FM11: Blackpool - A New Era

It's what happens in real life though, so it's very realistic. I like how difficult some of them are. Adds something extra to signing players.

True but sometimes they are just being ridiculous especially when they are the agent of an average player you're trying to get and they'll ask for silly high wages!

Yeah, it's realistic but sometimes it can just be plain annoying. And I actually negotiated cause they started off so high but I didn't come down a whole lot and it was actually some quick negotiating. There's times when I'm negotiating for about 15 minutes trying to get a great deal and they still accept, that took me 1 minute and the agent said he was happy with the quick discussions.

23rd November - West Ham v Blackpool - Premier Division

So after a long break, we're finally back for this anticipated clash between West Ham and Blackpool. West Ham are currently sitting 12th in the Premier League but a win could move them up a few places into the top half of the ladder depending on other results, but their record against Blackpool is not great without a win in their past 7 meetings and only 2 points from those matches. West Ham would be missing a few players but only really one big name missing in Javier Garrido while Blackpool wouldn't have any injury news going into the match and a fully fit lineup coming off the international break. Blackpool only made 2 changes to their lineup that played Arsenal bringing in Jeffren and Edu Bedia for Giovani dos Santos and Ludovic Sylvestre. David Goodwillie is closing in on 100 career league goals with only 3 goals needed and although it is unlikely he will score them all today, he would certainly be looking to go closer to 100 goals if not all the way. This is also Valon Behrami's 275th career league appearance, for the Switzerland midfielder.

West Ham had the first attacking opportunity of the game in the second minute when they won a corner and it nearly resulted in a goal when Upson flicked Barreto's cross on for Behrami who headed it just over the bar so Blackpool survived the early scare. It was West Ham who really took control of the game as they looked to open the scoring but the Blackpool defence was standing strong. It was in the 35th minute when Blackpool had their first real attacking chance and it was a lovely move with some nice interchanging of passes before Adam's shot was deflected out for a corner. Adam got his second long range chance in a short space of time but the second shot went way over the bar and it was still 0-0, and stayed that way going into the break.

Elliot Grandin was brought on for Jeffren during the half-time break but it was West Ham who still looked to be on top and they finally broke the deadlock 10 minutes in, when Behrami collected Barrera's cross and calmly put the ball in the back of the net to put West Ham 1-0 up. Blackpool were struggling to get back in it and Hedger would have been hoping for a chance when he made a double substitution after 70 minutes with Sylvestre and Campbell coming on for Edu Bedia and Chris Wood. Blackpool were running out of time and the game went into stoppage time. Tomkins would have been relieved when he headed Grandin's free kick only just over his own bar and out for a corner. Despite getting every man they could into the box, they just couldn't find the equalising goal and would have been very disappointed to go down 1-0.

Valon Behrami took the MOTM award for the only goal of the game but was also pretty solid elsewhere winning 3 tackles, 3 headers of which 2 were key headers and taking 1 intercept. James Tomkins was also solid in the central defence, winning 2/2 tackles, 9 headers, 3 of them key for his side and making 6 interceptions and one run past an opponent. It was pretty disappointing for Blackpool but Dorsin and Jones were two of the stand out performers. Mikael Dorsin completed 38 passes, won all 3 tackles that he attempted, 5/5 headers and making 7 interceptions. Phil Jones continued his great form with 5 headers, 2 key headers while making 6 intercepts to break down a lot of West Ham's attacks. His form this season has been outstanding with an average match rating of 7.16 in the Premier League while he has also been near perfect as the English U21 team's skipper with a lowest match rating of 7.3 since February this year (9 games), which included 4 goals. He could well be a contender for the Players' Young Player, having picked up the Young Player of the Month award last month and coming runner up in the two previous months, Chris Wood and Lee Hodson other contenders for the award with great performances and of course Chris Wood winning the award last season.

