Who do you think should get the nod for the Test series this summer?

For me its MacGill, is a world class spinner with 198 wickets from just 40 matches and whenever he gets the call up he has performed so well. He knows what it takes and can spin the ball a mile like Warney.

Hogg has been told he is a chance, but he isn't all that dominant in the 4 day game for WA and hasn't played a Test for 4 years. But he does have that wrong'un and he has been in great form.

So who would you choose?

Yeah, MacGill for me too. Having been in the shadow of Warne his excellent bowling stats have gone un noticed.
If he doesn't get the call-up he has the right to feel robbed.

I am on Hogg's side.

I think he has been in his best form, is handy with the bat. Though with him being a left hander might have something to do with it :D

Stuart MacGill. If Shane Warne had been born in a different era MacGill would have been the most prolific spinner of this generation, excluding Murali.

As much as I like Brad Hogg, and MacGill from the recent scorecards doesn't seem to have been in the best of form, I have to pick MacGill. He has more test experience.

Introducing Hogg who is 35 or 36 from memory, they may as well bring in one of the younger ones.

Hoggy for me too.

What?! Why? He hasn't impressed in the four day game for WA in past seasons, he didn't capitalize on his earlier chances. Why should his good ODI form be rewarded in the Test arena?

I agree with Hooper.
Hogg hasn't done much at all, yes he can chip in with the bat but he doesn't usually make to much more than 10-20 Lol.

To be fair, Michael Clarke got promoted to Test Cricket via his ODI form. I mean look at his first-class average compared to everyone else in the team. That's something you'd expect an Englishmen to have!

But nah, I'd choose MacGil. I've heard that Hogg's wrongun' is pickable with a Red Ball but extremely difficult with a White Ball.

But also, to be fair to Clarke, his initial selection was based on only a short career. He has rarely had a prolonged opportunity to play for NSW since then and really he could only show form in the odd couple of games or on tour.

Similarly, Hogg has little time to show his value, but in his last 2 seasons of Australian cricket he has managed 31 wickets at an average of 21. It covers the same period in which he has been most valuable in ODIs. He only played 3 matches in 06/07, but against Qld, he took 5/105 in their only innings and against NSW, he took 9/132 overall.

Still, I'd stick with the established player. To be honest, I always felt it was the other way around with MacGill and Hogg. MacGill was unfortunate not to be playing ODIs. With a list A average of about 22, his wicket-taking prowess was matched by few pacemen, let alone spinners.

Well now MacGill doesn't even play ODD cricket. So hes obviously trying to concertrate more on his 4 day cricket. Hogg can concertrate on his ODI cricket for Australia and be like a Langer except the other way around.

I honestly can not believe that anyone here is calling for Hogg to be selected in the test team.

Seriously, the guy is a 100% one day specialist. His wrong un is easier to pick with the red ball, he doesn't do enough to take wickets in the longer form and his batting his more suited to the shorter form as well. One of his best attributes is his economy rate, making him a great one day bowler.

Hogg was a fringe player for WA in the Pura Cup, until Beau Casson left WA to go to New South Wales. Even now he is not in that elite group of spinners.

At his age, (yes MacGill isn't a sprightly youngster either) he is not worth the risk, and he is just not test material. It's that simple.

If macgill is not choosen now it will be a huge mistake,i think hogg is no where near macgill and hogg is 36 ,so no way macgill should be ignored considering he is the best leg spinner in the world.
