General Cricket Discussion

I remember a post from you sometime ago slandering Tendulkar for refusing to provide a few bats to Winston Benjamin, a former West Indies international. If he’s living such a charmed life that is secure why would he have to plead for bats every year from a cricketer in another nation?

The bats weren’t for him though, iirc he ran a camp for impoverished youths from one of the islands. These camps are costly and you cant expect a single guy, despite whatever his financial status may be to single handedly fund this camp year in year out. Its not the bats alone, accommodation, medicals, other equipment, rights etc.

I’d wager that your contemporary T20 cricketer who made his living off these leagues would be able to do that though. That’s the difference.

You’re proving my point though. Starc’s not playing these ‘fast food leagues’ because he can afford not to. CA’s contract is affordable enough for him to skip on these leagues for one and also because if he did he wouldn’t be fit enough to fulfil his contractual obligations as he is an injury prone pacer with a notorious history of dropping off in performances the longer a test series goes by.

To put it in short, Starc could have either compromised his test career and made a living as a white ball specialist who played these leagues or he could have played more tests and skipped on these leagues. He could afford the latter because he had a good contract behind him that would have been jeopardised if he risked trying to earn more money via more franchise games. Funnily enough there’s another left-arm pacer from New Zealand (a nation you hate coincidentally) that you could have picked on as the contrary.

It’s also important to note that Starc’s career took off when these leagues were not prevalent. Back then there was just two main leagues and whatever the rest of the boards were trying with their domestic sides masquerading as franchises. If he were to make the same start today as a young player (or anyone else for that matter) I imagine the choice would be not so easy.
Again I already explained this, Starc would have profited from these leagues previously. Yes admittedly the CA offers a better compensation than most boards.

If you read my reply to Talh I stated its always left to the player on the level of greed for money over the game.

Face it you lot are just hurt some guys can say no to the IPL. A

Any fast bowler playing all 3 formats in international cricket and fast food leagues wouldnt hold up for long.

Which one of them are doing it though? Do you know of any T20 cricketer fully financing a cricket academy or camp on a full time basis in a third world country? I’d really love to know cuz that is quite admirable way to give back to the game. I mean you cant wager what you think or feel over reality.

Youre aware that the first international league started circa 2008? Before that guys played cricket professionally from Aus, SA,NZ, WI, Pak, India,SL. By your logic the guys outside of Australia wouldve live an unsecured life after playing, with zero to nothing to show? Is that what you are saying?
Yes, that is exactly what i am saying. An offspinner by the name of Arshad Khan emigrated to Australia and became a taxi driver after retirement. Saqlain, Mushtaq Ahmed, Azhar Mehmood and others played county cricket and settled in England. There's other examples.

At the end of it though its all about how you manage your finances. First time I’m hearing of Arshad Khan did he play a couple international matches only? If so you cant really use him as an example. As for the guys who went on to play county cricket good on them they found a way to live while continuing to play the game they love, nothing wrong in that at all. County cricket was very competitive is it so still?

Why would I care if someone says no to the IPL let alone be hurt? There’s plenty of quality and entertainment in the league without these some guys that you refer to that makes it watchable. You’re as mistaken as CA or many of these T20 league organisers if you think it’s just having a bunch of big names that makes these leagues popular and good.

I don’t get why you keep claiming that playing in these leagues means they are greedy. Is a Tymal Mills greedy for playing in T20 leagues over county cricket because his body simply cannot handle the stress of bowling multiple overs per day? There are plenty of billionaires hoarding wealth at an alarming rate who wouldn’t even have their daily life be affected by not doing that and accusing them of greed sounds reasonable. Your average cricketer doesn’t even earn that much in comparison to other major sportspersons and the only reason why they’re able to afford to be better these days are because these leagues can offer some money. Plenty of these leagues also have various issues with regards to delayed payments and fixing that are too big to list here.

As for the last point, I’m pretty sure Darren Sammy started one. I’m not sure if it’s still going on. Unsure if India comes under the third world country category of yours too.

Read the last paragraph of your post only, apologies but there is only so much crap I can sift through and digest.

From the last paragraph though thats pretty cool if Sammy did. I’ll look it up as well but as far as I know he didnt excelled in test cricket did he? Probably was not always a first choice selection either way.

On India being a 3rd world country, honestly not sure they are technologically advanced, a nuclear power and forefront in medicine and pharmaceuticals. The problem is that there are millions and millions of poor Indians struggling without basic amenities and perhaps this is why people still deem India a 3rd world country. Going bit off topic here but I found a popular opinion while researching the said topic that India are a first world country with a 3rd world government. I’m open to more in the correct thread.

@CerealKiller I’m reading this Arshad guy was shun from selection because he had turned up for an ICL team? Is that the guy youre speaking of? Poor example.

Brother you’re spewing constant trite in these boards that add nothing meaningful to any discussion and you’re calling my post crap. Talk about people in glass houses trying to throw stones indeed. :lol

As always you resort to either ignorance or attacking someone when you can’t find yourself having a logical reply or know that you’re making shit up. Can’t expect anything else from a pathetic soul like you.

That's a great example actually. Even with ICL money, he had to emigrate. Plenty of other lesser known players did too.

Yeah he had to emigrate because he was shun by the PCB for participating in a rebel league.

Every ICL participant was given amnesty immediately afterwards. Razzaq won the World Cup in 2009. Saqlain Mushtaq and Mushtaq Ahmed served as coaches in the national setup. Inzi was chief selector. There's further examples.

No need to get personal at all brother. I’ll be a grown up and move on. Not label you pathetic or such, as you’ve done on numerous times. When youre ready to add something meaningful I’ll reply.

Fair enough but seem he had a short international career. Look I do get your point about it being difficult for players of other nations not having the luxury of neglecting the T20 style of cricket but its not impossible though. Its unfair to them yes.

Not like the bloke who hates modern cricket and doesn’t watch cricket at all these days yet posts absolute tripe here in a cricket discussion forum for attention is ever going to concede that he is indeed full of shit though. :D

Yeah we all know that your grown up style is to insult someone in a worse manner directly on their profile publicly. ;)
