Group B - 9th Match Netherslands v Pakistan

Broad should apply for Dutch citizenship..he really gave them the match tonight in that last over..2-3 run out chances, dropped catch which didn't really look that difficult.

It didn't look difficult?

The ball was hit hard and Broad was fully stretched, and he still couldn't pull it in. It was a lot harder then you might think it was. Broad's last over wasn't all bad, he actually did very well. It was just his fielding that let him down.

I was just checking out Cricinfo and I was having a look at all the photo's, you really have to admire the way the Dutch attacked the English. There captain said it best when he said he would rather be out for 80 trying to chase down the target, rather then getting to 130-5 or something like that. He just told his batsmen to go down swinging.

^^ just read that too. It takes a level of stubborness to say that to part-time cricketers when playing against professionals (or so they appear:spy). The Dutch were just stubborn and England couldn't crack the shell. I think Strauss is got a hell of a motivational symphony to conduct during his tenancy if England want to be any sort of competitive team in the future.

I've got a real strong feeling that Pakistan and Holland will go through in this group.

LOL. You're joking again right?

He wasn't joking... It has happened! ;) If England can't win Pakistan, then they are out!

It is just ridiculous to believe still that England will win the Ashes with such a poor fielding effort, poor team spirit and the poor captaincy! :laugh Look out for another white wash if the team chemistry is like yesterday! :p

I never found a single yorker. Why was KP not playing? He was seen alright giving some advices from boundary ropes. But Harsha rightly said, " It's too late KP, your advice will be of no use.. Fortune favors the Brave! "

Well done, dutch people. They fought bravely and like what their captain said, " We deserved to win! " and it was accepted by Colly too. ( Colly said, " No excuses, they were better than us! " ). Well done to the orange team. :cheers But lot of improvements had to made and learnt by those people though. Hope they get a right mentor to walk in a right path in future. :upray

The first time I saw Rashid bowl was in a warmup against India and he got clobbered by Sachin.Since then I`ve seen quite a lot of him in the English domestic games and he has`nt impressed me a great deal at all.

aditya123 added 3 Minutes and 25 Seconds later...

It would be interesting to know whether this has made any news at all in the Dutch media.
I suspect there might be more people talking of Netherlands` win in Mumbai`s local trains than in the Netherlands.

How has the English public reacted to this. Have they woken up to the fact that they could face a first round exit in a major competition being hosted by them ? I know pretty well that had this been India or SA as hosts and India/SA being upset in round 1, the nation would pretty much be mourning. Is such reaction reserved for football and Ashes game only in England?

Who is? Rashid? Because the relevant point is that he is not better than Napier or Swann.

Yeah I was surprised that Napier didn't play, or Dimitri for that fact. Napier's batting might be a tad overrated at times but his bowling is quite good in this format of the game.

I also found it odd that they would play Rashid knowing that there was rain around in the area, everyone knows how hard it is for a leg-spinner to bowl in bad conditions.

If you asked people here the big sporting events of this month (an article on Cricinfo says this too), most would say Wimbledon, a lot would say the Lions tour, some would say the British Grand Prix, a few would say the Derby and an extremely small number would say the World T20. The opening day of the tournament did not make the back page of the papers yesterday.

LMAO. England were owned. :D

But still I feel they'll make it to the Super 8. They have to defeat Pakistan by a big margin to enter the super 8.

Hopefully, Pakistan will also defeat Netherland by a huge margin and then we can see both quality teams in the Super 8 stage.

this is just further proof that england is nothing but flintoff and KP

they don't really need to beat pakistan by a big margin.

a last ball win for the dutch means englands net RR is practically 0.00. if pakistan beat the duth with more than a single ball to spare and england win even off the last ball by a single run their net RR will be better.

the only way england can go out if they beat pakistan is if pakistan beat the netherlands by a single run off the last ball with the score under 165 and england only beat pakistan off the last ball by a single run with the score over 165. Or the score is exactly equal to 165 in one of these games and the other forfills the criteria.

very, very unlikely england could go out on net RR. That they could go out by losing to pakistan is not a far stretch though. Pakistan are a good 20/20 team.

We have made the back pages today actually.

Because like any professional sportsman he wanted to win. If he didn't throw the ball, I'd want him out of the team and never back in it.

Since Cricket has turned in to mind games, you have to act according to situation. Also Nigel if serious attitude and enthusiasm of winning a game would have been there then Broad never had throw that ball. It would have not looked like unprofessional if Broad had not throw the ball. At the end of the day, win is all that matters.
Also personally i won't blame Colly for his team selection just because it doesn't really matter who plays, England should have won that comfortably. Still i have some issues, as someone mentioned, I also would have had Trott over key as he averages 10 more than Key who played 3 T20 games this year and scored 11 runs only. Not an issue which would have made a big difference though.
Anyway, It is a Twenty20 cricket, I don't really think it is that big of a deal.

I'd have Trott over everyone in the side. Selectors are a joke on that front.

The one Dutchman I know now seems thoroughly convinced they are the best cricket team in the world and is ready to take over American Football now.

England are not going to beat Pakistan because if a team like Netherlands can score 164 on them then Pakistan should easily beat them

I'd get Trott in as well, but it seems the selectors don't like him. I'm guessing he has personality issues tbh, as on talent and record alone, you'd think he'd be a shoe in for the OD and T20 sides, certainly ahead of Morgan and Key.
