Ok, so finally I am caught up on the Rafiq incidence, read about Paine's statement and previous story. I fully condemn the racism that takes place but need to get some of this cancel culture in place. I mean literally everyone one of us have had a past and have made some mistake in life. While we are caught committing a mistake sometimes and other times we are giving that lucky break. Once again I am not saying mistakes do not have a consequence. Each mistake will have its own reaction. but brining up something that 10-15 years ago makes no sense whatsoever.
While I agree if Rafiq hadnt spoken up, the racist culture would have continued and would have gone unchecked but I doubt anything of concrete nature is going to take place now that Rafiq himself has had some of his past mistakes shown up. Two wrongs do not make it right and Rafiq's case now has been marred by his own actions. Again, I do not condemn racism, but its deep rooted into all of us in some or other way. It is not always about Black vs White, Muslims vs entire world, Asians vs entire world. When Asian's in subcontinent call a friend kala (black), thats racism, when someone calls Asian looklike Chinky or stereotypes them with being COVID starters, that is Racism. When someone makes fun of someones mental or physical nature, that is racism. It is everywhere and we all are culprit of it.
Like of Gary Balance, Michael Vaughn, Joe Root will have nothing done to them, I can guarantee. While I know Joe Root had nothing to do but Rafiq did mention that he was disappointed in Root when he said he has not seen Racism. Everyone's perspective is different and we will never have everyone share the same opinion and perspective.
Cancel culture is so stupid and Tim Paine's stepping down is the most fitting example. He was someone who was s*x*i*g a mature adult back in 2017. He was caught, family knew, cricket boards knew, investigation was done and he was cleared. That should be the end of the story. There is no point raising the same issue 5 years later. Him quitting captaincy was the most shittiest thing to do. He should have stayed and fought knowing he was cleared and it was consensual and his family has forgiven him.
What next? Should we humans now worry about our past mistakes more? Plan for our retirement based on our mistakes? Oh, I committed a mistake 10 years ago, let me save up money so that if it is blown up next year, I can retire? I am not saying get away with everything but people are allowed certain mistakes in the past.