Blackpool to Sign Rodrigo

Today, Blackpool have confirmed the news that Benfica's striker, Rodrigo will make the move to the Seasiders on the 1st January next year for a fee of ?900k. There were rumours that Jermain Defoe would make the switch to Blackpool but those rumours were denied and instead, the 22 year old Spanish striker would join Blackpool. Rodrigo had this to say, "I am really pleased to make the move to Blackpool. I felt on the outside at Benfica and hope that this change will work out for me. I understand I'm not going to be in Blackpool's first team plans straight away but I'm still young and hopefully can make a first team spot mine in the next few years and I can learn a lot from people like David [Goodwillie] who have made the move to the Premier League and have really shined." In a recent press conference, this was what manager Brendon Hedger stated, "I'm really pleased to finalise the deal with Rodrigo and feel he is a great capture for the club. After the breakdown with Marcus Berg, we had to look elsewhere and after getting some reports on the 22 year old, I thought he would be an excellent signing and at ?900k, it will take the pressure off him a lot, not having to live up to a huge transfer fee. I hope that he can settle at the club quickly and start scoring the goals to continue our success in the top flight." Blackpool staff have denied all claims of chasing any other players at this point in time. Blackpool currently sit 4th in the premier league and have a tough run ahead of them with 3 of their next 4 games away from home before coming back home to face Chelsea and Man City before going away to Liverpool and then face Newcastle and Tottenham before their fixture list gets much more promising.

27th November - Birmingham v Blackpool - Premier Division

It was surprising to see Birmingham go into this match as slight favourites, although Birmingham have been performing very well this season, sitting in 10th position and although have not beaten Blackpool in their last 6 meetings, they would be confident of their chances at home against an inconsistent Blackpool side. Birmingham would be without some big names though with Chris Gunter, Craig Gardner and Nikola Zigic missing through injury, while Blackpool would go into the game with a clean bill of health. Blackpool made a few changes to their side while Mikael Dorsin would also make his 300th career appearance.

Birmingham:

DL: Liam Ridgewell
DC: Scott Dann (C)
DC: Roger Johnson

ML: Simone Padoin
MC: Jack Collison
MC: Kevin McDonald
MR: Sebastian Larsson

ST: Amara Diane
ST: Lhadji Badiane

Blackpool:

GK: William Caballero

DL: Michael Dorsin
DC: Phil Jones
DC: Craig Cathcart
DR: Lee Hodson

ML: James McFadden
MC: Charlie Adam (C)
MC: Ludovic Sylvestre
MR: Elliot Grandin

ST: David Goodwillie
ST: Chris Wood

Subs: David Ospina, Tarik Brack, Ian Evatt, Edu Bedia, Israel, Giovani dos Santos, DJ Campbell

It was Blackpool who had the first attacking opportunity of the match and Goodwillie had two chances early on to open the scoring but he was denied on both occassions before Badiane tested out Caballero 10 minutes in with a nice strike of the football but the Blackpool keeper was up for the challenge. It was really all Blackpool though as they took control of the game and Goodwillie was getting frustrated as he kept missing a few simple chances, unable to beat the keeper one-on-one. Blackpool would have been disappointed to go into the break still level but they would be looking to change that after the break.

Birmingham came out looking to take control of the game though and it didn't take long for them to take the lead, the pressure of 3 consecutive corners paying off as Larsson's cross was parried by Caballero straight into the path of Roger Johnson who put the ball into the back of the net to give Birmingham the lead only 4 minutes in. The game continued to be in the balance but neither team could find the back of the net and after 70 minutes, Birmingham still led 1-0. The Seasiders finally drew back level though a couple of minutes later when some scrappy defence allowed Charlie Adam to take a long range shot when Grandin laid the ball back to him and Adam nicely lobbed the keeper to put the ball in the top left corner and Blackpool were back level. Blackpool with the game levelled up decided to bring off Sylvestre for Ian Evatt surprisingly moving Phil Jones into the midfield. Charlie Adam was in the action again when he was fouled for pulling Simpson's shirt and found his way into the book and was then substituted along with James McFadden for Edu Bedia and Giovani dos Santos in the 86th minute. The change seemed to work perfectly as Blackpool scored straight away to take the lead late in the game and snatch the victory, it seemed. Edu Bedia showed great vision to pick out Goodwillie's run with a long pass straight onto the chest of David Goodwillie who controlled the ball before cutting back past the defender and then making the precise finish on the edge of the box, leaving Foster no chance and Blackpool had taken a memorable victory at Birmingham. Birmingham tried to make something happen in stoppage time but their attacks couldn't come to anything as Blackpool won 2-1 to move into first on the ladder, although Man Utd and Chelsea both have a game in hand over them.

