FOOTBALL Football Manager Discussion

One word. Classic! That kind of match would have driven me mental! :p

And Julio Cesar scoring and booked?!! Is that the Julio Cesar that we all know or is he another player?

My first real achievement on FM2011:

blackpoolchampionship.png

Didn't quite end the season the way we wanted, with only one win from the last five games, but we were Champions nonetheless. Not bad considering I took charge the season before with the side fighting relegation.

Well I've decided to start a Blackpool save. I've made 3 new signings, Michael Ball on a free transfer and David Goodwille for 1.4M pounds from Dundee Utd. My last transfer was Christophe Gregoire, a left midfielder on a free transfer.

Don't know whether I'll make any other free transfers.

Well I nearly pulled off an upset against Chelsea in our first game when debutant, Gregoire scored within 5 minutes after a good counter attack and continued to make good chances and went into the break up 1-0 but Drogba scored in the 57th minute when his tap in went in off the post and although Blackpool another 2 clear cut chances, they missed them and were made to pay when Ramires scored in the 85th minute to win 2-1 but a great effort. It doesn't get much easier though with our second match against Liverpool.

Stats: Blackpool/Chelsea

Shots - 11/15
On Target - 4/6
Clear Cut Chances - 3/2
Possession - 51%/49%
Pass Completion - 70%/75%
Tackles Won - 61%/67%

So a very even match and probably deserved to be a draw.

Ok, monthly update.

Was unlucky again against Liverpool, losing 2-1 with Agger scoring the first goal and Joe Cole the second in the 75th minute while Goodwillie scored for us.

We drew Huddersfield in the league cup and it was a goalfest as we won 7-4 although we were 3-0 up at half time at 7-2 up after 80 minutes. DJ Campbell scored 4 goals while Goodwillie, Vaughan and Grandin scored a goal each.

And we finally got on the board against Newcastle, thanks to an early Goodwillie goal before Andy Carroll equalised in the 67th minute and we drew 1-1.

So Goodwillie seems to be an excellent pickup with 2 goals in 3 premier league matches and 1 in 1 cup match.

won the league against with inter.

pretty sick too. AC had an unreal season. they broke the record for goals in series A in one season after 34 matches. But i then broke that record and set a record point total.

lost in the champions league quartets to barca 2-1 on aggregate. being down to 10 men for 60 minutes+ of both legs was not helpful.

lost in the semis of the coppa italia to lazio 1-0 on aggregate.lost 1-0 away first leg despite dominating. then 22 shots to their 4 in the 2nd leg only to finish 0-0. so no double again.

Well just had a great month, including some rivalry with Bolton manager Owen Coyle and then winning 3-1 against them.

The month didn't start well though with a 4-1 hammering at The Hawthorns against West Brom with Odemwingie scoring a hattrick, while Goodwillie was our only scorer and when he pulled it back to 2-1, we still had a good chance but couldn't go on.

We came back home then to face Birmingham in a must win fixture, going in as slight underdogs but 3 goals in the space of ten minutes made sure there was no coming back with Campbell, Taylor-Fletcher and Goodwillie all scoring between the 35th minute and half time and although we couldn't add any more goals to that in the second half, we defended well and kept a clean sheet for the first time this season.

After being put up against weaker side, Doncaster in the league cup, it should have been an easy victory and again, Goodwillie put in a good performance scoring a double while Campbell also added another goal to his tally before Sharp pulled one back late in the game but they still had no hope and we held on to win 3-1.

To end the month, we travelled away to Bolton in a hyped up match. It was big and was a match both clubs wanted to win. The first half was closely contested but an own goal from Zat Knight put Blackpool in the lead, going into the break. Grandin coming off the bench for the injured Taylor-Fletcher then extended Blackpool's lead early in the second half after latching on to a great cross from Vaughan. Kevin Davies put Bolton right back in it though with a goal in the 73rd minute but we defended well and Harewood coming off the bench scored his first goal for Blackpool when he got a great ball from Goodwillie and the finish was pretty simple, as we won 3-1, Goodwillie taking the MOTM award with 2 assists.

Goodwillie has reason to be annoyed after not picking up the Young Player of the Month Award though, getting third place behind N'Zonzi and Carroll who he had both played much better than, with an average match rating of 7.73 while the other two had match ratings of 7.03 and 7.47.

October Fixtures:

2.10.2010 - Stoke (A) - Premier Division
18.10.2010 - Man City (H) - Premier Division
23.10.2010 - Arsenal (H) - Premier Division
27.10.2010 - Fulham (H) - League Cup 4th Round
30.10.2010 - Everton (A) - Premier Division

And I'm currently lying 12th with 2 wins, a draw and 3 losses from 6 games. Birmingham and Tottenham are still yet to win a match.

Another decent month including a 2-2 draw with Man City before nearly pulling off the upset of the season against Arsenal up 2-1, before Djourou scored in the 88th minute but then Taylor-Fletcher had the easiest opportunity to win it in the 94th minute when he had the ball a metre out but he didn't shoot and the defenders got it out for a corner which wasn't a great one and was cleared out and that was fulltime. Cathcart also scored his first ever goal to take the lead back at 2-1.

