It's good to see the Proteas performing so well against arguably the best Test teams in World Cricket in such a short span of time. Elgar's leadership and Graeme Smith's selections have been just spot on!!
They haven't feared trying out new players and not necessarily compromised on their core players. The thing that stands out is their incredible passion to bounce back after failures. Some incredible batting from Rabada today and Verreynne just performed to his potential. South Africa looks to have developed a terrific batting line-up. Keegan Petersen would just add to the strength of this team!

This is unfortunately a superficial reading of the situation. The reality is that their selections have been quite conservative with clear preference being for the seasoned domestic campaigners over bright young talents without said experience. Blokes like Breetzke, van Tonder seem nowhere near the side whilst van der Dussen still seems to be a lock in the XI for some reason. Had it not been for the quotas accelerating KP's ascension through the domestic pathways (something that the quota detractors conveniently forget in every discussion around it) he wouldn't be anywhere near this side either.
I feel like it's time they ditch RvD for good from red ball cricket and play Markram as the number four for a few games like they've always wanted to just to see if it would finally get him past the mental and technical deficiencies he has. Would also like them to consistently back Mulder and Maharaj rather than continue with this strange 'Jansen at #7' experiment just because it worked versus India.
As for NZ, I seriously doubt if they're the best team in the test scene at the moment given everything going on with their side at the moment. WTC champions they might be but that was a side that peaked at the right time and while they're not yet in complete disarray to be called as a side currently in transition, they sure seem to be heading there.