Charlie Adam took the MOTM award with a fine performance. He scored the equalising goal, made 3 key passes, won 5 tackles and 3 headers to cap off a great all-round performance that his team needed to take all 3 points at Birmingham. Caballero put in a fine performance in the goals with a number of quality saves while Jones' great form at the back continued as he made 2/2 tackles, won 9 of 10 headers of which 3 were key and took 7 interceptions. For Birmingham, it was Roger Johnson who played very well. He scored the goal early in the second half to give Birmingham their lead but put in a very good performance at the back, winning all 7 tackles that he attempted, won 8 headers, 2 of them key headers and took 4 intercepts to cap off a great performance and was lucky not to take the MOTM award. It wasn't a bad performance from Birmingham but they would have liked a few more players to impact on the game a bit more. It was an entertaining game though and a draw would have probably seemed to be a fair result, only for Blackpool to snatch the points very late in the game.

For each match.:p:p

More updates in one day would be great, that is assuming you are free. :lol

Are you joking or not? I can't tell whether you're laughing at the 'assuming I'm free' bit or the 'More updates in one day' bit. Cause yeah, one update a day is enough. It takes half an hour or around there to do a match update, with all the writing with the previews, match and stats, and I have other stuff to do.

1st December - Blackpool v Peterborough - Premier Division

Peterborough would be looking for a win today but it would be very tough away to a Blackpool side who are flying high in second place and another win would take them above Chelsea for the time being with Chelsea still having a game in hand. Blackpool continued to have no injuries to report of, while Peterborough would miss a few players through injury, with Lee Peltier, Ben Mee, Keith Fahey and Chris Whelpdale out for today's match. Much would rely on striker, Leigh Griffiths who has been ever so present for Peterborough with 4 goals this season and was a major reason for Peterborough's promotion last season with 14 goals in 18 games after joining the club halfway through the season. The two teams have only met once since 2010 but it was Blackpool who came out on top on that occasion with a 3-1 win. For the first time this season, Blackpool made no changes at all and hopefully they would do the job once again against Peterborough. Phil Jones continues to impress for Blackpool and is one of the key men for his team, having just picked up the Young Player of the Month award for the second month in a row while Joe Lewis will have to be excellent in goals to deny the likes of David Goodwillie and Chris Wood from short range while also deal with the long range shots of Charlie Adam and Ludovic Sylvestre who make a habit of scoring important goals with stunning long range strikes.

MC: Charlie Adam (C)
MC: Ludovic Sylvestre
MR: Elliot Grandin

ST: David Goodwillie
ST: Chris Wood

Subs: David Ospina, Tarik Brack, Ian Evatt, Edu Bedia, Israel, Giovani dos Santos, DJ Campbell

It didn't take long for Blackpool to get on the scoresheet, after Chris Wood collected a lobbed through ball from Lee Hodson before showing great first touch to chest it down before hitting it on the volley past the keeper to put Blackpool 1-0 up only 13 minutes in. Chris Wood was denied a second goal 5 minutes later, thanks to a fantastic save from Joe Lewis to tip the ball wide. Blackpool continued to create the majority of chances but they just couldn't find the back of the net, but just as it was looking like staying at 1-0 going into the break, Chris Wood found the net yet again after a great ball from David Goodwillie found him unmarked inside the box and it was a simple finish from the New Zealand striker and Blackpool went into the break 2-0 up.

Wood nearly had his hattrick just under 10 minutes into the second half when McFadden's cross found Wood's head but went over the bar. After a couple of chances for Blackpool in quick succession, the game went quiet as neither team could create any substantial attack but Caballero was finally put to the test after 68 minutes and showed his skills with a top class save to keep Blackpool 2-0 up, and Israel was then brought on for James McFadden. A horrible mixup from Williams and Zakuani with 10 minutes remaining only added to Peterborough's misery as Zakuani put the ball into his own net and Blackpool were up 3-0 with full control of the game. Nothing changed from then until full-time though as Blackpool won 3-0, a solid performance against a woeful Peterborough side.

Chris Wood was today's MOTM as he showed some class to score 2 goals but troubled the keeper on many occassions with 4 shots on target while winning 5 headers as well to round off a great performance. Lee Hodson was superb at the back, in both attack and defence. He completed 42 of 50 passes, including 1 key pass and 1 assist while he completed 2 crosses, won 3 tackles and made 6 interceptions, a great performance from the Northern Ireland right back. Charlie Adam dictated play well in the midfield as the skipper of the side, completing nearly all of his passes with 28/31 passes finding its mark, including 4 key passes while he also won one header and made 2 interceptions while travelling 10.8km including 1 successful run past an opponent. Peterborough were very disappointing and noone really did well for them and it was no surprise to see them go down 3-0 but they'd be looking to hit back, and they would need to if they wanted to avoid relegation.