We started off not too well with a 3-1 defeat at Stoke, with Goodwillie scoring our only goal.

We then came back home to play Man City and Arsenal, and came back from 2-0 down in 30 minutes to draw 2-2 thanks to goals from Campbell and Grandin. We then had the 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

Then the League Cup clash with Fulham. It was an absolute thriller. Sylvestre gave us the lead in the first half before they pulled back with 2 goals to go 2-1 up and just as it was looking like we were going to lose, Goodwillie with a stunning 30 yard strike gives the keeper no chance as we equalise with 2 minutes remaining. We took full control of extra time and we should have won but Campbell and Goodwillie blew about 5 great chances and it ended up going down to penalties. Charlie Adam stepped up first and converted the first penalty. Andy Johnson then kicked Fulham's first spotkick to bring scores level. DJ Campbell then got lucky as his shot hit the crossbar but deflected down into the goal. Dempsey then missed the target completely as we led 2-1. Gregoire was the next to step up and cooly slotted it in the bottom corner. Bobby Zomora stepped up and needed to convert it but smashed it straight at the keeper and now they needed to get their last 2 penalties and save our 2 penalties. Goodwillie then stepped up and took the game with him as he calmly put it past Schwarzer and we won on penalties 4-1.

There were a few upsets in the league cup as well, with Bristol City defeating Liverpool, QPR beating Man City in extra time and Newcastle downing Everton in penalties (Newcastle are last in the Premier League). We then drew Burnley for the quarter final with the other games being Newcastle v Sunderland, QPR v Man Utd and Bristol City v Tottenham.

We then headed to Goodison Park for the last match of the month but were defeated 4-2, Grandin opening the scoring after DJ Campbell missed a penalty minutes earlier, but then Pienaar and Yakubu both scored doubles to go up 4-1 before Goodwillie scored a late consolation goal so we lost 4-2. Keinan also got sent off although they missed the penalty and Hibbert got sent off for them.

Despite not winning a league match that month, it was always going to be a really tough match and draws against Man City and Arsenal are great. We are also fourth in the goals scored with 17 goals, behind Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd and we are in 17th at the moment. Next month will be somewhat easier with home matches against Sunderland, Wolves and Wigan, so I'll be hoping to win against Wigan and one of Sunderland and Wolves and maybe hope to take a point against Fulham or Aston Villa away from home.

Well I did not see that coming. Goodwillie was superb yet again with a double as well as an assist to go with 7 offsides :p

Carney came off the bench and managed to set up a goal, then kick the corner which they somehow managed to get in their own goal so it should have been 2 assists for Carney and then scored his first league goal a couple of minutes later. He's only started in one match this season.

The backline was excellent with only Danny Cold not getting a match rating of 8 or above, with only 7.3 although Ball has been terrible this season so Cold will probably keep his spot. Gilks also played his first match this season and showed he should be the #1 goalkeeper with a cleansheet, as I had to drop Kingson after getting match ratings of 5.0, 5.8 and 5.7 in his last 3 matches.

I swear FM is made by Sunderland fans. At the moment, my backline for Newcastle consists of Kadar, Dummet (a random reserve!) Campbell and R.Taylor because everyone else is injured! I've just sealed a deal for Roberto Carlos though lol for ?350K. Bargain :p

Not as much of a bargain as bagging Drogba for Blackpool in 2013 on a free! Also signed Dominique Malonga who is a goal machine. Scored 7 in as many games to start the season.

Gotta hate it when FM throws out the fixtures and you have to face 3 of the 'Big Four' in 3 straight games! :facepalm

So after our 5-0 flogging of Sunderland, we headed away to Fulham and then suffered the same fate as Sunderland, losing 5-1, Goodwillie scoring our only goal.

2 goals in the first 15 minutes against Wolves, an own goal and one from Taylor-Fletcher was enough to get us over the line, Jones bringing it back to 2-1 after 55 minutes but we held on to take a 2-1 win.

We then went down 1-0 to Aston Villa, the first game this season we have not scored a goal.

It was back home for the game against Wigan, a game we should have easily won and it wasn't as comfortable as we would have liked but Gregoire's goal meant we won 1-0.

Then the league cup quarter final against Burnley, and it went into extra time after neither team could score but a late surge from the team meant we won 3-0 with goals to Goodwillie and Adam, both coming off the bench and Harewood added the final goal to go into the semi final of the cup, and now we play Sunderland at home while QPR plays Bristol City in the other semi after they took down Man Utd 2-0.

So that ended our month on a good note before we were beaten 3-0 by Tottenham without our star player, Goodwillie who I rested for the game as we were very unlikely going to win anyway and Goodwillie was really exhausted.

And I'm sure the Young Player of the Month award is rigged. Goodwillie has come in the top 3 all 4 months, 2 times second and 2 times third but somehow cannot win it, despite the fact that he has been the highest average rating player in each month and the funny thing was that Cathcart took the latest award from our club. But yeah, Goodwillie is so tweaking awesome. 9 goals and 6 assists in 15 league matches and another 4 goals and 2 assists in 3 cup starts and 1 off the bench.
