General Racing Games

Bought F1 Championship Edition on PS3 and it's awesome. Ok, it may have out of date drivers, but that really doesn't bother me. Only got it yesterday and so not that great yet, but I am taken aback by the graphics and realism of it all. Need a lot of practice until I can actually compete on the hardest level and actually make sure I don't crash into other cars, but still quality just doing time trials. Fantastic game!

I never got into the whole driving properly in games thing....maybe because its a game I usually nudge and push alot :D

Races are so annoying! You follow the aid line and brake when it says and do everything right and yet you still get smashed into by other cars or visa versa. I prefer to just do practice and qualifiying then get knocked out of a race after just a few laps...

If the lines in F1CE are the same as there are in F1 06, then the braking points aren't at all accurate. By all means, use the lines as a guide, but do not take the points it tells you to brake at as accurate. You really need to practice the tracks and find your own braking points, turn in points, acceleration points etc.

Thats what I hate about AI though, they don't give a rats arse where you are or if they hit you as long as they stick to their stupid racing line.

AND I BET THEY DONT EVEN GET PENALTIES FOR IT!!!

Yeh, I have realised that as I have played over the past few days. I'm planning on getting 1 track at a time spot on and then hopefully being able to drive well round all tracks. But still, sometimes the AI cars just smash into you even if you brake and they have time to slow down. Makes it hard to have a good fun race...

Stevie,

I have been thinking of getting rFactor as it seems a quality game, and your story has really promoted it to me. I have looked on the website for a view of features and stuff but don't really understand most of what it's saying. Could you just give me a run down of what car types you can race in the game, and also what updates I would need to get for it to be as new as possible. I take it you use a steering wheel as well, so I just wanted to know what the cheapest 'good' wheels are if you know what I mean.

Cheers :)

Basically, in a nut shell, and a rather smallish one. With regards to updates, you would just need 1.255F and you'll be ready to race. When you just download the trial you'll only have a car or two to try with a track or two (can't remember), once you've paid for and unlocked it, it makes a few series and tracks available, but thats not what you'll be after.

^ Go there and have a look at the variety of cars you can drive, its alot easier than explaining it all, also there is a list of tracks there. However that only lists 'legal' mods, which havn't borrowed/stolen body shells etc. from an already existing game.

Well wheel wise, you'd be best off with a Logitech (In my opinion, mainly as they are the most reliable mainstream wheel producers)

The Formula Force EX is a good wheel for its price, just dont get it there, too expensive.

Right, cheers for that Justin. So basically there are loads of types of races that you can race in, and you just download it to get all the stuff you need? You know when it says in cars '2007 BMW Sauber F1' does that mean you can race in F1 races against F1 cars, but you can only be BMW Sauber?

Yes, thats the standard car that comes with rF. The thing is, it was developed to be mod friendly (Listen, EA and Codies) so people could add in what they wished without much difficulty, which also greatly increases shelf life of a game. On RFC are all the different cars you can use, whether you want to do a whole season, or just a race weekend. The real beauty about it is the netcode, you dont have to have a monster connection to get a good experience online, thats probably where rF is best put to use, online against other people, obviously real peopel are generally less daft and wont crash into you....generally ;)

Ahh wicked. I think that, with my birthday tomorrow, I may spend the £50 odd for a wheel and game and give it a go. Cheers for the explanations and help Justin, much appreciated :)

I've been considering a similar move, like the look of it too. However, in exams at the moment, and I'm tight - so I'll wait and see what you think before I shell out :p

Well I'm getting it from my dad as his birthday present to me, steering wheel included. Will wait 'till I get it and have a decent go, and then give you a proper review of what I think :)

Also, Justin or Stevie, this controller any good for £30? Want a quite cheap one so that my dad doesn't pay too much because he's rather skint...
