Ground Size/Conditions - Are there any noticeable differences??

It's funny how our minds work as sometimes you can convince yourself that it's a turning wicket or quicker outfield.

The difference in opinon here in this thread shows that too.

I suppose there's only one way to settle this and thats for someone from TG to put us right..

The lack of pitch differences is really disappointing. I started an Ashes series and Cardiff was a Dustbowl. I'm thinking great! Restart the series and it's a green top. Really disappointing :(.

I'm confused, haven't you just contradicted yourself there? I haven't seen differences at any given ground: the pitch always looks exactly the same at Cardiff to me. If I'd seen it dusty one match and then green another, I'd think that was a good thing...

Let me do that for you. The pitches are all the same. Still, it's funny to see what people perceive.

I've heard people say this pitch is more bouncy, that pitch is more bouncy, yet the bouncers still have very little venom on any pitch. I can't see any difference in pitch performance, or outfield performance. So, all we have is a 'normal' pitch with fairly slow outfields, which limits the game unfortunately, especially since the pitch always looks (and presumably) plays the same at any given ground. What the Cardiff pitch (for example) looks like in one series, it'll look like in the next.

As I've said before, the game has taken leaps forwards for cricket gameplay, but off the pitch and as far as variety is concerned, it's a bit of a step backwards. Having said that, I'm sure it'll be rectified in the next game, but surely having different pitch conditions spring up at you, so you have to adjust your squad is a big part of cricket, just like having changeable weather conditions (and a weather forecast), so you can decide on batting or bowling. Sure, you get something in the audio sometimes, but it's nearly always wrong! It could be a blazing hot day with clear skies and the commentator will say that the forecast is for storms later in the day. Yep. :laugh

I was hoping this would be worked on in the patch, but it must be included in the next game.

I think that the main concern was getting the core of the gameplay right, which I think they have succeeded in. Adding extra game modes, etc. is probably quite simple.

Now that the core is in place, I would expect to see extra depth, complexity and variety added.

Wow - really? :laugh :laugh

MasterBlaster76 added 0 Minutes and 28 Seconds later...

Superb post there, Tom - you've hit the nail on the head. :)

Try telling Kabooka that all pitches behave the same...

OK. Kabooka - all pitches behave the same.

Nope, I don't believe you. Try making me believe by playing 3 spinners on Cape Town vs me . 5,10 overs .... your game , your choice. If you cant do it .... Hold your silence.

BTW its Sensei Kabooka to both of you , especially you Lazy.

Cmon Lazy, Bring it !

I'm just going by what Rob said about pitch changes not just being graphical.

You see, to say that Gas is a brilliant with spinners & he using each pitch to its maximum effect is something else , but to say that all pitches are the same is another.

See, the difference between our two arguments is that yours is based upon anecdotal evidence - how you perceive the game to play - whereas mine is based on knowing about the game engine.

Believe what you like, though. As long as you enjoy the game, that's what matters.

In some ways I think we know too much about cricket and project what we expect on the game.

I posted this before somewhere, but there's a great quote from Shane Warne along the lines of:

"It doesn't matter how many different deliveries I can actually bowl, it's how many the batsmen think I can bowl which matters."
