid as well. How about just not including all of the database in the demo? People haven't managed to unlock everything in the FIFA 15 demo... We can lengthen the halves and play in the practice arena and that's it really. Instead of correcting their previous mistakes and building a proper demo, they shaft PC users with the delay because of their incompetence. Well, I hope the PC community also sticks their middle finger up to Konami and doesn't buy their shoddy 360/PS3 port.

FIFA this year is pretty much everything I want from a football game, and it releases much earlier than PES as well... It's simply no contest - I'm not even sure I'll bother even trying the PES demo this year. Normally I'm firmly on the hype train for PES each year at this point, only giving the FIFA demo a few hours and being predictably unimpressed. Complete role reversal this year and it doesn't seem like that will change for the forseeable future, if Konami carry on the way they are right now.

I can't see how anyone in their right mind would choose PES over Fifa this year, unless stuck with an older generation machine.

I have some slight concerns about the goalkeepers - seems they parry balls they really should be holding and it's a bit too common to see a shot blasted straight through them. That needs a bit of looking at.

Here's an early suggestion for PC modders: MoTD theme tune playing over end of game highlights? :)

As well as modding the highlights music, I also hope it's easy to modify the soundtrack to use your own music and add to the number of tracks. I always tend to dislike and/or get fed up with the repetition of the tracks after a week or two...

The presentation of the EPL matches looks great, but I'm sure modders will work on CL/Sky/MOTD etc overlays as well. Hopefully it will be possible to have the Champions League modded quite authentically in Career mode. That's one great license Konami have, and I don't think they make the most of it really.

I contacted the cdkeys.com support to ask if it would be possible to get the Origin key a bit earlier so I could preload the game (my download speed sucks), but it seems that it will be released on the 26th or slightly before. Can't wait :).

Edit - The official league & clubs list was released earlier;

FIFA 15 - Complete Leagues and Clubs Listing

No real surprises - nice amount of content there except for the small selection of international sides... Most of them unlicensed as well.

No Costa Rica after the World Cup they just had? :( Loads of World Cup sides not there... Japan, Iran, Honduras, Algeria, Nigeria, Ghana and Bosnia are all absent and there's probably plenty more I haven't thought of. FIFA is more focussed on club football but this is still quite poor.

This is the sort of thing you can do with manual passing;

Full power chipped through ball to split the defence... Keeper just got there though.

The animations and the trajectory the ball takes from playing long passes are just great, I love how you can spot these opportunities and attempt that killer pass from range - in the last few FIFAs the physics have meant the ball would just zip through too quickly to make it possible and in the last PES I played (2013) the long passing was so inconsistent/unpredictable that it was just a pointless waste of possession most of the time.
