General Racing Games

Right I got to change the views thanks a bunch, the view I was after was a bit far away from the car but was ok. What do you guys think of Toca Race Driver 3?

It's an arcade game, simple as that not a simulation. It's just like the rest of the Race Driver and Gran Turismo series, dumbed down to be easy for the general public to enjoy it. I don't know if it has an online mode though.

I should also add, press 7 on the keypad to zoom out whilst in the swingman camera, and 9 on the keypad to zoom in. :)

TRD 3, hmmm. I wasted it many hours playing it. Although the AI was poor, I enjoyed it anyway!

EDIT: The keys are the other way round, I've edited accordingly. ;)

Yeah it seems very arcady just played a bit of the demo now looks ok but arcady. I guess I'll be getting rFactor once my new PC arives, is there any new racing games on the way out?

I'm suprised no one has mentioned Live for Speed, which at this moment is in 'alpha' mode. This implies its a buggy pre-beta, but it is suprisingly stable, and has a large community.

There are lots of tracks and cars to try, and you can customize it heavily to make it as arcadey or as realistic as you wish.

The trial is good, it has a baby F1 car to try out, as well as two others, one of which I can remember is a GTI. Its got a good physics engine and some excellent motion blur features.

A few, but I'll only give the more 'sim orientated'.

http://www.arcaracing.com/ ( Game to the ARCA Oval Series, cant find the game link atm)
http://www.blimeygames.com/site/main.php They are going to bring out a Ferrari game some time.

rFactor 2 could be out in a year or so, also the next in the Net-Kar series (http://www.netkar-pro.com) could be out in around the same time-frame, of these Netkar is probably the most hardcore of them all.

I've probably missed one or two, and a whole lot of the softer games like GT5 and arcade racers like NFS.

Ah yes LFS, the little mickey-mouse game :p (nah it's a sim, dunno if there could be a sequel sometime possibly S3?) .It's not that popular though on a much larger scale, it has its community but there isn't as many online servers and it isn't as diverse as rFactor. Oh its not a baby F1 car, its a Formula BMW, one of the single seater series for drivers to launch their careers in. The thing with LFS (I'm not all that clued up on the cars in it) but you only get cars as they are released from the makers of LFS, and it can't be modded like rFactor, I could be wrong here though. Another thing that I remember from LFS is that it has a lot of 'fake' cars, from the S2 trial I had there were cars like the XFR and the sorts.

LFS, is this a free game? Looks pretty good I'm downloading the demo some LFS:Alpha2 demo thingy :)

I have got the game to run it's controller system is very weird, the car revs up but doesnt go forward.

It has tabs at the top and also has a controller gamepad tab but I can't highlight it will give it another shot now.

How do you change camera views btw :)

This is just stupid how the hell does the car go forward and my controller isnt working with it, it is but its not because this car refuses to go forward!

You'll have to pay for LFS just as you have to pay fro rFactor. I remember having hell setting up my wheel on that game to the extent that I gave up and uninstalled it and chucked it away. One of its downfalls that I can remember is that the AI have to learn the track like you so you could find yourself leaving your PC on overnight letting them race to get to your level.

Yeah I got the view but its like mega zoomed in so looks really awful. One other thing with most of these demos I've played the car seems to handle itself, it breaks on its own but the most annoying part is on a straight it keeps moving to one side...

The first one is a driving aid, the braking assist. Turn the difficulty level up (say up to semi-pro from novice) and this will go away. The second thing sounds like a possible controller issue. Probably have to fiddle with the deadzone in game. I had similar issues with the 360 controller and wheel.

Don't know if it has been mentioned but if anyone is interested in trying a racing sim then check out http://www.m3-challenge.com

As for me, I own rFactor but is put away until I get a new computer and wheel.
