General Cricket Discussion

Not too sure about the date though, 20/20 world cup is a little less than four weeks after that. Personally I think it would be more entertaining to just get India's best 22 cricketers and play against each other.

Hi everybody! I am new here and wanted to add to the general cricket discussion as well!

So for my first post, just wanted to summarize all the major talking points from cricket this week:

So much cricket, so little time. Whall happened in cricket around the world this week?

1. Ireland Fought, Ireland Lost - Chasing a mammoth 360 against New Zealand, Ireland came so close...but could not cross the finish line. They lost by 1 run despite centuries from Stirling & Tector. They could have won the series 3-0 had it not been for Bracewell and co. Should be proud of their efforts though (although direct qualification to WC is now looking unlikely)

2. Virat Kohli and other senior players rest for the 5-match West Indies T20Is. The question on everyone's mind is about Virat Kohli's form, especially during Rohit Sharma's press conferences. Everyone from Kapil Dev to Usman Khawaja, Babar Azam, KP, Venkatesh Prasad, etc. have chipped in as well. In my opinion, India should pick Virat Kohli, BUT Not as a #3, rather as a Floater

3. South Africa Jeopardizes World Cup Qualification for yet another homegrown T20 League attempt - SA forfeits an ODI series against Australia, thereby forfeiting 30 ODI Super League Points.

4. Hampshire win the Vitality Blast BY 1 RUN despite Final Ball NO-BALL DRAMA YouTube Highlights

5. Emma Lamb and Sophia Dunkley's centuries ensure England women are 2-0 up in ODIs against South Africa at home.

6. Bangladesh Crush the West Indies 3-0 in ODIs - WATCH OUT for Bangladesh in the 2023 World Cup - Mark my words, they are true contenders! Tamim Iqbal, still in the year 2023 wins another player of the series award. He also Retires from T20Is.

7. Jasprit Bumrah and Reece Topley take 6 wickets each. Both teams crushed in the first two ODIs. But the 3rd T20I is still on my mind. How in the world did Suryakumar Yadav play that innings? The 117, with shots around the ground - Surely he has to be India's most complete 360 T20 batter?

8. Sri Lanka win against Australia in historic revolutionary circumstances via debutant spinner and double centurion Chandimal. Next goal - Pakistan Test series and will they host the Asia Cup?

9. Dinesh Karthik and Ravichandran Ashwin turn out for their TNPL teams.

10. Alastair Cook keeps on scoring tons in County Cricket, Simon Harmer keeps on taking wickets.

11. Zimbabwe and Netherlands make the 2022 T20 World Cup as Papua New Guinea and USA narrowly miss out.

Thank you all for listening!

Dunno how popular these ads were across the border(You can Google 'cadbury 5 star-ramesh and suresh'); these were a rage back in India a few years ago. Maybe Virat and Babar could be roped in by Cadbury's to reenact the same :grinning:

Yeah, it's beyond ludicrous. They're doing so, it doesn't clash with their new T20 league (is what I've read) :facepalm
FOLLOW UP: Reportedly, all six teams in their new franchise league have been scooped up by IPL ownership. They're getting backed-up by Indian money, presumably lots of it.

It remains to be seen if they'll turn a profit out of it though. If it does, I suspect we will see a lot more countries/boards following CSA.

ECB, I believe, has expressed an interest in outside funding. Basically they want to make money without any of the risk (having spalshed all their reserves on The Hundred).

Ultimately it just means more money and control will be taken away from boards.
