General Cricket Discussion

I remember seeing another tweet or comment on the same, that one player doesn't win you the world cup. Maybe it was not on twitter

Nonetheless, he has become a major whiny baby over the last 1 year. He had some smart-ass comments to make on Dhoni's appointment as mentor as well in one of the shows.

He wants one of those mentor pay cheques for himself.

Gambhir pointed this out on twitter like a whiny baby.

It's crazy how far he has fallen off. I mean, he could have been one of our most celebrated openers but then he just lost the plot. All people are going to see is one whiny, cry baby seeking attention desperately versus one celebrated, legendary captain who never ever asked for attention. Guess who is going to win GG

I don't understand what's wrong in this. Care to elaborate?

I will try and find the post or comment I was talking about. But my comment is more of an overall view on what GG has become since the past 1 year. He has time and again come out as desperate for attention, because he feels MSD gets undue credit for the WC wins. It is quite sad, because I used to be quite a fan of him in his playing days.

He was instrumental in us winning those two World Cups under MSD. The fans have acknowledged it forever. But he has a history of being salty when MSD's iconic gets talked about. Its a visual associated with the win - doesn't mean everything else did not matter

Nice little battle there between Cricinfo and Gautam Gambhir. In the screenshot that @NILAYSHAH60 posts above, Cricinfo just said "the shot that sent India into jubilation". That tweet did not have Dhoni's name in it; just his picture with that final six hitting shot. It wasn't a tweet that gave all credit to Dhoni. It just highlighted the shot that sealed the WC win.

But GG did salty quoting it saying "its high time you hit your obsession for a SIX". Now Cricinfo hits back harder by actually specifically saying "14 years ago, MS Dhoni won his first ICC Trophy" :D

I do see Gambhir's annoyance on India's culture of celebrating leaders, power holders, etc. Yes, India is obsessed with the word 'leader'. Our mindset just does not wrap itself around the idea of "collective achievement". It sounds sensational for us that one guy achieved it. Thats why our movies celebrate the male hero like a demi god. Kapil Dev was celebrated, Ganguly was celebrated, Dhoni was celebrated, Kohli is also celebrated. Its in the DNA of our species and the toughest to rewire.

Why would he ask for attention? He already has a fanbase that gives him credit for everything that happens in cricket.

Now my question is why even give out explanations? There are people who says what not things. Is it necessary to talk about them?

And he was saying like no one talks about Yuvraj? Man Yuvi was a star back in those days!!! How badly we wanted him to make a comeback in 2012 but if he wasn't good anymore why will he get backed?

I remember back in 2011 as a 11 year old, I was like why is Dhoni even getting credit for anything? But as I grow I understand what he as a leader meant to India. Now that isn't to say that nobody was as good as him as some media houses portray him to be. But that's not Dhoni's fault or the fault of the fans who are neutral.

I would say any unbiased neutral fan knows what was Dhoni's contribution in those 2 WCs.
