Scorecard

As we had thrown our Pavilion Cup match, that gave the senior players a chance to rest and recuperate for the league matches ahead. A full strength lineup was named and Jesse Elloit won the toss and chose to bowl.

The pitch was one that would heavily favour the bowlers, so everyone was expecting wickets to tumble. The Iridium XI bowlers opted to first contain the runs scored and induce the Royal Bengal Tigers batsmen into a mistake. The bowlers kept things relatively tidy, never allowing large partnerships to form. Jaco Frylinck was the stand out performer, with figures of 4-0-11-2 drying the runs up at the crucial stages of the innings. Only a 33-ball 41 from Alok Kapali gave the Royal Bengal Tigers score some substance. Adam Giichrist was unable to get the ball away meaning the innings finished rather flat on 119/4.

The run chase got off to a rather shaky start with Iridium XI losing Taj Alam, Quinn Campbell and Anil Khan within the first 6 overs to be reduced to 28/3. Alester Khozo and Sam Burgess combined for a match winning 69-run partnership for the 4th wicket. Khozo had been in poor form but repaid the faith put into him by the club manager to leave him at the No. 3 spot. Khozo hit 4 fours and 2 sixes in his 39-ball 48, which would have done his confidence the world of good. Khozo's dismissal only prompted Burgess to finish the game as quickly as possible, his 29-ball 40 completing the chase for a 6 wicket win.

Scorecard

We were keen to continue our unbeaten run in our Youth league and like the weeks before, went in with an unchanged lineup. The pitch looked beautiful and prime for batting on so we were surprised when the opposing captain Graeme Ward won the toss and chose to bowl.

Jake Thompson and Robert Wildsmith gave Iridium XI the perfect start with a 111-run opening stand. Thompson played the aggressor while Wildsmith was happy to play second fiddle. It took almost until the halfway mark of the innings for The Avengers to sneak a wicket, Thompson lbw to Grimmett for 59. Wildsmith followed soon after reaching his maiden half century, out for 58. Noel Boeve and Matt Allen then took total control of the match, adding 86 in just 8.4 overs at a run rate of almost 10. Allen finished with 69 from 46 balls. Three quick wickets slowed down the charge in the death overs but a brief cameo from Victor Bovell took the score to 289/6.

IXIvTheAvengers1.png

The Avengers got off to a brisk start, with Barney Pfaff and Victor Bovell struggled to maintain any form of consistency, something on which Cornelius Pope and Fred Byfield pounced on. They were still in touch with the required run rate when the first wickets fell, Byfield caught by Viktor Pattipeilohy off the bowling of Pfaff. By the time Pope fell, the required run rate was slowly starting to mount. 114/2 became 123/4 and it seemed as though they had given up all hope of a win. But Corrine Baillache and Dean Clews gave The Avengers the slightest glimmer of hope with a superb 116-run partnership. Despite this, their scoring just wasn't quick enough and the required run rate slipped out of their control. Daniel Kelton and Pattipeilohy's economical bowling ensured that the other's expensive bowling didn't cost Iridium XI the match. The Avengers batted out their 40 overs on 247/5.

Scorecard

The second round of the Cricsim Friendly League was here and after the easy win we had last week, we couldn't have gotten a tougher opponent. We were up against tournament favourites Chewie CC, a side we have only beaten once before from 9 attempts (1 win, 7 losses, 1 tie). We were up against it. One thing we did win was the toss, and Jesse Elloit chose to bowl first.

Chewie CC got off to a less than convincing start. Justin de Zeeuw's lazy running coupled with sharp fielding from Jaco Frylinck resulted in his run out and Elloit followed that up two balls later, bowling David Gilmour for a duck to bring to score to 21/2. Boudewijn Van Buuren and Jeremy Mansfield steadied things with a 68-run partnership before Van Buuren fell four runs short of a half century. Niels van Dalen soon had Mansfield out for the same score of 46. Percy O'Keeffe and Sjef Zwaferink played out a brisk half century partnership to wrest back the advantage. O'Keeffe was dismissed for a well made 55 and Zwaferink was left to bat with the tail. However, he tail wasn't sticking around for very long with Chewie CC losing their last 5 wickets in the final 10 overs, falling to the fast bowling duo of Elloit and Christof van Zandt. They had failed to bat out their overs and finished on 251 all out.

IXIvChewieCC1.png

Geoffrey Lindsay was brought into this match due to his proficiency at handling fast bowling. But the Chewie CC bowlers had other ideas and gave him a right working over before Alex Donaghy claimed his scalp for just 6. Alester Khozo's poor form extended for another match, out to Clifford Chase for a scratchy 19. Chase then proceeded to inflict further damage on an already failing Iridium XI innings with the wickets of Anil Khan for 22 and Quinn Campbell for a 3-ball duck. Donaghy was brought back into the attack and bowled Sam Burgess for 1, leaving Iridium XI in tatters at 84/5. During all this, Taj Alam stood firm at the other end, reaching his 50. He found a sturdy ally in Niels van Dalen, who hung in grimly for a 41-ball 19. Darren Cawse's reintroduction into the attack signalled the end for Iridium XI as he tore through the tail with 4 wickets in a clinical second spell. Jaco Frylinck got a taste of his own medicine as he too was run out to be the last man dismissed. Taj Alam watched the carnage unfold throughout the innings, carrying his bat for a valiant 88 which featured 2 fours and 5 sixes.

Scorecard

After the hiding we got from Chewie CC, we were determined to come back strong in our One Day match. Our opponent wasn't any easier, as we were playing flameing moles, who currently sit at the top of the table. To beat them at home, we would need a complete team effort. Jesse Elloit won the toss and chose to bowl on a seamer friendly pitch.

That decision paid dividends almost immediately as Elloit got rid of Edward Matson second ball, caught by Sam Burgess. However, that was the only success Iridium XI had for a while as Evan Kane and Sytze van Amsterdam combined for a steadying 92-run stand. Arnell Colgan broke the partnership with a great piece of fielding, running out Kane well out of his crease. Niels van Dalen then claimed Dahnay Wa Menza for 11 and returned in his second spell to remove van Amsterdam for 66. The innings was starting to look a little shaky at 140/4.

Leonard Dawson and Steve Trotman gave flameing moles the edge with a 72-run partnership for the fifth wicket, taking the side past 200. Elloit then returned to snatch the ascendancy with three wickets in two overs. flameing moles were facing the possibility of a small total at 217/7. Trotman took this opportunity to go berserk as 54 runs were added in the final 6 overs. A wicket off the final ball brought the final score to an impressive 272/8.

IXIvflameingmoles1.png

Iridium XI got off to a sluggish start as opening bowlers Henry Garland and Jackson Baker exploited the pitch conditions well to restrict the scoring. Quinn Campbell was the first batsmen to go, out for 16. Taj Alam and Alester Khozo upped the scoring before Khozo failed yet again, falling lbw to Dave Gilmour for 18. Alam reached his 50 but was out soon after to have Iridium XI struggling slightly at 110/3.

Anil Khan join Sam Burgess at the crease for what proved to be a vital and potentially match winning partnership worth 97. Both were aggressive without being reckless and by the time Burgess was dismissed for 58, Iridium XI were well ahead of the required run rate. They would lose no further wickets as Khan and Colgan put on an unbeaten 66-run stand to claim an easy win in the end, with 29 balls to spare.
