Australia's manager mattfb has today came out and told the press the news from his meeting with several physios "a very bad result for Australian fans". The results will not please Aussie fans, who are taking this friendly very seriously. Tim Cahill, John Aloisi and Archie Thompson all have serious injuries which will keep them out of the friendly at the MCG against Argentina in 45 days.
Tim Cahill
The everton attacking midefielder, who could play a vital part in Australias quest to the World Cup 2010 has damaged his foot in training with Everton. "I'm really disapointed, I was looking forward to this season and important friendlys but I will miss the start of both with the 3 month injury" Cahill told reporters. "I was disapointed to hear the news, I was looking forward to setting my team around him as I feel he will fit perfectly into my planned formation"
John Aloisi
The newly brought Central Coast Mariners strike John Aloisi has unfortunately broken his foot in his first game for the Mariners against Sydney. Manager mattfb was at that game, and shook his head and bowed down in disgust. By that point he already new Cahill was out and was watching Aloisi closely only for him to be out. "I cant believe it, Cahill now Aloisi. 3-4 months is a long time and he will miss a lot of the Aleague and a lot of vital warm up freindlys." mattfb stated. "I couldn't believe I had gotten injured in my first game for the Mariners, but thats football. I just hope my injury recovery speeds up"
Archie Thompson
Melbourne Victory striker Archie Thompson also picked up a bad injury during the Pre-season cup. He was an outsider for the striker position but mattfb was interested in watching his performances. "I went to that game too, and couldn't believe the people I have been watching have gotten injured, first Aloisi now Thompson in just 3-4 months" Matt said in disbelief. "3-4 months, thats a long time. I'm really upset as I wanted to make an impact and be in contention for Australian selection" Thompson told reporters.
After a week or so of a lot of analysing and scouting mattfb is taking a well earned rest 31 days before Australias first friendly. He left for england a few days ago and had one last scouting job at Liverpool vs Everton game to watch Harry Kewell who didn't come on until late and hardly made an impact. "I was just happy to go see Liverpool go play Everton as liverpool are my favourite team. It was a thrilling match" mattfb told reporters.
It is understood that he will review the match reports of certain players when he gets back before setting his team to training and having a rough idea of the team he will be using.
