Has anybody else heard the suggestion that the World Cup in 2015 will only be a 10 team tournament? Also future World Twenty20s will be 16 teams. Now using Twenty20 Cricket as a means to give associates opportunities and exposure.

But I do wonder if the future World Cups will only be 10 teams will it only be for the 10 Test Nations or will teams still have to qualify.

If there are just 10 teams from 2015 onwards, I think there won't be any qualification tournaments. T20 WCs might have it then.
Whatever it is, reducing the number of teams in the 50 over WC and increasing those in T20 WC is a pathetic suggestion. Won't be implemented.

I think it's very likely that a 10 team World Cup occurs in 2015. By then we'll have numerous T20 crap clouding the calendar and there won't be much time put aside for a WC - hence less teams would be preferable. And I'd say there would be some kind of qualifying system to get in. Sure, the established Test teams would probably have an advantage, but I'd be surprised if the ICC gave the other nations no chance to qualify.

Although of course it depends how next year's one goes. If it is successful and popular, then I'm sure the ICC would keep the format.

If there is a test championship or even world cup, I won't mind the reduction of teams to 10. But wouldn't it obscure the other associates? I don't think many people follow the ICC intercontinential cup/shield.

It would be a very good move keeping associate nations in mind. Watching meaningless games in world cup where associate nations get thrashed by major teams. T20 gives them the best shot to create an upset. Like Zim vs Aus in the inaugural T20 Wcup.

or Netherlands beating England, way bigger of an upset and would never happen over 100 overs.

Twenty20 is the perfect vehicle for associates, their flaws are much less exposed over 40 overs and they have a chance of hanging in there with the big boys. That is also why I think the t20 cup should be a single elimination tourney.

And like Afghanistan's results in the last World T20. they were beaten in both games but not disgraced.

It makes sense to tighten up the World Cup. Ignoring the 2007 World Cup (where Ireland and Bangladesh qualified at the expense of Pakistan and India and more often than not got dominated in the ensuing round) the only major upsets I can remember are Kenya making it all the way to the semis and Zim to the second round primarily on the backs of forfeits (and maybe one upset each).

Also, given that they've gotten rid of the Champions Trophy, it makes sense to cut the teams in the 50-over WC and instead invest in T20 as the expansion vehicle.

12 teams on 50 over WC. Because 10 is too small, and I believe Zim and Irish both deserves to play in ODI WC. And if they both do, we'd need one more team to even things out. So get ready Afg, Neth...

18-20 teams on T20 WC. Come on ICC, don't tell me you don't have 8 other Asso. teams that are good enough to compete even in T20 vs the big guns?

A team which plays good on the particular day wins the 20 over match. 50-50 requires some skill. Adding more number of teams in the T20 WC means there is bound to be an increase in the number of unexpected results.

I dont see a very bright future for the ODI World Cup if the ODI league idea is implemented. Its going to heavily devalue the World Cup where if a team doesnt win the World Cup, they can still think of being ODI champions by winning the ODI league championship.

The ODI Championship exactly the same as with the Test Championship but with... well ODIs.

Announced it when they announced the Test one.

The last I heard the ICC had given the green light for an ODI League Championship to run 2011 to 2014. Can't find a source for this at the moment but I'm pretty sure they said it was going ahead.
