Haha,sorry.Messed it up.Lol. Are you sure it's Dayton? I could not find it on Dafont. When I google searched it, I found this. This looks a different font to me. Would you mind uploading it for me? Or send me a link via PM.
And, cricinfo won't watermark its images. If it does, we'll probably have to find an alternate source!

To answer your questions, yes, I do use channel manipulation in my designs, but very rarely. I usually have other ways to get the desired result. For highlighting the faces, just duplicate your render/image. Now, change the blending mode of the upper layer to screen. Fiddle around with the opacity/fill till you get the desired result. You can use a soft brush eraser over the body, if you only want to highlight the face.
