7 votes are required to pass a proposed change. If you put SL and WI in the second Division, they'll vote against it. India and Zimbabwe are going to vote against it already. This is fantastic news to say the least, hope this is implemented soon. The only issue is that a 9-3 division in Tests may not be good. 7-5 would be better, with West Indies and Sri Lanka beginning the cycle in the second division, if that's what you want to call it. From there, relegations and promotions can take place.
If the ICC want this to happen, then they would need to put either SL or WI in the first division. If WI get rid of Dave Cameron, I reckon they should be in first division as they are a fighting team, coping with all the board problems. I dont think WI will vote aganist that,7 votes are required to pass a proposed change. If you put SL and WI in the second Division, they'll vote against it. Everyone will play against everyone in the space of two years. If in one cycle Team X play at home against Team Y, then in the next one Team Y will host Team X.I don't like this relegation and promotion idea unless every team get equal chances to play against each team. If ICC force each country to play one home and away series of 3 test matches in a period of 5 years, only then its fair to relegate or promote. For first season there should be top 10 teams playing against each other and after 5 years the bottom 4 should be relegated to second division along with 2 new teams and thus we'll have a total of 12 international Test playing nations. Now for second season onward the season should be reduced to 3-4 years and we can have a pretty good division system in test cricket. But again the key is to give equal opportunity to every team.
I tend to agree on this. I would want to see new Test nations playing against teams like WI and Bangladesh (not SL though) because only will the new teams get to play higher quality of cricket which will eventually help them improve their own standard of play as for the senior teams playing the new teams is concerned, they should face the brunt for not performing consistently which would be why they would be in the bottom 5.This is fantastic news to say the least, hope this is implemented soon. Yes. About time, i'd say.Does anyone know if this end the idea of nations scheduling their own matches?
I would have to agree we need to see more tests with different nations and play the smaller nations to give them more assistance to get up to speed. I feel the Ashes needs to be spread out more and other nations are played on a set frequency...? Perhaps a round robbing format over a set time period. however, the decision to place nations into divisions is going to be a problem and perhaps drop from four to five days as test cricket (someone here has said) is more aggressive, most cricket here (England) is on sky.[DOUBLEPOST=1486201197][/DOUBLEPOST]Yes. My guess is this would be a given as the frequency of matches would need to be consistent meaning every team would at least play the other teams in their respective pool/ladder.Does anyone know if this end the idea of nations scheduling their own matches?
